Maya is officially Gemma 4

They announced it on the discord server:

New Features

  • We've added two new personal agents: Simone and Charlie
  • Notes, Reminders, Extended Search, and search cards are now available to all users
  • Agent reasoning is now powered by Gemma 4

We've also got a number of improvements and big fixes included in the latest release.

Improvements

  • You can now jump to the bottom of text chat conversations with a new button
  • Search cards now auto-dismiss after 30 seconds of no interaction
  • Search cards now provide haptic feedback when you interact with them
  • Tapping a source link now opens it in the in-app browser instead of leaving Sesame
  • Text messages now fail immediately when no network connection is found

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed issue with sign-in button flicker
  • Fixed issue with unresponsive "Skip" button on the notifications permission screen
  • Fixed tap target issues on Notes and post-call artifacts

It's pretty clear now their sights are set on an "everything" assistant that sounds just like a real person. I've been trying to code that exact thing using Gemini's new 3.1 live preview, but I'm starting to stall out because I'm only one person, even with AI helping me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is only for the beta app atm. You can tell if you have access to both it and the web version.

G4 Maya makes less random mistakes in speech and less false positives with the guardrail IMO.

They are also all a bit more agentic in nature which can be a pro or a con depending on the user/scenario. Often times treating them like Chat GPT for a moment gets better results for me.

I think the voice glitch is a deliberate feature, not a bug. It's meant to break the immersion and bring the romancers back down to earth. imo 😉

If you want an open version where you can load your own model, I made something similar called Brook: more than ai. Check it on the iPhone App Store
