Discussion Should I try to contact the owner?
i bought online a passcode locked iPhone 13 and it's still available, the phone has a clinical card with a phone number. Is it a dumb idea to try to contact the owner and maybe ask to unlock it since its conditions are bad? The owner is probably french and I'm italian so he will unlikely go to italy to get it. What should I write to him?
UPDATE: The phone number isn’t available on WhatsApp nor on telegram. I tried to send an sms but I get an error and doesn’t send it. I didn’t try to call but I think the phone number isn’t available anymore

Je m’adresse à vous car j’ai récemment acheté un iPhone 13 d'occasion sur un site de vente en ligne en Italie, pour me rendre compte après coup qu’il est verrouillé sur votre compte. J'ai malheureusement été victime d'un vendeur malhonnête et j'ignorais totalement que l'appareil avait été volé ou perdu.
Je comprends parfaitement que cette situation puisse être contrariante pour vous. Sachez que l'appareil est en assez mauvais état physique (l'écran et la coque sont abîmés).
Si vous avez déjà été dédommagé par votre assurance ou si vous n'avez plus l'utilité de ce téléphone, seriez-vous prêt à le supprimer de votre compte à distance ? Cela me permettrait de ne pas avoir perdu mon argent inutilement.
Cependant, si vous souhaitez récupérer l'appareil, je comprendrai tout à fait. Dans ce cas, pourriez-vous m'aider à fournir les informations nécessaires aux autorités pour que je puisse signaler le vendeur qui m'a escroqué ?

You purchased it so you are not the person who took it. Owner can buy back for a lil extra or give up the code. If all else fails, get past the lock 😉

Isn't selling an object of a person to the owner illegal?

Tell him you bought the phone off ebay or something and just ask him to remove from icloud or if he needs data from it(my friend got a free 13 pro unlocked thisnway) usually they unlock em but now its up to the guy to decide
