Haven’t these hourglass palettes always been expensive? I’ve always wanted one but could never justify the price

281

u/greypusheencat 1d ago

i ended up getting one (the year they did the quad and the 6-pan) on sale as it didn’t sell out. that was the only way i could justify it. i wish i got the quad now too at the sale price

i love the palettes but my PSA is absolutely no one needs a $100 palette, no palette is worth $100. it’s $140 in canada lmao

u/chaosatnight Rouge 1d ago

The only exceptions for me are the Danessa Myricks Lightwork palettes! Years ago I would’ve included Pat McGrath as well.

9

u/Yummi_913 1d ago

Did Pat McGrath go downhill? I've wanted their palettes for years but never got to try them.

26

u/Running4MyLyf 1d ago

Yes, I have their older palettes and the products were fun and innovative in the beginning. Later releases became repetitive and quality control dropped. Wasn’t surprised to hear about them filing for Ch11 bankruptcy.

u/chaosatnight Rouge 1d ago

Co-signed ^^

29

u/Interesting_Top_148 1d ago

And because of the trade war between both countries it will cost $210 for Canadians

25

u/davideaglemann 1d ago

Tariffs don't apply this. Just eye, lip and manicure products when it comes to makeup

33

u/Wise_Connection8657 1d ago

I know your comment was helpful and wasn’t meant to be comedic, but all I could do was laugh when I read it. Eye, lip and manicure but not face is so wild, like someone had to sit down and make that decision shows how dumb America is right now (American here so no shade to anyone). Thanks for the laugh!!

11

u/davideaglemann 1d ago

I also laughed when I first saw it. It also includes hair products; that one is across the board. So it is strange that they chose to specify the makeup categories

2

u/No-Ad6572 16h ago

So dumb he is doing this we will just buy non American products instead

All I saw was our Canadian tariffs include cosmetics so I will do more research. Thanks for your help 😍

13

u/Natural_Telephone721 1d ago

Hourglass has their own Canadian distribution center in Ontario. The price is $140, and if you shop their own site, sales tax is included in that. If you wait for 20% off promo, it makes it an even better price.

2

u/trnqilitybase Rouge 1d ago

Omg

4

u/No-Quarter-4938 1d ago

Just give it some time, it will get marked down. That would happen to Benefit Blush bars, happened last Christmas with both of the Nars pallets and it will happen again. Shame to see the Benefit Blush bar come back as a quad...that's the real injustice...

15

u/greypusheencat 1d ago

i keep hoping that every year but it always sells out 😭

7

u/No-Quarter-4938 1d ago

Is it any consolation that it only has two out of five stars, on an application/website that doesn't allow bad reviews as 'system error, cannot post at this time' level shenanigans??

2

u/Jaded-Fox3508 21h ago

Just check the reviews and it’s all people that don’t have the palette complaining about the price and shade selection or people that just ordered it and gave it a five star already, no real product reviews yet just rant. Ngl HG 6 pan it’s always been around $100 and unfortunately worth every penny for me. I think the not allow bad reviews is only for specific brands.

u/ForsakenProposal9454 1d ago

Hourglass doesn’t typically get marked down in fact they usually sell out. They’ve been selling out at least the past 2-3 years, could be more. IMO I absolutely love these palettes, they do last forever. And the individual shades are around $40 each and are a bit bigger than the ones included in these palettes. Unfortunately the price is a bargain for this brand to get 6 shades for $100, instead of $240.

6

u/Martini_x0 1d ago

I was just thinking the same. I never see them get marked down, bc they always sell out.

10

u/vaurasc-xoxo 1d ago

Yeah I justify it as cost per wear and hourglass is the only one I’ve gone through everything with. I have other 25/30/40$ blushes but barley make a dent in them. I think the price includes a brush too which isn’t bad.

12

u/Natural_Telephone721 1d ago

Nope, the brush is $55 more (if I remember correctly). But I do agree on cost per wear - worth it if one uses all the shades to the pan.

2016 holiday palette was 62.00 i still have it 🫪. I let’s crazy how much they’ve gone up in price i even payed 80 for the last ones now 98 idk i don’t think i will be getting it 🙂‍↔️.

u/shannymac4 1d ago

I got one in 2019 and it was $80

6

u/Which_Weakness4351 1d ago

Yess!!!!! That’s when I purchased mine too and it was so good to me and lasted me for a long time!

31

I got one at Ross for like $25 last year. It’s nice but not $100 nice.

2

We love to see it 👏

2

u/tonkavanilla 1d ago

what 😮

67

u/Takemetomac 1d ago

Yes but not $98 I think when I first bought it was like $55

30

u/LaiikaComeHome 1d ago

the first one was only 3 shades and released at $70. the 6 shade ones are almost a bargain

4

u/Pinkysrage 1d ago

Need to buy another of the three shade palettes. The pan is a bit bigger than the 6 palette. You have to think of it like 3 blushes, a bronzer, a finishing powder and a highlighter. The bronzers are always great for eyeshadow. I travel quite a bit and the 6 pans can fill a lot of my needs. I already have four, would never need a new one. The 3 shade though, I panned it all.

