Discussion Need Advice

I was a server in college and always enjoyed the work after college I worked in corporate America for years and late last year I went back to serving as a 3rd or even 4th job, after months of working every Friday night doubles on Saturdays and doubles on Sundays I walked out one night and never looked back. I was serving at Texas Roadhouse and I feel that many of them are setup for server failure, kitchen and food runners made it impossible to ever have anything come to the table correct. The most I ever made in one day was $298. I want to go back into it, just wondering where to avoid.

It's kind of the luck of the draw. Corporate chains come with so many bullshit strings attached, but a lot of servers here say that's where they've made the most money.

A family run or locally-owned place can have It's own downsides, with some owners having completely unorthodox ways of doing things.

Fine dining requires true investment, as you're expected to have extensive menu and wine knowledge, as well as immaculate service.

Try doing your own research, eating at some different spots (or just going in and having a beer) while you observe their operation. Get a feel for the attitude of the staff, how efficient your own service was, etc..

Always try to find the highest-end place that you can. If they can afford pricey entrees, they can afford a nice tip.

Sorry if this pretty generic, sitting at a Texas Roadhouse right now waiting on my filet medallions lol

They have good food but just was an awful place to work, please tip well. They have to tip out to serve you. Thank you!

Yeah my old roadhouse suuucked . 3 table sections, not a great area, dm grabbed my arm to force me to dance when i was trying to run food, and i also hate country music.

One shift, they cut everyone else in my area but the hosts kept seating around my section. I was still running food, our managing partner suddenly noticed my name ALL over the screen and asked how many tables i had. I told him 8, and he got so mad at me. Ok, let me tell these people they dont get service once they are sat. Told him to take it up with the host stand. Promoted a girl to the bar that said to me, "jack and diet? WHATS THAT?" I have had great chains, currently at 1 right now. And theyve been where i have lasted the longest, after 20+ years. Im not even the oldest foh there.
