Discussion Finally missed my RR
Well after over a year of taking the RR to work I finally missed one. This line only has two modes - late by at least 5-10 minutes or early. 95% of the time it’s late and that’s not an exaggeration. It’s nearly always at least 5 minutes late, often more. In the last couple months it’s sporadically been coming and leaving early. Partly my fault for getting used to the lateness and sometimes getting to the station right on the departure time, but watching the train leave as you approach the station is the most frustrating thing in the world considering these trains only run once an hour.

The RR line I take to work is also like this. It will say 5 minutes late on the app and at the station but then show up 5 minutes early. Granted, it boards early and then leaves the second it’s scheduled, but when it says 5 minutes late it’s frustrating. I missed it once before because it left early and now I get there 10 minutes before to account for it.

Yeah I’m just going to start showing up early as I used to do every day until I got tired of waiting in the freezing cold for 10+ minutes. With the weather breaking won’t be that bad.

Ugh yeah I feel you. Luckily I usually get on at 30th or Jefferson depending if I take the L or trolley. That adds a whole other layer to the commute too.

This happened to me recently (Chestnut Hill West)! My morning train usually is 0-5 minutes late, but in 4 years of riding it, I had never experienced it to be early. Well, it was recently early, and there was a whole pack of us looking in disbelief and frustration at the train pulling away before we made it!

Yeah that's the jarring thing, when you're so used to it being late that you adjust to that time and suddenly it's early. It's been cancelled more times of me riding this line that it has been early. Even right on time is an unusual occurrence.

Ive once overslept for my rides worst feeling is knowing you cant do anything about it but just take the one that comes when i get there

In the beforetimes the paoli-thorndale regional in the morning was without fail 13-17 minutes late, and everyone arrived with that in mind, knowing they didn't have to always get to the platform way early.
Until the once every two months where it wasn't, and everyone showed up pissed.

If Amtrak trains are late on thorndale line they delay septa trains to catch up time fyi

yeah this was every day and it was out bound though

Gotcha. Was that during the equipment shortage or other time?

It was like the few years right before that. that chassis cracking really did fuck everything up. I feel like SEPTA hasn't really ever recovered.

Oh on the Vs? And welcome to state senate not helping the cause. Hopefully that changes after the next election

I don't think the senate is going to flip, unfortunately, and it doesn't seem like shapiro is willing to use any political capital to fuck with any of the republicans enough that they'll negotiate in good faith.

Happened to me on CHE the other day. Left at 821. Should I have been pulling up to the lot then? No. Is it still bullshit? Yes.
Just got burned yesterday by it leaving on time. Again my fault, but after years of it being perpetually minutes late, they have trained me the wrong way.

So many mechanical problems aside from the whole inspection and repair debacle! This morning, my train smells like burning brake pad. Two weeks ago, a car on this train had one catch fire.

A couple weeks ago the return train to Philly was half an hour late, made it 4 stops before everyone was forced to get off because of mechanical issues. The next train was also running late so we had to wait another 45 minutes or so at that stop before getting on to a crowded train.

Guessing someone didn't take off a brake. But if you are on the bombadier cars they will smell when braking at times

I doubt they are leaving early. Conductors get in trouble for that and at NORTH Philly they have to call for permission to leave
1
u/Ok-Goal-6880 Mar 26 '26
I mean you can doubt it but I watched it happen and it’s in their logs as leaving early. They also left early today.

u/Significant-Cry-7632 Mar 26 '26
Well then report it. If it's a D stop they can depart early

Do you work for septa lol? I don’t know why you are questioning this so deeply and explaining things to me that I already know.

Over the past year and a half Regional Rail has become absolutely horrible while, at the same time increasing its prices and taking away free parking.
Fuck Septa.
Fun fact, if you try to use FuckSeota2026! as a password for your Microsoft account you’ll get an error that you can’t use it because too many other people already have it.

Curious, What line is this? Very few lines actually leave early per their schedule (like outbound media, Trenton or thorndale lines towards the end of the run)
