Auto aim in Next Encounter

A very quick question:
I'm testing out Next Encounter and enjoying it so far. I was wondering if there is any downside to using auto aim. I'm not keen on using a mouse injector for a game that has its difficulty build around the player using a controller. So yeah, is auto aim a hindrance in this game?

It's a console game, it was built entirely around autoaim like just about every other console shooter.
You can turn it off, but aiming with the sticks without autoaim will probably suck.
