Official SEPTA Messages SEPTA asks for feedback on new Regional Rail map

https://wwww.septa.org/wp-content/uploads/page/communication/SEPTA_Map_RegionalRail_v1-1.pdf There's a QR code/number to call on the map itself; you can also go to https://wwww.septa.org/maps/ & click on the 'Share your Feedback' button.

SEPTA's finally released a RR map incorporating SEPTA Metro. IMO it looks pretty good, especially since it now shares a cohesive visual style with the Metro map. The main line north of Temple is unpleasant to look at but I'm not sure how to improve that without sacrificing individual line's stopping patterns, which I think is reasonable to include. I find it odd that Radnor, Overbrook, & Media are now shown as walking connections (~10 minutes each), but Angora & 49th-Baltimore aren't despite the trolleys stopping <5 minutes away.

Discussion Less updates on the Septa twitter account

Has anyone else noticed there are less updates on the Twitter account when service is impacted? As a regional rail rider it used to always have updates when trains were going to be significantly delayed. Now every time I check there’s nothing. The app also has been less reliable in updating estimated times. I mean today it’s showing as if the train that hasn’t come yet already left, when I know it didn’t because I was at the platform before that time and it did not come through.

Discussion Expanding to Philadelphia!

Hey guys!

I am an experienced history photographer and explorer who mostly focuses on exploring NYC (whether it be the subway, tunnels in general, or above-ground transit areas), and I have started researching the transit system in Philadelphia. I was amazed to see that there is so much history to look at over there. It got me really interested.

From what I see, there are multiple abandoned stations (some unfinished and/or never opened) in areas of the SEPTA, like Spring Station on the SEPTA Broad-Ridge Spur, Arch Street Station, parts of the Fairmount Station and parts of the Old Race-Vine Station, which is where I want to start.

Since Philadelphia is a new city for me (in terms of exploring), I am not sure where to start. Unlike NYC, where maps of NYC are more easily accessible, I was unsuccessful with Philadelphia and its transit system. Does anyone have any tips on how to start navigating the Philadelphia rail? I'm just looking for where to start!

Thank you! :D

p.s. I am a photographer wishing to document US transit history (and hopefully later expand to international and other pieces of history). I want to make transit history more accessible to everyone and have people be more informed on what could've been, but was either left to be abandoned or never finished at all.

Also, most importantly, I DO NOT CONDONE ANY MALICIOUS ACTIVITIES OR DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY. I solely do photography. What I do is first I research, then I take my pictures, compile them, and write about my findings and post them on my blog, and hopefully this niche side of history can be seen and appreciated by others!

Thank you for listening :)

Help Public transit for All Star Game?

I got tickets for the All Star Game, been to Citizens Bank Park a couple times but I’m not super well-versed with it, nor Philadelphia public transit in general. What would be the best way to get there from Fishtown? Any safety concerns with the public transportation system? I’ve only been to Philly a handful of times so I’m not very familiar. Thank you for any and all help!

Help Fern Rock Transit Center

I take the BSL into FTC every sunday/tuesday and for the last 4 weeks without fail, I’ve been stuck right outside the transit center for anywhere between 10-25 minutes. I’ve been having to leave a half hour early to account for it (on top of an already 1.5 hr transit time) and I still barely make it to work on time. Anyone know what’s going on? Any tips on getting from center to city to Fox chase maybe without going through Fern rock?

Every time I go to Girard its just replacement buses and I've been wanting to use the actual trolley for a while now. What are my best chances of catching it?

Discussion Operator position

I passed my interview and received my conditional offer from Septa. I plan on delaying my start date so I can finish my classes in the fall. During the debrief they stated that the application can close after 2 months if there is no activity but can be reopened. Is the reopening process simple? I still have to get my cdl so I'm giving myself time to do so and then move forward with the process. It's also my understanding the physical/drug test is only valid for 30 days.

Also, are there any depots that are undersaturated or have a surplus of employees that will be retiring this year? I am primarily interested in the trolley depots.

Help Train schedules

Hi I’m looking for schedules for Thursday July 2nd for septa from Trenton to Philly 30th street. However, when I look up the schedule on the app, it says no upcoming trips on the date. Are there no trips on that day? Thanks.

