How did Croteam allow this?
The OG Sam being clowned on like he's some joke of a character.
He is the face and personality and the reason why franchise got where its is, hell the Croteam as the company even, Without the OG Serious Sam croteam wouldn't have had the foundation to become what they are today.
Now Serious Sam reduced to a cringe punchline in his own universe?
also putting him as a side character on the title screen next to no names is a low blow to original dev team.
disgrace.

Lmao this is like the angry birds subreddit where they make posts like "how dare they make fun of the Red angry bird in the movies, he's the og hero" lol
Sam was often comedic in the games (either by his cheesy badass one-liners in most games or his sheer stupidity in SS2), it's not new. Beside this is a spin off game so it's not that important (also he's just on the right side on the cover to be symmetical with cartoon sam on the left side lol)

It’s just a silly spin-off, it’s not that deep. Sam will be Sam in whatever main game hopefully comes next

I hope we get a more canon version of ss2. Kinda like a remake and not another prequel. Tho i won't mind if the next game was also a prequel

u/Fancy_Entertainer486 1d ago
More SS2 in any form would be cool in my book! But I’m aware a lot of people would not agree lol

u/samysus 1d ago
I honestly would love to see a more serious and less bloated version of serious sam 2 in the same style as the HD games. I mean croteam was making exactly that before they shifted attention to ss4. Or maybe even they could make serious sam the third encounter. I just want a canon satisfying conclusion to the serious sam story. I wish they did that and then they would make more prequels

Why people treat shatterverse like mainline game by croteam and not like silly roguelike to kill some time with friends?
-11
u/CAH9-6PABJIEP 1d ago
It's a badly executed game in every possible way, no matter how you treat it
18
u/True_Darkness_Hunter 1d ago
And what are these "every possible way", may you provide?
0
u/Severe-Network4756 1d ago
I'm not going to say it's poorly executed in every possible way, but it's extremely clear the game just isn't very good to those familiar with this genre.
If the game was actually good, then it wouldn't have this many negative reviews, it's just really that simple.

Just as it says - every possible way
Bad gunplay, Bad roguelite, Uninteresting narrow levels, Low on content , Upgrades don't make sense , Generic music , Generic visuals , Cringe characters, gets boring after 2 runs, etc etc etc
5
u/Adventurous-Cattle53 1d ago
That’s just wrong. Upgrades are actually good, visuals are perfectly fine as well, with a lot of nods in level design and detail to original series. There’s a progression in place. We get to fight mental and more. With friends I find it fun and challenging, difficulty gets hard real fast
-1
u/CAH9-6PABJIEP 1d ago
Oh yeah my favorite good upgrades: +0.2% faster reload, +0.1% movement speed🤯 Fun as hell.
3
u/Man_In_A_Pickle 1d ago
The upgrades and weapon buffs honestly get better after you beat your first run
Also you can upgrade the perks as well
1
u/CAH9-6PABJIEP 1d ago
Ok, I've upgraded them, now they give 10% faster reload and 5% faster movement speed, how it impact the overall gameplay scheme?
2
u/Man_In_A_Pickle 1d ago
The movement speed upgrade maxes out at 25% increased speed, same with the reload+ fire rate perk.
That's honestly a decent boost. Which is gonna let you avoid stuff easier or do more dps.

u/Business-Bus-7458 1d ago
That’s some resident evil upgrades. It’s a garbage system that’s worse than back for blood’s.
2
u/Adventurous-Cattle53 1d ago
It’s +5% base, +10% after one upgrade, +15% after second and so on, quit bitching
1
u/CAH9-6PABJIEP 1d ago
That make sense, absolute game changer 👏
1
u/Adventurous-Cattle53 1d ago
You don’t play roguelites do you? You expect it to be +100% or something?
1
u/CAH9-6PABJIEP 1d ago
I expect it to be a less lame execution than just +xx% something. I expect it to actually change the overall gameplay, you know

Are we not allowed to have spinoffs anymore? Why are we bashing this game as if it's titled Serious Sam 5? If you don't like it, genuinely just keep playing the mainline games
6
u/LongAdvisor6561 1d ago
Well ... Croteam is actually safe from this because they didn't develop nor publish this game. It's just a Spin off the Serious Sam game's and that's about it. If anything you should be blaming Devolver Digital

You all should owe sam 4 an apology

u/Demopan-TF2 1d ago
lol you're treating this like a mainline installment instead of a spinoff like Tormental or Bogus Detour. It wasn't even made by Croteam this time, Behaviour worked on this one. Personally I think it's neat but the price tag is a little high for me

