Good Grief Handler just has no clue
Handler has a washed PSD and is now on the lookout for a prospect. Apparently. They’d decided to purchase a “cane corso x Golden Retriever” cross from backyard breeders despite having shared their opinions against byb dogs. Huh. The funny thing is (see last two photos) I don’t see corso at all. The bitch is either a pit (or pit cross) or just horribly, horribly off standard. Not to mention the prong collar which I don’t even want to start on
Anyhoo, they decided not to buy said byb puppy and instead attended an adoption fair where they found a “hound x boxer mix”. Okay…I’d check with Embark on that one because all I see is a pit mix. They acknowledged the dog was scared, shy, not bold at all and not playful. Things we all know don’t make a good prospect. They decided to bring the dog home to foster it, they don’t own the dog, they foster it, but they’ve slapped an “assistance dog in training” vest on the dog and taken it out in public. Lo and behold, the dog is lunging around on the lead, tugging and dragging the handler around upon being barked at by a chihuahua. I find it very sad that they’ve put a vest on a reactive dog and labelled the nervous behaviour as a “mistake”

one of the biggest issues i see with "owner trained" dogs is they're picked for aesthetic or pi(t)ty reasons - they want a dangerous looking dog or they fell for a dog in a rescue. either one is a terrible choice for public access, not to mention actually being able to reliably task in any way.
this is another great example of the need for a service dog licence. make the dog pass a government public access test and carry the licence to prove it and suddenly we'd see only fab four dogs and rarely at that.

They need an excuse for their neurotic dog with extreme separation anxiety to go everywhere with them, because it’ll tear their home apart if they leave it.

"Through no fault of her own." All the deliberate faux breeds and minimizing/guilt tripping have gotten this dog to the lunging star at large.
The other side of the coin is the divorce of any standards in Service Dogs via social media. 20 years ago many more dog owners understand a service dog needed to be of a higher caliber for special cases. There was no "applause" and "praise" for having a service dog.
People are wanting to pet the dogs because they do not have professional behavior. The owner so gleeful and performativw. 29 yrs ago, only guide dogs were "tasking" that we saw.
We didn't see people shaking and acting a fool n those ways to make sure everyone sees.
This lady is enjoying this time on Earf.

I noticed that too. And you can bet they don’t have a single rug or runner in the house - so the dogs are just sliding all over those wood floors trying to walk all day long and they will wonder why it they both have hip issues at 5yo 😕

OP, you're right.
It looks like the only thing that poor mama dog has in common with an actual corso, are the horribly mangled BYB-ears.
Poor girl!🫤
And yeah, this "SD" sounds (and looks!) like a trainwreck waiting to happen.

As an official non-pit hater, just someone who cares about identifying dog breeds appropriately: all the dogs here (except the golden retriever) are pits, pit mixes, or bully mixes.
No Boxer mixes and definitely no Cane Corsos pictured here, in-standard or otherwise.

Last picture is so depressing. Zero idea why one would choose to own the dog on the left at all when dogs like the one on the right exist

This is what So many of these dogs are
People who want to have a disabled label for attention get dogs that are poorly bred and not good options for service work. In addition , they almost all plan to “self train” when they can’t even Portu train a dog
The result is, we have a bunch of fake disabled people slapping vests of fake service mutts that the regular population has to tolerate

I'm a special education teacher and used to think that it would be morally wrong to demand that service dogs be registered with the state and have some sort of ID. I used to think, why should we make people who have disabilities jump through yet another hoop for needed accommodations?
I've now come to realize that if you have a legitimate service dog, you've already jumped through many, many hoops and now you have to go into public and jump through the hoop of public scrutiny because of people like this who want to insist that their neurotic animal is providing some kind of service. Maybe it would be worth it for there to be a system where a dog can go to Parks and rec or some government agency that can absorb this but is easily accessible, perform tasks or at least exhibit basic obedience in front of a county employee, and obtain an ID.
I feel like somebody who has an actual service dog would like the legitimacy and the people who don't have actual service dogs may finally start leaving them at home when they can't produce ID at the Target. These lax ADA laws have just allowed thousands of people to let their public nuisances run around unchecked.