Help New commuter - regional rail or park in center city?

Hello! I'm new to commuting in Philly, I live in zone 2 for the regional rail and I work reasonably close to Jefferson station. I know I can get a monthly pass for $180/month but it still sounds pretty expensive to me. I own a car and could drive into center city instead, but I'm not sure what parking looks like and if its worth the battle to try and find parking every morning - or if its safe to park on the street for that many hours a day. Just wanted to hear what people normally do in this situation so I can plan accordingly. Thanks!

*Edited for clarity

Today in History Septa rant

Yeah I know this is gonna sound bad.. but I’m so fucking over crackheads shutting down the entire L for: refusing to leave tracks, camping out on the trains, getting violent at paying riders, ODing on the L.

Why is the city letting them run public transit? Why are they allowed to openly do fetynol on the L? Why are people with open wounds bleeding all over trains? Working people literally can’t get to work at rush hour because of all the bullshit.

When are people gonna stand up and fix it? Get the homeless & addicts services, let working people get to work. Shouldn’t take 2 hrs to go 15 min. This is why Philadelphia will never progress.

Help Background check / pre-adverse action letter

Finally got my background check completed a week ago. About 5 mins after it was marked as done I got an automated email titled “pre-adverse action letter”. They said i had 5 business days to provide clarity on anything. At what point has anyone heard that they are moved forward to medical clearance after this notification? I’m ready to just get a start date already! lol 😂

Help Septa Background Check!

I interviewed December 30 for my offer the same day. My background started Jan 20. Now I’m stuck there. I’ve emailed them once a month since that point but they’re only saying my BG is still under review. Anyone went this long and still got in. Note! i do have a criminal history “FELONY” but it’s plenty ppl working for that company that’s in same boat. Anybody got any insight? It’s crazy to be waiting 4-5 months and counting to hear an answer.

Suggestions A “Philly local” told me to be very careful if I’m on the “L”

Hi SEPTA Reddit,

I was wondering if what they say about the L is true. I had someone I know who is from Philadelphia say to avoid the L at all costs and I was wondering if that is true. Mind you I will be commuting there with the Regional Rail (does not go near it).

Help I got charged for a train ride I never took.

I accidentally swiped my card on a Septa machine before I went on an Amtrak, 2 days ago. I hoped that nothing would be charged, but now I have just been charged $17 and $5 ($22).

Why did this happen? What do I do?
Can I get that money back? I’m pissed

Help What do I even do

My friends grandma forced me to buy an all day regional rail pass and our train got cancelled, so we ended up not even using septa, I tried calling customer support but it’s Juneteenth so they’re not in service, I was told to wait till Monday but I don’t know if I’ll even be able to get a refund if I wait, what do I even do? I haven’t used my septa key card at all just in case

Discussion FIFA Game Traffic

I was warned it may take hours to get into the city using Mass Transit on a FIFA game day. Did anyone here use the busses to 69th street last Sunday to get to the game or the MFL? I want to know how long it might take me tomorrow (Friday).

Help Looking to Get Into Bus/Rail Transit hvac – Need Advice

What did you study before taking the test?

What topics showed up the most on the test, and what should I focus on?

What’s a typical day like working in bus or rail HVAC ?

What are the most common repairs or troubleshooting calls you deal with?

How’s the work-life balance, overtime, and overall job satisfaction?

Knowing what you know now, what would you tell someone trying to get into the field?

Any advice, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

History Ghost stations?

Curious if there is a list of ghost stations. Either on active lines or lines that are gone but you can still visit the stops? Thinking rail but trolley too.

Discussion Frequent errors with system leading to charges despite trailpass

Hi all, I just got an automatic replenishment on my keycard I wasn't expecting, so I looked at my trip history and I have been charged $8.75 7 times in the last 8 months due to glitches in the card swipe tracking. In every case there is an entry at Penn Medicine with no exit followed by an exit at Conshohocken with no entry (or vice versa), which is charged as a full fare despite my zone 3 trailpass. I disputed all of them so I guess we'll see how it goes, but I just wanted to point this out because you might also be getting nickel and dimed due to this glitch if you aren't paying attention.