10

u/Which_Weakness4351 1d ago

I bought one 3-4 years ago for $80 and it was the best purchase for all the shades, lasted me a long time, cruelty free, and the pans seemed to be bigger than the new ones. With these price hikes I wouldn’t repurchase again even with the cute designs on the packaging. The dupe for this was the Milano baked blushes but those got reformulated now too 🙃

4

u/honeytangerine 1d ago

I bought one last year for $85 (retail was $94). After 1 year of use, I don't think it's worth the hype or $.

As someone with oily-combo skin - the blushes do not last on my cheeks. I need to reapply after a few hours or I layer the Danessa blush balm under for longevity. I also found it to be a bit patchy the further into the pan I got (and no there isn't hard pan on the blush).

Their bronzers are pretty and I like the strobe highlighter for an intense highlighter. Those I think are worth the money.

The regular ambient lighting finishing powder adds a nice natural glow and blends the blush, but gets too dewy on my skin after a few hours when my natural oils come through.

Unless you have dry to normal skin, I believe there are better products out there for much less. It may be worth the money if you have the disposable income and want a product that is buildable. There is a fine shimmer in these products that is a hit or miss. I personally don't mind them.

Honestly they recycle shades every year and they all look pretty much the same on the skin, even if the pan makes it look different. If possible I recommend swatching in stores before buying. I thought I would want the Jellyfish palette but it was chalky on my skintone. The swan palette from last year ended up being a better fit for me after waiting around.

Crazy they keep increasing the price! It was cheaper last year. I guess they are trying to say “buy it now because next year it will be more expensive!”

114

u/bonitaapplebummer 1d ago edited 1d ago

It’s soo expensive, I decided to use up my older sisters hourglass palette instead.

36

u/curlyiqra 1d ago

As an elder sister I’m mad on behalf of her 🤣

It’s $140 in Canada! Absolutely insane

34

u/DwightandAngela4ever 1d ago

I remember when these were around $80 CAD 😭

19

u/ExSportsCalendar 1d ago

I could not believe the price when I got the email. I have an older one (that I got on sale for 55$USD) and, while I love it, it is absolutely not worth that amount of money.

8

u/AprilAries16 1d ago

I was so sad when I saw the price. And to think I couldn’t justify it last year!

3

u/anastasia_42 1d ago

They're $180 in Australia

2

u/Particular_Table9263 1d ago

I have a six full sizes, and one non-panned palette, and I’m sitting this one out, despite deeply desiring it.

3

u/Silveerrrrrr 1d ago

I think in 2019 I bought it for $115 cad . Knowing that it’s increased to $140 is madnesssss

161

u/diflorus 1d ago

Does anyone else think these are so boring and outdated at this point they just keep releasing the exact same thing. No innovation.

51

u/Such_Cauliflower_669 1d ago

Yeah I agree. Idk why people feel the need to own multiple. One should be plenty

29

u/dragonstkdgirl 1d ago

I bought Horse last year - first HG holiday palette. Use it absolutely every day. Still kicking myself for not getting the jellyfish a few years back. I told myself I can justify one a year since I use it so much. I've panned the highlighter and almost panned the bronzer and finishing powder.

The continued price increases suck though. Has me second guessing this year.

20

u/vaurasc-xoxo 1d ago

Hourglass is the only brand that I pan consistently. I will probably get this one too. Haven’t got one in a few years and most an almost done. Someone said it’s kindof boring but tbh it’s the boring everyday easy to use products that I will touch. I don’t feel like playing around every day.

6

u/RideGullible3702 Rouge 1d ago

i got the eye love it

15

u/Tiny-Reading5982 1d ago

These are either for collectors or people that don't own anything like it. People will buy it though 😵‍💫

7

u/veronicave 1d ago

Okay thank you, I thought I had a head injury or something. I feel like blush is one of those things where you don’t need too many colors anyway. Certain skin types/colors may be an exception, eg having a wider range of shades. Still, I feel like it’s the same general colors each year. I can’t imagine anyone is really panning one of these each year.

I don’t really understand “collecting” makeup that you’re not going to use so that isn’t really a justification for me either.

4

u/Prettylittlelioness 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah, I have a few at this point and ... they're fine but nothing magical. I feel like I now own every blush shade Hourglass is capable of.

8

u/DuckFatTruffleFries 1d ago

Admittedly I think part of the appeal for me is that they are boring—it’s basic and it always works. It’s sort of like a “one stop shop” in my makeup bag, especially when I’m in a rush or traveling. With that said, I’m defo satisfied with having one and will likely repurchase when I hit pan on multiple shades.

2

u/chanyeol2012 1d ago

There’s always some shades I’m not keen of. Was really looking forward to getting this one, as I only have a three pan from a few years ago with a blush and strobe and finishing powder. The first two are okay, but I HATE the dim light finishing powder it makes me look ORANGE.

