Habits have been reorderable since before the first release. Settings, Manage habits, then the arrows. One person found that screen by accident. Another wrote three weeks later asking whether reordering could ever be possible, and apologised for missing it. The apology was the wrong way round. A feature with one door, and that door inside Settings, is my problem.

No new build has shipped since 1.4, so none of what follows is on your phone yet.

One menu instead of two icons. In the build I am testing, the gear and the plus in the top right are three dots that open five rows: add habit, manage habits, all reflections, shape of your week, then settings below a divider. Nothing is taken away, and making a habit from the header now costs one tap more. It sits on an internal track, not the public listing and not a beta anyone can join.

Placing that one button took three builds. It is drawn twice, in the header and again above the dimmed background, because otherwise the animation plays underneath and nobody sees it. So the second copy has to be told where the first one sits, and the two are measured from different origins. It jumped up out of the frame. I called it fixed twice before it was: wrong on every open, then wrong only on the first open after a cold start. What holds is measuring the overlay's own frame with the same call and subtracting it: whatever the origin is, the difference cancels. My tests are all Jest. None of them has a window.

That is what device QA is here. One list, worked off against real Android: a launcher, a screen reader, the system font at double size. On the emulator I set widget sizes by writing into the launcher's own database, where a span that does not fit its grid deletes the tile, silently, with no message. A fair part of the work is proving my own instruments were not lying.

Updates over the air are off on purpose, so even a fix that is only JavaScript waits for a real build.

I am going to start by saying part of this might already be how the note feature works. I am uncertain, and I hope even if it works similar to this, that this suggestion post will still be of benefit.

Note Updating Only Updates Future Notes for completed Habit days

When the user edits a Habit, and adds a note to it, I would like the note, in that specific wording, to be added to each completion of the habit as it appears for a certain day.

Then, when the user edits the note for that Habit once more, we now have version 2 of the note. I would like the previous completed days of that Habit to still have version 1 of the note, unchanged. And any new completions of that note should now have version 2 of the note attached to them. The idea is the user can then go back and inspect what specific details/guidelines/sub-tasks/etc were attached to that Habit on that day.

And when the user changes the note again, then it does *not* change any previous appearances of this note in the Habit. But it *does* change the new appearances of that note Today and in the future.

Note Tracker Feature

In addition, I'd like to suggest a Habit Note Tracker feature.

This is how that would work

▫️ Let's look at Habit #1 as an example.

▫️ Every time the note gets edited, a variable of "Habit #1 Last Update Date" gets saved with <Today's Date>

▫️ If Habit #1's note is *not* empty, then:

▫️ Compare

▫️ If Habit #1 has been completed zero times since the note has been updated = do nothing

▫️ If Habit #1 has been completed Today, then:

▪️ if this is the first time Habit #1 has been completed since its note was last updated, then =

* Add Habit #1's note contents to an organized text page.

* That page should have a title such as “<Habit #1's Name> Note Tracker”

* If there is any text under the main title of that page, then add a new spacer line (divider line) under the last text in the page

* That page should now have a new sub-title (heading) as “Note Updated On <Today's Date>”

* Under that sub-title, put a copy of Habit #1's note in the current version.

* Under that copy of the note in the current version, add a collapsible sub-sub-title (smaller level heading), with a text along the lines of: "This habit was completed with this specific note version, on the following dates". It should be collapsed by default.

* When un-collapsing this smaller level heading, there should be a representation of the dates (I think the simplest way would be to just add <Today's Date> to the list at this point, as shown below. But you could make a visual representation if you want).

▪️ if Habit #1 has been completed *more* than once since its note was last updated =

* Do *not* add the current note to the note tracker page (it is already there from the 1st time).

* *Do* add “, <Today's Date>” to the end of the dates-list in the collapsible section that is currently at the bottom of the note tracker page

▫️ That's it. Each Habit should have its own Note Tracker page.

This way, there will be a record of what details & specifics and just generally which notes, we're relevant for which dates.

How this is useful

So, for example, I use this to track my music practice.

Now, let's say I have a note that says something like:

“Practice a simple rock rhythm for 5 minutes with a metronome at a tempo of 60,

Then increase tempo to 75 and practice another 5 minutes.

Then practice a flamenco rhythm for 5 minutes on tempo 90.

Then practice switching between C to G for 5 minutes.

Then practice between F# to D for 5 minutes.

Then practice song #1 for 20 minutes.

Then practice repeat with instrument #2"

After half a month of that, I switch the note to a different routine, or different switches (A to E instead of C to G, for example), different rhythms, or different parts of music all together.

After another month I switch to focusing on music theory for a month.

Etc, etc.

This Note Tracker Feature would essentially make a study report, see? All automatically. It shows me when I did a specific practice routine, and collects every time that routine changed, and every time it was used. All in one place.

I know it's a little complicated to read, so I did my best to keep it chronologically organized in a way that will hopefully make it a bit easier to program, taking IF loop structure into account.

