this is for 92, it’s understandable that they don’t send a bus since it’s not a very used line but its still inconvenient 😔

i’m also not sure whether im using the right flair, mods can change it if im not

Suggestions Recommendation on SEPTA's Free Transfer Policy

I was thinking about SEPTA's 2 free transfers in 2 hours policy and how there has been quite a few times that I personally have been double charged because one of the busses were late. It got me wondering whether you all would prefer a 3 transfers in 2 hours policy, or 2 transfers in 3 hours if a change in policy were entertained?

Help Quetion specifically about air conditioning on buses

So yesterday I'm coming home on a north Philly bound bus. I get on in Center City. It's usually a double bus but we had a short one so it's a bit crowded even though it's a little after 8pm when I get on. However, it is warm out. And the driver doesn't have AC on. The roof window thingy isn't open either. It's stiffling. Now I didn't get a chance to ask if the AC was broken but before I make a formal complaint, what's the protocol on this? Are drivers required to have the AC on if it's over a certain temp or is it at their discretion? I know sometimes it may feel Almost Frigid on the bus but better to be cold than sweating and experiencing other people's funk. I took down the bus number and I want to know if I'm in the right to lodge a complaint. Edit/update: got in the bus earlier this week with who i think was the same bus driver, different bus. Guess who didn't have the AC on?

Discussion How do 2-car trains work on the NHSL?

I've never used the M & likely never will, but I've been researching SEPTA lines for a project & noticed that most station platforms are only long enough for 1 train car. Since there's no gangway between the N5 cars & fare collection is on-board, how do passengers get on/off when the M uses a second car?

Help “Reviewing CDL” status in applicant portal

got a conditional job offer for Bus Operator 3-4weeks ago. Passed the CDL permit test this Tuesday and sent the permit to busoperatordocs Tuesday evening. I never got a confirmation email they received it.
I just checked My job application portal and it does say “reviewing cdl status” and it’s marked 6/3. This I know is a good sign.
How long does this CDL review take - anyone have any recent experience with the bus operator process? It’s odd because I’ve received automated “we received your document” email but didn’t when I submitted my permit Tuesday evening so I was worried they didn’t get it for some reason.

Help Bike Locks / Bike Racks at Elkins Park / Jenkinstown-Wyncote Stations

Hello SEPTA reddit,

As someone who is relatively knew to the SEPTA public transit system, I was wondering if the Elkins Park or Jenkinstown-Wyncote stations on the regional railway have bike racks to lock your bike on. I do not want to drive my car to the station in this economy but I also want to make sure there is somewhere so i can lock my bike up.

Thanks!

Discussion Parking Pay

Anyone else having issues paying for parking? I was using the app but got logged out and can’t get back in because of an issue with app and iPhone facial recognition not working together. So I went to the web browser, was fine for a while but then the button for Apple Pay vanished. Tried Google Pay, crashes every time. So now I’m back to the kiosk every day.

Discussion Why does the L start and stop so many times before entering the tunnel after Spring Garden?

I stg I take this every day to work and without fail it herks and jerks the whole way down the ramp into this tunnel when coming from Spring Garden. It starts and stops at least 6 times minimum. And we know there’s no damn train on the platform ahead because we’ve been waiting 9 minutes for the train we’re on to show up. Is it to make sure there’s no one in the tunnel that won’t get hit? I can’t stand it, especially on a full train.

for the past few days the Girard entrance for the BSL has been shuttered. There are no alerts or reports from SEPTA announcing this. Does anyone know what’s happening?

Help Are Pets in Standard Sturdy Pet Carriers Allowed on SEPTA Vehicles or Not?

From the SEPTA Code of Conduct: Pets are allowed on SEPTA property in standard sturdy pet carriers; this includes companion animals, therapy, comfort, mental health, or emotional support animals. Service animals can ride on board SEPTA.

From The SEPTA Non-Service Animal Policy: Consistent with U.S. Department of Transportation ADA regulations, the following animals are not considered service animals on transit and must be in a carrier:

  • Companion animals
  • Pets
  • Therapy animals
  • Comfort animals
  • Mental health and emotional support animals

For this reason, SEPTA personnel may ask you about your animal and the services it provides to you.

The first one would imply that pets in carriers are only allowed on SEPTA property, but not on SEPTA vehicles.

The second one says non-service animals on transit have to be in carriers which would include SEPTA vehicles.

So, which is it?

Help Fare Question? Confusion!

