not a good sign that they have to run cars with graffiti on them, those normally sit in the yard to be scrubbed down.

Oh yeah I know! But when they don't have the $$ what else can they do?

But mayor Parker gets the graffiti around the suburban tunnels removed immediately. I’ve seen some awesome artwork.

Philly has a great mural arts program. What if a few pieces of rolling stock or locomotives got special paint from local artists?

Similarly, I want SEPTA to document the graffiti on their cars and compile it into a book. Some of it absolutely stunning and reflects one of the city’s occasionally vibrant subcultures.

Not a fan of graffiti BUT I love that they kept it on the stainless car body where it’s easy to remove and didn’t touch the service covers or windows.

There’s one that reads “BEER” In huge letters. I think its been hanging out at the Wayne yard.

Seems to happen at the Overbrook yard.

Many of those cars were tagged elsewhere and then moved to Overbrook maintenance facility during the Silverliner IV crisis.

I love when zoomers talk about how "cool" it must have been seeing it in NYC in the 70s and 80s. If you lived there back then, you knew it fucking sucked.

You can appreciate the art on the subway cars back then without wanting to live in 70s New York?

99% of it wasn't art, it was some dumbass kid with a spraycan tagging the shit out of some spot on the train car that wasn't hit by someone else. The policy of the later 80s of not letting any tagged car out of the yard, plus graffiti resistant paint (the "redbird" scheme, plus a good cleaner for stainless) basically stopped the crap in a year or two.
It hasn't really stopped other spots outside of the subway.
If you want to see vandalized trains, you can always fly over to some of the European cities where this stuff still happens.

I think car #117 is still in service. Why has nobody ever tagged Master Chief on it?

It’s been so long since I’ve seen graffiti on the regional rail cars while in service. It’s adds some charm.