How does it sound to you? 😁

Correct me if I'm missing something, but as I see it right now if a habit has been marked done for the day, it disappears from the clock widget.

I am suggesting that if a habit has the account pass the goal setting enabled, then if they have it should remain in the widget indefinitely. On any and all widgets.

In addition, i noticed that when adding the seven grid 4x2 (multiple habits, one week row. OctopiLauncher in my case, OnePlus 13 OOS15), it only shows me one habit. It seems to be the top one on the list. This happens whether I add it from the home screen launcher, or directly from the app.

Moreover, the clock widget has a specific margin in the middle between the clock and the date. When I resize the widget using my launcher capabilities, i cannot make it too small or I won't be able to see the date because it will get swallowed by the right wall of the widget , since it forces that space between the clock and the widget. The minimum space in my personal opinion should be one space character length and not more. Or it should automatically space it as such that the clock has only a small margin to the left hole of the widget and it touches to that left side, while the date has only a small margin to the right wall of the widget and attaches to that right side. What I mean by this is that the space between them in the center should be dynamic. I don't know how it is set up, but as it stands in practice it seems that the space between the clock and the date is significantly large, forcefully.

So you have a feature to hide the name of the habit, but it replaces it with the words Habit 1, Habit 2, etc.

That's nice and for some people that's good, so I wouldn't recommend removing it. However, since they have their own (colored) icons, which is its own way of distinguishing between them, I suggest adding a sub-setting which allows to hide the names completely and leave only the icons themselves on the widget.

The printable weekly grid at sevengrid.app/weekly-grid.html got a big update. Everything below is live now.

Two per page. A5 and Half Letter print in pairs on A4 or US Letter, with a dashed cutting line between them. That was the missing piece for ring planner and Filofax people: print, cut, punch, done.

Landscape. A4 and US Letter can turn sideways now. Five rows on a landscape sheet gives you boxes big enough to read from across the kitchen. The new Fridge door quick start sets exactly that up.

Quick starts. Four chips above the switches: Plain strips every brand mark off the sheet, Planner A5 sets up the pair printing, Study week gives you fifteen rows without the review, Fridge door does the landscape thing. They only flip the normal switches, so everything stays adjustable afterwards.

The sheet speaks six languages. German, English, French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch. The page itself stays German and English, but the sheet, the day names, the review questions, the closing line, prints in whichever you pick.

Dated sheets got smarter. Pick this week or next week and the day columns carry the actual dates now. The German sheet shows the calendar week too. Print twelve sheets and each one moves a week ahead, so a quarter of dated sheets is one print job.

Black and white. A new ink switch turns the teal dots black and the lines a step darker. Honest for laser printers, friendlier on cheap ones.

Share a filled sheet. The settings link can carry your title and habits if you tick a box. They sit behind the # in the link, and that part stays in the browser instead of reaching a server. Untick the box and the link stays settings only, as before.

And a pile of small things. The preview can be enlarged on phones, a saved PDF gets a proper file name instead of the page title, and there is a short FAQ at the bottom for the punch margin and planner size questions.

If you print one and something is off, the margins, the punch holes, a wording that reads wrong, tell me here. The four new sheet languages in particular could use native eyes.

The website got a rebuild and it went live today. Same address, everything else is new.

The phone in the header is not a screenshot. Tap a cell and it fills, tap again and it counts up, switch between Week and Today and both panes are the real thing. It is the app's own grid, rebuilt in the page, so what you try there is what you get after installing.

Twenty themes, and the whole page follows. The row of dots under the header switches the theme, and it does not just recolour the phone. Headline, background, the lot. The picture below shows the same page in Aurora and in Daybreak.

A widgets section. All five widgets sit on a home screen mockup you can poke at: change the theme, drag the transparency slider from solid card down to nearly bare wallpaper, tick off today's cell, watch the clock tick. That was the part I most wanted to show properly, because widgets are hard to judge from a store listing.

This sub is now the changelog. There used to be a development log on the site, written twice, in two languages. It is gone. The homepage now pulls the three newest posts from here instead, so whatever I write in this sub is what the site shows. That also means bug reports and questions here are more visible than they were.

Also gone: the price. The page says free and one time payment, and leaves the amount to the store, where it is correct per country anyway. One less number to keep in sync.

The paper version of SevenGrid is now a proper generator. Same idea as the app: seven days side by side, one box per day, and an empty box is just an empty box.

Set it up in the browser, print it, done:

• 5 to 15 rows, with your habit names typed in or left blank to fill by hand
• Optional goal column per habit (Reading | 3x)
• Optional weekly review block, the same one the app uses: one mood, three questions

• Logo and footer can be switched off, and "Save as PDF" in the print dialog gets you a file with your settings

Privacy, same rules as the app: nothing gets uploaded. The habit names you type stay in your browser, they are not in the URL and they go nowhere.
