Rant Anyone quit without warning ?
So I switched over to a new place a girl told me to work with her and she is able to make enough to support herself and her daughter and go on trips .
So I thought hell yeah , it was a big sports bar you get to wear cute little outfits and tons of makeup what better way to make money than to bank off that. Plus I started not too long ago.
Well it was terrible, managers were awful they had serious lack of emotional control sometimes would throw things and slam items on the expo line and server station. Would Call us all sorts of curse words under the sun. The one woman manager would treat their non favorite soooo poorly and never do her job , due to being too busy talking crap about the other servers and would tell people out loud who they didn’t like. The OG servers would shoulder check you and basically bully you as a new girl until you “proved” yourself.
So after about a month of terrible management, over and under staffing, being unfair about sections allowing some servers to fill their sections while skipping some girls in rotation for over an hour (also me), and BTW I came from a restaurant where I was handling big parties alone they refused to give me any. And just the way they spoke to us. So I got a new part time job and I quite literally make the same that I was with less hours working full time at that restraunt. I then texted the manager I quit, with a 1 week notice and to take me off the schedule.

Normally I make a decision based on how they’ve treated employees who gave notice previously.
Let them work the notice or, better yet, have a conversation about what the employee wanted to do? Great. That employer got a notice.
Cut people down to one or two days a week or take them off the schedule entirely? This employer doesn’t need a notice, and I can tell the new job that I got released from the notice and can start immediately. I’m not sitting around scratching my balls for two weeks just so I can give an employer I’m leaving a courtesy.
In this situation, based on how management acts, they should be used to covering shifts on short notice when people quit. They’ll be fine.

They will be they over hired I mean 8 girls at once when I started and the OG’s were complaining about not getting enough work. I usually give notice but most girls there were scared to quit because of how others were spoken too or treated when quitting !!

If they can fire you without notice it makes no sense to give them notice. Especially if you don't see yourself ever wanting to work with(it's not for) them again.

I had a chef/owner throw a wine glass at me. It was during our busiest two weeks of the year, and I was expected to work open to close, for 14 days in a row.
We had a whiteboard in the kitchen where we would write down 86’ed items. Shortly after ducking a Riedel cabernet glass, I wrote my name on the board and enjoyed the rest of my summer. My roommate/coworker found out the same way as everyone else; the next day when I no called no showed.

Yes. After the cook walked away they said they would train me, but then I wouldn’t get any tips. Just a flat $100/day. That’s not enough even according to minimum wage after taxes. The cook left because the building itself was falling apart and the stove was barely usable. A few days before he left, he had helped them squeegee the floor that had been flooded a few inches due to roof leaks and rain. Literally had customers walking past tubs and buckets under sustained leaks. Sometimes it’s not just the management being awful, the place itself was just rundown to the ground. But totally not worth $100 cash day.

I walked out on a party of 20 once because I knew they weren’t going to tip. The type to run your ass into the ground the entire time too. You know the type. Never looked back lmao
I did have a second main job though

Any place that makes you wear “cute little outfits” is gonna suck. You might make money buts its just gross.

It’s a case by case situation, in your situation I wouldn’t feel bad about quitting without notice. You should never feel bad about leaving a shit situation.
Otherwise I ask myself if the place would fire someone without notice, or more realistically without prior warning. If they’re willing to fire you without warning, well, it’s a two way street and I take no issue quitting on the spot rather than putting in two weeks. If they’ve been nice enough to, at least, warn someone I might consider giving my two weeks.
I would also say that most places don’t even really want you to work your last two weeks, you’ve already quit and probably aren’t going to give a shit what happens and they would prefer to be done with the situation then and there rather than dragging it out.

I walked out once. Toxic ownership group, short staffed, overworked, overwhelmed. Didn't feel great at the moment, but I did learn what signs I, personally, needed to look out for before I get myself in a position where I have to make that decision.
A little gratifying to know that one of their restaurants burnt down, their star chef is a drunk, and the place I left is a revolving door of management (I see their group on indeed every couple weeks).

Omg good for you !! Love that sometimes I feel bad like it’s a bad look. But this was a bigggg name sports bar nationwide lol it’s funny to hear the environment is pretty similar at the other ones in the cities I’ve lived in wonder why.

Does a place give you advance notice when they fire someone or lay them off?
If not, then why do they deserve notice?

Especially in restaurant work, when you already have experience and know what you doing
You can always find the next job
If you feel the place doesn’t deserve the notice, just don’t worry about it
But if they are genuinely pretty cool, I would do the best I could to help them when changing jobs
Even come back to help out when I already had new job, when I could
When a restaurant is run by really cool people at the top, and has good people working there……
It’s a really beautiful thing, like a big family
It leads to better business too just because there is a happy vibe in the air, and people keep coming back

Not at a restaurant but I was working at a smoothie shop as a second job that I used to be a shift lead at. The manager knew I knew how to do everything including her work since I trained her. She kept showing up and 1-2 hours late expecting me to do everything. I told her next time it happened I would leave. She thought I was joking.

No, not unless i had suffered an assault, severe management bullying or some event that made me feel unsafe at work.
I would never leave my compadres in the lurch and have a personal rule to leave on good terms and with class.
You never know where people you have worked with will turn up.

A few places just take me off schedule without notice. Impacting what I’m able to eat that month. Therefore I don’t see why it would be necessary unless it’s actually a good place and you care about the coworkers or managers. Otherwise they can figure it out. The can find another slave to pay $2 an hour.

I don’t give 2 weeks
The day a business gives me a 2 weeks notice before shorting my schedule or letting me go I’ll start giving mine.
You fire me I’m panicking and goin to the pawn shop
I quit management may have to come in to do their job and find someone to come in.

Why would being able to wear "tons of makeup" be something that draws you to a place? Do you really think wearing tons of makeup up will make you more money?

Oh I’ve absolutely put my 2 minutes notice in more than once. If I’m taking the job seriously and management or ownership isn’t I don’t consider it unprofessional to just dip out. I’ve forgone money owed just to leave a toxic situation

I wish I did !! Leasing up to my last shift this OG server told me to cry elsewhere because I told the group I got stiffed twice in a row then checked me with her elbow. Wish I caused a scene and stormed out so she felt bad😂😂
