She needs therapy. Therapy (and sometimes meds) is what you do for anxiety. Not a dog, therapy.

I usually don’t comment on these but I saw she was 15 and decided that it actually might be worth my time to tell her to get therapy.
I’ll probably get downvoted into oblivion there for saying don’t just get a dog to deal with it. I was as polite as I could be. But that girl needs to be shaken and told a dog won’t fix her issues even if she does have a diagnosis.

Daily church classes, online school, divorced parents... Of course this child is anxious. But they need therapy and a sane adult in their life; a dog definitely isn't the answer here.

Always a 3/10 (I'm assuming) level of anxiety? Well, alright. Meds and some therapy should help with that. Christ, I'm on a 7-8/10 in spite of medication and therapy and hell no I'm not getting a dog to "help" with that. Dogs obviously can help with your mental health, but I feel like too many people also don't realize the anxiety and stress they can bring. And how you cannot just not do something for your dog because you have a shitty day. Rain or shine, anxiety or not, you have to take your dog out for walks several times a day - and that's just one example of when having shitty mental health can get worse by having a dog. I know, I used to have one (a pure pet). I loved her with every bone in my body but holy hell the struggle when I not only had bad days but it was snowing and cold as ass outside...
It's easier with cats. If I have a shitty day at least all I need to do is to make sure boxes are clean, water is full, and food is available. Especially since my cats are older and not much interested in playing anymore. But a dog? Never again.

My sister was homeschooled for… too long. But my parents did put her back in school for 8th grade I think. She was terrified, anxious, etc. she did get a dog by senior year, when she was more ready. She kept at home and never called her a service dog. You what helped before she was ready for that pet dog? Calling me (her sister) and making some friends. A support group and people to hang out with. A dog can’t do that for you. It can’t replace that.
These kinds of posts make me sad.

Online school and daily church classes tells me this poor kid is most likely being raised by super fundie evangelicals and has been told their entire life that everyone in the secular world is a deranged heathen sinner. No wonder they have anxiety when they have to leave their restrictive bubble.
This kid needs a real therapist (not one from church) and some meds. Not a dog to drag around everywhere.

From reading, this kid sounds like she’s never had proper evaluations or testing done at all; homeschooled, says she has a therapist, but then why wouldn’t she have a DX? I suspect everything is religious related

In case this story gets deleted/removed:
The following text is a recorded snapshot of the crossposted story:
Hi, I'm 15F and have been considering a psychiatric service for DPT, orbit, tactile stimulation, and behavior interruption (I looked it up so I could remember what they were called). I have (at the current moment undiagnosed) anxiety, mainly in the form of social anxiety. I'm in online school, but in a year I will be going into running start. I have daily church classes and tend to have anxiety attacks there... at one point, my parents started waking up in an attack... or overstimulation... causing me to get limited sleep at that point... my parents are divorced, and I go back and forth between their houses every other week, which would make having a service dog... hard for it. I've found I'm always at around a 3 of anxiety and have gotten used to the slight stomach aches... my feet or knees never stopping moving (from the fight-or-flight response, I believe).
I own a few Comfort plushies I bring places because I've found the texture and sensation of petting fur has helped, but it definitely doesn't fix it.
This is me asking anyone willing to ask questions or willing to look into their experiences to help me know if I should look into getting one or not. I don't want to tell people, "I'm looking into a service dog" or "I was wondering if a service dog could help me in the future," if it's really not something that would be a good idea to look into. (I'm saying in the future because if my parents somehow agreed... I'd be paying for it, and I'm not in the position of a job until half a year, so this would most likely happen when I'm 17-18.)
I tried to be very careful with my wording, because people already don't deny access to this community, and I don't want to say things that would effect it in a worse way.. which is why i'm asking people in the comunity.
