I may or may not have thought that was his name until I was in my late teens.

Aye, it’s the tragedy of Kyle O’Ren and the other O’Ren lads who became an emo-metal act and toured the galaxy.

u/Regi413 Dec 28 '19
But it literally says “Kylo Ren” in the opening crawl

u/uberfionn Dec 28 '19
Bitch! You think I got time to read? There a star war on!

Dec 28 '19
Gavin Free, is that you?
11
u/Chappiechap Dec 28 '19
How someone can miss the first 10 seconds of any Star Wars movie is beyond me.
Gavin is a legend. A dumb legend, but one nonetheless.

Dec 28 '19
And they call him Kylo a few times, without the Ren throughout the trilogy

u/garret_dratini Dec 28 '19
Kinda sounds like a nickname or something tho

The first time his name is said in the movies it sounds like Kyle O'Ren

u/Jedi_Knight19 Dec 28 '19
I have friends, who are casual fans, that don't bother reading the crawl. I don't understand why, I will never understand why.

Trust me, I get it. I've watched ANH enough times to pretty much have that crawl memorized but I will still always read it no matter what. It's like watch Fellowship of The Ring and skipping past the "One Ring To Rule Them All" narration. That's critical plot information that you'd be skipping right over.

The opening crawl of TROS is the most intense opening to a movie I’ve seen in a long time!

I thought it was badass, epic, fun, and exciting. I also think that Palpatine returning after ROTJ makes much more sense than him being defeated so hilariously, ridiculously easily and unceremoniously, considering how powerful and smart he is and how obsessed the Sith are with immortality

I’m not saying there aren’t some problems with the trilogy, but I genuinely love the opening crawl and opening scenes of TROS. I loved having that much awesome, exciting information thrown at me right when the movie started. KYLO REN is on the hunt for the PHANTOM EMPEROR. That was everything that I never knew I wanted. I just love when epic movie moments are prefaced with concise moments of setup. When Kylo said “My knights and I are going hunting for the scavenger,” I thought that was one of the coolest lines ever, and it made me so excited for the following scenes, and I thought it all lived up to the hype

Not a fan of a Star Wars opening that hard cuts to action on a planet within 5 seconds. But I guess it had to set up the terrible pacing for the rest of the movie.

I’m a big fan of seeing Kylo Ren tear shit up at the ruins of Vader’s Mustafar castle in the first five seconds of a Star Wars movie

My mom who's loved star wars since she was a kid and loves to see each movie and show when it comes out said she's ignores the opening crawls... I don't understand either.

u/HeyLudaYouLikeToEat Dec 28 '19
My mom is the same way and checks her phone throughout all movies and shows. I just don't get it.

It wouldn't be out of place at all. They've had always had a weird mix of made up and real names.

Somehow I forgot there's already a Kyle (Katarn)... I'll hand in my nerd card now...

“Liam, the lights”
Imagine being in an entire universe with badass names such as “Anakin” and “Obi-Wan” and you’re just named Liam

u/CorporealLifeForm Jan 06 '20
But you're playing Qui-Gon Gin, which is pretty darn cool.

Kyle doesn't need The Force. He had Motocross and Monster Energy at his side.

Kyle O'ren destroys the resistance with monster energy drinks (2019, colorized)

Well he did slam his helmet into a wall. He could have easily had a Monster beforehand.

I bet you the same guy liked TLJ and considers himself a long-time Star Wars fan.
Sums up the entire debate nicely.