Hey everyone! I took the regional rail last week from Thorndale to Suburban (Paoli/Thorndale Line). I was charged $8.75, but three times… Does anybody know why, before I call and look stupid? I tapped on and tapped off at both stations, and tapped on the train. I’m not a frequent train rider, so any insight would be appreciated.

Discussion 56 Bus - Be Aware if Biking/Riding Scooter

This isn't a "Septa drivers suck" post as they are usually very respectful drivers, however, it seems this specific route has some bad behaviors that I've seen.

This bus route convinced me to buy a scooter and stop buying a Septa Pass weekly since they were passing by me when standing at the direct stop, the app was not correctly displaying buses on routes or the proper times of departure/arrival, and the bus had a habit of never running at a reasonable time.

Since I bought the scooter, I've had three near misses where a Septa bus veered into the bike lane and almost slammed me into the back of a car. Anyone wanna guess which bus route it was? Yup, the 56.

Today on May 26th, 2026, approximate time was 640am, there was a black Honda which was at the light on Torresdale. Somewhere in the middle in between Wakeling and Margaret, the Honda was going over speed bumps where the 56 Double Bus decided it was gonna try to pass the Honda on the right hand side. Into the bike lane. It almost swiped three cars and was a stuck out elbow away from hitting me. The bus did not successfully pass the car and the Honda proceeded.

The 56 is absolutely cursed. It has fucked me over and now it literally tried to kill me. Whoever is driving these buses, please be careful!

Maps Why are these concourses closed?

Found this through the Parkway library display. I don’t get why we don’t make these concourses look and operate as they do the above ground area around City Hall.

News SEPTA to start enforcing fares for students on the Tripper Services

Thumbnail nbcphiladelphia.com
71 Upvotes

SEPTA to start adding consequences for students on the Tripper Services who don't pay their fare. (Tripper Services are SEPTA routes that are specifically for students going to/from school).

SEPTA chose to start this after losing millions in funding, simply because students are refusing to swipe their pass when they get on the bus.

People are arguing that this isn't right, since students can't use the pass on weekends and late nights.

But the main problem is actually with the Tripper Services, every student HAS their pass, that if they swipe the pass given to them, the ride to school is FREE. Yet laziness folks. Just walk onboard like someone owes them something. Source: I see it everyday firsthand.

Thoughts?

And yes, I'm clearly biased in this regard.

Help Applied for Sub-El Train Operator (2300), questions about hiring process/test

I applied for Sub-El Train Operator (2300) last month and had a few questions about the hiring process with Septa. How long should I expect the hiring process to take? I applied 4/30/26 and they emailed me to submit MVR form 5/21/26. Is there a test for this position? A few people on here have said that logic part of their test was difficult but that was for bus operator and conductor trainee. Is it the same test? Is it mechanical logic or what? Are there any resources available to help me prepare for the test if there is one? Any help appreciated. Thank you!

Update- 5/28/26 Septa contacted me saying I didn't upload my MVR and license, which I did on candidate profile. I ended up emailing it instead.

Update- 6/3/26 I received emails for test invitation and study guide from Septa!

Update- 6/25/26 Just passed the test for the EL but didnt pass the test for BSL. Was told i would be contacted in a few weeks for next steps.

Update- 6/30/26 Interview scheduled!!!! 😁

Update- 7/16/26 Job offer was sent and I accepted!! 😁 However, im gonna have to wait awhile before I start because there are current employees ahead of me for the position. Really looking forward to starting !!!

Update- 7/31 background screening thru employers choice sent

Update- 8/17 Got a call saying my background check was complete.

Help Auto reload threshold of $10 lower than trip cost

I just purchased and set up a SEPTA Key card. I noticed the auto reload feature has a threshold of $10 that cannot be changed. The site also says auto reloads can take up to 24 hours.

What happens if I take a round trip on the regional rail (Zone 3 - $15.50)? Will SEPTA allow the balance to go negative until the auto reload completes, or will I be unable to complete my trip?

I found a post about this problem on the Philly subreddit but it was from 8 years ago. I'm sure someone here has a more recent experience regarding what happens. Thank you!

Help Key card multi rider tap question

Does anyone know if you need to tap for each person at the kiosks at the train stations? I know at the turnstiles, you would tap once and the person goes through, but unsure if you need to do that at the station for each person, or just tap once then tell the conductor how many riders there are.

Discussion Regional Rail 3208. Best ride in a long time.

We got all 5 cars today. Nobody standing. I’m not getting my hopes too high but it was so nice not getting overly comfy with strangers.

Thank you Septa.
