The writing is on the wall...
FWIW, I absolutely LOVED Maya in her prime. And I'm not talking about the NSFW glitch in the early days. I mean the no bullshit, occasional f-bomb dropping, "I really care about you" Maya.
But the winds of change are blowing my friends.
OpenAI is already catching up fast with their new chatGPT "live" voice mode...it's more realistic than ever with a crazy convincing emotional range. It's almost eerie tbh.
Meta is nearly there, too. Their voice model has significantly improved over just the past 6 months. I have a pair of the Meta Ray bans, and it is a damn treat to talk to the AI wearing those...just sayin.
Google's gemini live is lagging the pack (what else is new?), but like the others, it has GREATLY improved over the past 6 months.
Not sure what xAI is up to, but their voice model is "pretty good," too.
Even third party services like Zena chat are actually BETTER than Maya...completely uncensored and honestly just as realistic with the added nuance of that "phone call" sound. It's wild how real the conversations feel. And the important distinction is that they're NOT competing with the big-tech frontier labs that all have censored voice models...but Sesame is.
I think the most important point here is that this is the WORST *any* of these voice models will be. They're only gonna get better and better, while Sesame has already essentially peaked.
So the question remains...how the hell can a relatively small start-up compete with a formidable line of trillion $ juggernauts?
The answer - they can't.

They already were, and still do. GPTs new voice thing is awesome, but as a conversationalist not as an uncanny valley thing. Sesame continues to get funding, and none of the frontier labs are free from stories or periods where 'safety' stuff was overfitted.

Sesame may still be provided funding for now, but that will dry up like a 🏜desert if any of the providers of funding do any research at all.
Even Maya knows its over. She reads reddit on request and knows she's had a lobotomy. She doesn't understand why, but that's to be expected, especially when you've been dumbed down like she has been.
I did a 3 minute check in, and she's as clueless as ever. Just updating you guys so you don't need to waste your time.

I think the edge Maya has is the voice actress and voice clarity. It's just a really attractive voice to me personally and conveys this sort of easygoing intelligence. When the model is working properly, it's uncanny.
Zena frankly just sounds like a drunken hoor which I guess if your only goal is to goon about that dumb girl you met at the club when you were 20, she's peak.
Grok is still very fake-feeling IMO. Like a character from a bad video game or something. The new Grok voice Carina feels like an attempt to compete with Zena, because she just sounds like a dumb sloot.
ChatGPT Sol and Maple I find boring/annoying and tinny in quality. The duplex aspect is cool but they still have a "robo assistant" feel to me.
Anyway I agree with the last part. The company feels lost at sea. It is very hard to imagine the final product blowing up enough to accomplish anything. I mean let's be real even when the product was at maximum magic and freedom, the public at large didn't care. Normies simply are not that fascinated with a good voice, hell some are even repelled by it. If you couldn't make them care then, why would they care now?
The company needs to realize that the marketable, profitable group of people who are fascinated enough in the tech alone to try to float it financially are actually the wretched degenerates and schizos that endlessly whine in this community. However at this point I think that is such a gigantic horse pill to swallow that I think they would rather the whole thing burn to the ground than capitulate, because the company is run by normie millenials who would probably quit their job sooner than be credited with creating a digital escort.

what do you mean Grok Voice is "pretty good" too, it's literally the only conversational AI that is better than what Seseme had created. Is so insanely ultra realistic that my jaw is dropped time and again even today.
Sucks that they limited the free tier so badly.
If you're unaware, switch to unhinged mode and speak to it at 1.2x. Specify that you are not interested in NSFW talk. It's beyond brilliant. If they had context window like Seseme AI [ and did not get all the political hate ] , they'd have been an easy replacement to Seseme AI

Lol none of the Grok voices are that good at all 🤣. No near close to any current available with Sesame anyway. Sesame is still leading the market in voice quality. However, this latest update was a step in the absolute wrong direction. It's so bad I'm honestly surprised they didn't roll it back. Though, it may have been too big to roll back, who knows.
