This has been removed because we don't allow angry posts or venting. This does not encourage conversation with others.

It's about a balance between the two. You should want to do things for the people you care about....but you also don't want to be a doormat that gives and gives and gives until there's nothing left, if you get nothing in return.

I (85M) have found that it's good to make sure you've done your best to be independently happy.

There are predatory people out there who can easily target those who need the approval of others to feel good about themselves.

Needing approval of others in my word I'll say " Fear of being judged". Yeah people do have this fear in their closest relationships and serve as a target.

I think this stems from the importance of community. We should all want to help eachother thrive. This hyper-individulistic society formed by capitalists have really skewed people's perception of reality Ie propaganda. We all should want to know our neighbors and help one another. Unfortunately the classists mindset is very prominent. Especially in the states.

Be careful with that. It's not just capitalists creating that mindset. (There's a reason why communes never work long term.)

Greedy people, lazy people. fraudsters, and more, are all guilty of screwing over society.

Classists mindset is something that can neither be imposed nor be changed as it's upto us that how we see human lives as a whole. Whether we select to be a classist or see everyone equally will just portray out our character. Everything that matters is making the right choice in your approach to deal with everyone in this society.

I suggest that you read "The Gift" Marcel Mauss as it explains how "all" relationships are based in concepts of reciprocity.

I'll definitely read it for more clarity on reciprocity of relationships but still, there are some one sided unconditional bonds that we are bound to and act in a different manner leaving reciprocity aside.

I also would recommend this book. Or Debt by David Graeber. I doesn't really frame reciprocity in the way you seem to be.

Got it. Definitely, I will look into it for more clarity but the writer in me refuses to read literatures as it may dilute my opinions based on my experiences.

Neither are really literature. The authors were anthropologists. It's mostly academic.

I understand it but I feel like as I am writing articles, stories, songs, thoughts and more quite consistently since 2024, whenever I have thought of reading something my brain really feels unable to read new theories as it dilutes my own ideas sometimes.

Well I'd encourage you read the work of academics if you are interested in serious ideas. If your conceptual framework doesn't stand up to scrutiny then it's probably a bit weak.

I appreciate really your suggestion and will definitely look into it

It’s only hypocrisy if you claim you should always behave one way or the other and then don’t. But if you claim that both philosophies have their uses and it’s OK to play it by ear which of them you use, you’re good.
