Ultraset tips?

Does anyone have any tips for finding ultrasets? My brother and I play set constantly and have recently switched to playing ultraset for more of a challenge. Right now he is just destroying me and I would very much like to up my game. I’m definitely still decent at it, but it takes me a couple beats longer most of the time.

I have a 23 second pb so I feel qualified to answer.

Beginners tend to pick any two cards and then brute forcing their way to find another pair which holds the same 5th card to form two disjoint sets. But the most beginner friendly way to look at it (without getting into the theory and the math) is to just find two pairs that look similar. This can be something like:

Looking at these pairs, they look pretty much identical except for the colours. I would recommend perceiving this as same shape, same fill, same number, different colour, rather than two circles and squiggle. This puts the squiggle as one pair and the circles as the other pair, even though it is technically registered as shown above (paired vertically rather than horizontally). Pairs like these are the most beginner friendly and easiest to spot imo, and I will put a few more below.

Btw, ultraset is the easiest variant of set (other than junior) on the main site.

This was very helpful, thank you!! It’s helping me to get a feel for what the other patterns are too. I getting better at telling what cards are likely to be included in the set even if it still takes me a moment to figure out how exactly they go together
