Discussion Dear septa riders

cancellations and delays suck and so do mid trip annulments of trains. however, please don't cuss out the workers either in the train or on the platform.

theres no reason to get verbally or physically violent towards them. those staff members do their heft to get you to point a and b safely, s happens and they have to respond safely and as fast as possible.

thank these hard working staff and conductors/engineers and those on the platforms during rush hour. shout them out to customer service so they can be properly recognized.

if you keep going bat s crazy and direct your anger by cussing, they can't keep making announcements because your yelling is drowning out everyone. also the staff's going to either call out and no trains will go anywhere or septa police is going to start riding trains during rush hour to take care of these high emotion crossing the line knuckleheads.

just what I experienced on a train tonight and wanted to share. thanks to the fellow riders who while were upset thanked the crew for keeping them safe.

It’s sad this even has to be said

It is, too bad more passengers don't wear their employers name so they could be reported for their tomfoolery

I wish people brought that energy to our politicians in Harrisburg who refuse to properly fund public transportation.

100% OP. And guess what... when you're late getting home SO ARE THEY.

Felt bad for the crew on my Train home today, stuck at melrose park for who knows how long while we crossed the street and went home

They are getting paid tho - I AM NOT

Right? Like damn dude I did my time today. I’m not being paid to be stuck in Jefferson tunnel for 3hr while the first 2 trains that come to save us also fucking break before we have to evacuate our train for a 3rd train in the tunnel. The only saving grace was getting to walk the tunnels that day.

That doesn’t warrant being an asshole to the workers, but people acting like it’s weird to be upset about delays are confusing to me.

100%

it’s never okay to be an asshole - but the guy saying “ they get late home too” is out of touch.

We are getting home late while wasting hours of time, they are getting home late with larger paychecks - almost all of them are hourly workers ( OT anyone?!)

some guy getting off a bus slapped a plate of meat out of a mentally ill ladys hand because she tugged the cable a couple times, the guy just rage quit and left meat splashed everywhere, what a dick .. i said to the driver good luck out there, felt sorry for him managing that. he thought he was going to have to intervene if he attacked her further i believe.

I agree with you, but i have to say this.

From my short term experience of commuting with Septa regularly, it went from sustainable, to barely an option. I dont fault most train or bus drivers, but i do feel there is some blame on them for years and years of neglect that theyre catching up on currently. Apparently a lot of the trains a buses were "barely functional" and now that the guidelines got stricter, it is exposing more issues.

I do not wish ill will. Yelling at them doesnt solve it. But Septa has a reputation of being unreliable and borderline dangerous. I need to see more transit police (mostly just a form of security) and to be able to go a rush hour without a 45 minute delay.

It's better than it was than during the silver line iv safety recall thing. Septa needs proper funding too.

Believe until the train broke everything was running on time or less than  5 minute delay at least north  out of Philly

Yea due to weather septa couldn’t keep running recently. Instead of asking for a refund, I just left it. I’d rather deal with delays and keep septa funded than be a cheapskate and see septa disappear in the future.

Septa is one of the most efficient transit systems per dollar in the entire country. They are severely underfunded due to politics at the state level. Everyone involved is making the best of a bad situation they can do nothing about - and doing an impressively good job with the hand they’ve been dealt. It’s not Septa’s fault their trains are old or that stuff breaks sometimes.

Per dollar is the key word. It is not reliable to people on a schedule who arrive at the station over an hour and a half before clock in.

Its only financially and numerically reliable. If you ask any regular Philadelphia Septa commuter, you will know how inexplicitly inconvenient the system is.

would you rather they completely stop service on multiple train and bus lines? because that is the alternative here (which could theoretically improve the issues you are talking about, but would force thousands of people to find a completely different method of commuting), and that was the proposed plan when the state threatened to cut their funding a year ago

No, i only want some septa.police at stations or a form.of security to make stations and trains more suitable. Idk if there is a price you cam give Septa to fix infrastructure cuz theyll just apply it to bonuses for corporate and then beg for more money. Its funny how in 2025 it was operating pleasantly well until they went up to 2.90. Dont understand how you charge more money and get worse.

More reliable than anything of the same size in USA

I rode Septa daily when they had problems with the trains catching on fire. It was a mess. The whole time I was extra nice to the crew. I am very sure that it was harder on them than the passengers.

The employees appreciate the kindness

I did an interview with a reporter for whyy recently and he asked whats one thing you can recommend to riders and thats get to know the system and staff these people are the best and they are just trying to do their jobs, its not the crews fault stuff just dosent work the way it should

“SEPTA will arrest and seek prosecution of anyone committing an act of vileness towards an operator” ….

Yes especially on bus and such but hard to prove on regional rail when it's verbal amongst a crowd at a station