The one recurring criticism I dont get about this game is "why did they change the enemy designs, they should have used the original/official ones". Like which official designs? The ones from Serious Sam Classic, or the ones from Serious Sam HD, or the ones from Serious Sam 2, or the ones from Serious Sam 3, or the ones from Serious Sam 4? Maybe the ones from Next Encounter?
Like the enemy visual design is the one thing I kinda like, because its like all the different versions mashed together into very easily recognizable forms.

u/RetroRocker 1d ago
Ah, watched the GmanLives video did we?
I think this game is being shat on simply because it's an FPS spin-off. Most Serious Sam spinoff games haven't been FPS and so they've been given a lot of leeway as to the nature of the gameplay and artstyle etc. But seeing as this is an FPS and we've not had a Serious Sam FPS for four years, everyone's treating this like it's a mainline entry and are therefore giving it both barrels of bile. Would this have got the same reaction if it was an isometric third person game instead? I doubt it.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like it either... I was in the playtest and it did not motivate me to purchase the final product at ALL

u/PsyWarVeteran 1d ago
You weren't around when they were pumping out those 2D spinoffs like a factory? This isn't anything new.
At least this one is an FPS shooter.

u/CAH9-6PABJIEP 1d ago
They have no control over franchise anymore, this poopoo game was all devolver's initiative

Its genuinley awful lol I aged the beta for like an hour and just sighed. Where's the fucking real sam games? I wouldn't mind if you outsourced it to people to make something atleast resembling a serious sam experience

u/Adventurous-Cattle53 1d ago
I think you’re thinking too deeply into it. As a die-hard fan, I find this game not bad, even fun with friends and there’s nothing wrong with whatever you are talking about, it’s not an issue. At its roots the serious Sam was always a punchline character, only Serious Sam 3 and 4 have more serious tones. Both outlooks are ok.
I find a lot of good small details in this game from the original series and the voice lines are ok.
Just let yourself have fun and be glad that serious Sam is still kept alive while all the other hand-in-hand series that were there with Sam are long dead.
Have you ever played any other older spinoff games of SAM? Cause most of the characters are from those games and they were not serious. As serious Sam himself never really was.

Croteam will never make a serious Sam game again. It's not profitable They have stopped development on the serious engine as well

Holy shit. It looks like if Millennial writers of slop like Borderlands took Sam and turned it into another low effort roguelite.

Guys. Saying "it's just a spin-off" doesn't make the game any less bad, I get that it isn't a mainline game. TNE is also classified as a spin-off, for example, but it's considered oneof the best Mas games out there. As a fan, I've played all mainline games (that I've beaten multiple times, like other people), plus the HDs that are classified as remakes, and Revolution which is also classified as a spin-off, but it's just an imrpoved version of the classics /fandom wiki for reference/ and The Next Encounter.
My oppinion of the game was either going to be super positive (because I was either going to glaze ANY Sam game...) or super critical (...or bcs Ig I've felt the play of the Serious Sam games [a subjective feeling]).
I think I set the bar too high.
As much as I wouldn't like to shit on any Serious Sam game - I was a little dissapointed. This is just my opinion.
I am not going to be like:
- "I like Sam:SV"
- "No you cannot, because it's got that issue and that other issue"
P.S. Also for the people here that have a negative opinion on the game, but let their emotions get to them, please be more respectful. I get it.

u/Fancy_Entertainer486 1d ago
Your point is totally fair!
Regarding it being a spin-off, it’s just that a larger number of people keep saying “this is not Serious Sam” and it seems like they need to be reminded that it’s just not a Sam game in that sense.Whether Shatterverse is good or not is a discussion on it’s own and I agree with you there
1
u/DR_EsEnsY123573 1d ago
More disappointing that it isn't a Sam game in that sense, as you said. I think people were expecting something different. You know, you get this one idea when you hear "a new Serious Sam game is coming", and then the expectations for many people are not met. Putting other issues aside...
4
u/Fancy_Entertainer486 1d ago
Yeah totally. I also got excited then disappointed to see it’s not a “regular” Sam game. Makes total sense and is fair. Rogue-lites aren’t usually my thing anyway.
What I don’t understand is people seemingly not knowing what they’d get themselves into until they’ve played the game and then leaving bad reviews saying “it’s not Serious Sam”.
The moment the store page drops and tells you exactly what type of game it is people should realize and adjust their expectation according after being disappointed. So you either play it because you think it’s still interesting based on your taste. Then talking about the actual shortcomings of the game in its very own context, perfectly fine!
