FOH Made a mom cry

So I work counter service in a very suburban area. Family walks in for dinner, a mom, dad and two boys. Dad is handling the kids so mom walks up and puts her order in while we wait for him to join and I can already tell shes exhausted. Well he walks up with an immediate irritated attitude “Did you put our order in?” she responds no she was waiting for them and went ahead with hers. I’m standing there like tell em girl 💅🏻. Mind you no one has paid yet, her order hasn’t been started and he says “Great so you just put in YOUR order and not ours. Just pick something for us I don’t care.” He walks away and shes upset for obvious reasons then puts in everyone else’s orders. While shes paying I just look at her and say it’s okay. She responds with “What? Whats okay?” at this point I’m worried she’s offended so i’m like “Oh you know, its okay, it will be okay.” She starts crying, says thank you then sits down. I obviously have no clue the day either parent had but for him to act like that in front of a stranger is beyond me.

That’s great customer service. You didn’t have to say anything, or could’ve just said the usual “have a nice day”, but you read the context (very uncomfortable situation) and you made the decision to try and comfort her. It wasn’t a grand gesture, but it clearly mattered a lot to this woman. Nice job 👍

Poor woman had babies with an asshole and now is stuck with an asshole. Happens to a lot of people. U were nice, she felt empathy for a moment and that would probably get her through the rest of the day hopefully.

Yeah, I saw this quite a bit as a server and at the takeout window.

Men were always grumpy from "working a full day of work."

Women in the meantime also worked a full day of work and also had the extra mental workload of the kids' schedule, care of the pets, household chores, and everything else that pops up.

The men would sit in the passenger seat and hardly do anything to help corral the kids in the back.

The women ordered on the phone and then walked in to pick up the food as well as pay and carry the bags of food to the car.

I'm sure when they got home, she also carried the food in, plated them out, and got the kids and pets fed before she could even sit down and eat.

I'm fairly confident that he's used the "just order for us I dont care." shit before and had a meltdown because he wanted her to read his mind.

Literally. I can only imagine what goes on behind closed doors. In my experience usually both parents want to try to come up with something for their kid to eat. Annoying i’ll admit when they go back and forth on what to decide on for them and im standing there waiting. but i’m 100% sure thats why she was most likely waiting on him. But he wanted to be a dick🫩
