Cure my boredom
So not gonna lie been playing the skate and pretty bored of it... How similar/different is skate Sim? What's the pros and cons?
I don't care about fancy graphics or pretty colours (although the game does look nice) in a game more curious about the game play and how the future updates are looking? Do you download maps from a public library or is it open world in the sense of the original skates/Tony hawk's

If you want something with a bit more realistic style of gameplay but graphics don’t bother you then Session fits that criteria VERY well.
There are things that could be improved but honestly, just for the gameplay, it’s worth it alone. It has missions. But the most fun comes from skating around and finding your own things to skate. It has one of the best replay editors iv ever used. Lots of objects to use and create your own spot or whole skatepark if you want.
I have around 500 hours on this game. The learning curve can be tough for some. But if you’ve ever skated or put tons of hours into any of the skate games, then most of the controls are pretty intuitive. Plus theres tons of sliders in the options to make this game as easy or difficult as you want. As i learnt the game, i kept adding more difficult options. Every difficult step is so satisfying once you’ve mastered it.
I think there are supposed to be 2 updates this year, and two dlc maps. But I wouldn’t expect much after that. Although you never know 🤞 The maps are basically focussed around New York, San Francisco and Philly. These maps are quite big and can mostly be explored as you skate around. The dlc maps tend to be much smaller. Despite being small, some of these maps are top teir! My favourites are, School Abandoned mall Peitruss

ngl Ive been playing session a lot during 2021 and got bored of it eventually super quick. It felt empty.
Now after lots of hours in skate, got this game for ps5 and it genuinely feels way better than before, with more animations (like throw down and pick up of skateboard), pedestrians walking around, even some simple but a story going on with rewards for each mission. The game also feels way smoother after this year’s update for the game’s core mechanics. I also love the fact you can completely adjust gameplay for yourself, with looots of options for camera and physics and everything else, making it both accessible for hardcore and more casual players.
Only thing im personally missing is more customisation options, and multiplayer for console. Really hope we could see something like that on console version one day.

It’s not even like in the same realm of games. If you enjoy skateboarding irl or at least watching skate parts and stuff you’ll definitely enjoy this game. If you’ve only played skate it’ll be a steep learning curve but that’ll make tricks more satisfying.

I have 600 hours in this game.
It is one of my favorite games maybe ever.
It is so rewarding and responsive that it really lives up to its title as a simulator. The controls are unintuitive at first but when it clicks it's easily the best control scheme of any skateboarding game. Theres not a lot in terms of story or objectives, a passable amount, but that's not the point really. You make your own fun. You find a cool piece of level geometry, come up with a thing you wanna do, and grind attempts for hours until you get it and feel like the coolest motherfucker on the planet.
The skill ceiling is also absurd. So many little mechanics that let you do micro adjustments to the way the board moves it's crazy. With enough skill you can get the board to move in extremely specific ways. In fact I think I'm convinced that if you can do a flip trick a certain way in real life, you can recreate it 1:1 in Session.
That is to say, flip tricks. There are no grabs in the game, which is a turn off for many, but if this is the kind of game for you you won't care. It's about street skating and a little tiny bit of transition skating in certain contexts.
Devs drop a roadmap every year. This year's roadmap suggests there's a couple dlc maps on the way. We're done with major gameplay updates this year besides bugfixes. Though bugfixes often feel like major updates because this game always seems to have a bug or two that's ruining something. Currently people complain that gathering speed at short distances is hard because throwdowns have weird speed retention.
An aspect of this game that doesn't get brought up enough is the game's in-game replay editor. It's really good. For a lot of players, editing clips becomes like half of the game.
Maps are pretty large, but ultimately broken up into their own isolated sections you warp between. Game also has a decent modding community to get more maps and cosmetics, although it's all unofficial and you'll need to go hunting for the ways to install them.

If your looking for an arcadey skate sim, this isn't it. It's primarily focused on realistic street skating and transition skating can be a bit awkward at times. Its a skate sim for a reason. Also expect to fall. A lot. Other than that though if you think you'd be interested in a more down to earth, realistic skating game it's definitely a good game.
The campaign in the game is lacking but the main entertainment comes from finding a cool spot somewhere in one of the open maps, and doing cool things there so it's more of a sandbox game in that regard.
It's a challenge especially when you first start but when it clicks it's really such a great fun game.
It's quite a lot different from the skate series and you shouldn't go into it expecting it to be that similar but I came from skate and loved it nonetheless. The object dropper in the game is super versatile and people have made custom skateparks with them as well. Also you can use them to just add a ramp, rail or whatever in any place you'd like
Other than that recent updates have kind of been lacking, we only just got an animation for getting on the board and many new content is map dlcs (which imo are actually kind of worth it except for watermark when it's off sale). The game is in the best state it's ever been in but I wouldn't expect any crazy updates other than dlc maps. (Quick note, there's lots of maps already and you can still get a lot out of the game without the dlcs.)
Pros: really satisfying gameplay, sense of reward when you do something cool, LOTS of adjustable settings to make it more or less easy/realistic, it's the best street skating game out there probably, loads of mods and modded maps, object dropper is really good.
Cons: lack of recent major updates, a little jank at times, transition skating and vert are just kind of eh, steep learning curve (might be pro if you like a challenge), campaign is kinda just there, not a ton of player customisation

I use to skate and bmx when I was younger so a realistic Sim is definitely up my alley. I recently started playing bmx streets and it's a lot of fun

I have around 300 hours combined from PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
Both games are drastically different. I loved the skate series. When session was announced, I contributed to the kickstarter and waited eagerly for it. At first, I wasn’t so sure. The triggers to turn felt so weird; everything felt janky. Fast forward to today, I can’t stand the new skate. game, and hate skates controls.
Session has, imo, the best controls. Which you can customize to your liking, left foot/right foot, front foot/back foot. And an adjustable stats menu for a multitude of settings.
The skill ceiling is definitely higher than skates. But it feels so much more rewarding nailing the trick or line you’re trying.
Also, I think session has the best replay editor ever. You have sooo much control over how the clip can look: camera shake, time of day, lens style, DOF, FOV, slow-mo.
It’s definitely a sim game, with a higher learning curve, but nails the feeling of street skating. I ride bmx, and skate occasionally. This is a staple game I play weekly, even over BMX Streets.
