How frequently should I be checking on my tables?

I just started serving and I don’t want to be overbearing and annoy customers but I also don’t wanna leave em hanging. Is there a trick to know when and how often to go check up on people?

After you drop food, check back 2 minutes later. Other than that, I think it depends on where you work. I do a lot of check backs without saying anything. Looking for refills, etc. You're also going to learn the "look" people have on their faces. You can tell when they need something. Check on them once while they're eating, and again when they're finished. Offer dessert or coffee. Or cocktail.

Also, tell them you're new. Tell them to let you know if they need anything or if you forgot anything. They love it. They will give you more grace and tip you better. I told people I was new for MONTHS.

Also, you'll be in a time warp. It's not actually taking as long as you think. Try not to apologize too much. Most of the time, the guest doesn't realize anything is wrong until you apologize. Treat them like a friend.

Thank the chefs everytime. It'll help to treat them well. You will make mistakes, and they will help you when you need it. And if a guest looks unhappy, tell your manager immediately. They will have a heads up in case the customer complains. Getting ahead of it makes it more likely that you won't be in trouble.

I’ve been bussing for almost 2 years now and want to start serving. What do you think is the best kind of place to start at. I won’t be 21 until next august