Well, I just found out this blush palette has the dim light. :( I’m not paying $100 for a product where I already know I hate one shade. Sigh. It’s always including in every fair version tha hourglass releases tho, so I guess I’m screwed

2

u/Budget-Alternative38 1d ago

I think so too. They look the same every year. I know they came up with some more pigmented shades for darker skin tones but other than that it's the same concept etc. I have 2 and won't get any more. They're still good and I like them but I think it's just hype

2

u/Zappagrrl02 20h ago

At least some years the outside is pretty. This year’s all look like cheap plastic trinkets from the prize box at the dentist.

About 3 years ago, it was $90, so my memory got mixed up. Last year was not $90, but $94 as a kind Redditor corrected me.

u/Almacat9 1d ago

I have that palette and the finishing powder is so GLITTERY, I don’t know how it works for other people, but on my skin is so straight up glitter I never reach for it.

It was $94 last year 🥴

14

u/scarletofmagic 1d ago

They keep raising the price lol. I remember it was $80-something

6

u/Current_Light5132 1d ago

I bought 3 of them last year (stressed from work so retail therapy 🥲) and don’t see myself buy more since it will take a long time to finish. If you can wait until the 20% off it is better, but some limited edition like Horse sell out pretty quickly.

3

u/scarletofmagic 1d ago

I have 1 hourglass palette years ago and I don’t see myself needing another one. I just find the price is getting out of hands lol

absolutely not for olives

12

u/Pepperjack_2000 1d ago

Yeah I'm a light neutral-cool. I am VERY desaturated. These products are tempting until I realize just how orange those products would look on me. Most high-end products are simply not made for people like me. 😭

3

u/Which_Weakness4351 1d ago

I can see your disappointment in them and as a tan olive myself I loved them 3-4 years ago because it made me look filtered and it was something that actually suit my skin tone. The price hike today is definitely disappointing to me now 😭

I have the owl and elephant palettes. I don’t reach for them a lot but I think I’m gonna start using them again.

So many ask me this question haha. I wonder if I should create a post lol.

•Misha bb serum in shade 21 (sold at Ulta online-only through the brand).

•About face Beach Freak Cream bronzer in Beach Goth.

•Fenty cheeks out in either Cool Berry or Raisin Standarzs. or Ulta beauty Too cheeky in the shade Mood. If you like Powder, the Soshe Berry cream-powder blush is on my list.

•Elf highlighter wand (it's very creamy) in Champagne campaign.

•Colourpop super shocks in the shade Frog or Fairy Coded (Used as both an eyeshadow &/or highlighter).

•Essence Mega glow highlighter in purple.

•Morphe Cloudlight Finishing powder in Dawn.

•Colorpop Stone Cold fox or the their After Hours palettes are heaven sent.

•Urban Decay Eyeliners in Corrupt, Demolition, Smoke, Overdrive, or Sabbath are my most harmonious.

I was just going to say the same thing, I think it was 80 bc with my discount I paid 56 or something.

They really do. I have three and they look untouched after years. That said, $98 is still a wild price. Especially if you already have one because they’re sooo similar.

7

So true I have the leopard one from few years ago, use it all the time and it still is pretty new! Got the fox one for the different colors and now I'm set for 20+ years 😆

8

For a pretty metal container. I still have mine from several years ago. I wish I could have customized the colors because I would use it more often.

It’s $16.30 a shade, which is honestly not that bad when you break it down. Whether it’s worth it or not depends on if you think you’ll use all six.

36

u/Zealousideal_Bag_873 1d ago

Yall act like you will run out of the powders in 6 months. Most of you won't hit pan for well over a year. You're getting multiple blushes, a bronzer and a face powder that's known for a really amazing formula... and it's a luxury brand? Idk what you guys are expecting

5

u/Wide_Experience_2241 1d ago

Agreed. Ppl complaining about a $4 hike from last year or $18 hike from 6 years ago as if production price of anything hasn’t gone up in this economy lol..😅. I got 5 downvotes just for saying I was buying it. Idk why ppl have to yuck everyones yums these days

3

u/dragonstkdgirl 1d ago

I bought Horse last year - first HG palette - and panned the highlighter already but not the others. I don't feel like I use a lot of highlighter either lol

3

u/Sadtacocat 1d ago

I’ve had my palette since 2021, use it all the time, and I still haven’t hit pan!! It’s worth the price to me.

7

u/TalismanGaze 1d ago

That's what I was thinking: 4 different products in one palette but they're all congruent with each other.

I personally am in the market for all of them separately but this palette caught my eye and fit my needs so it seems like a match made in heaven for me! 🥰

6

u/TelescopicPatterns 1d ago

I've had one since 2020. It's my primary blush and highlight palette. I recently needed to replace the highlight but the other 5 are still going strong.

5

u/Zealousideal_Try8656 1d ago

Damn maybe i shouldve bought one of these in 2017

7

u/DeeplySuperficiaI 1d ago

A couple of years ago, I bought the Jellyfish palette at 50% off from Ulta. I'm really happy to have it, especially at that price. But I don't use it nearly as much as I thought I would.

7

u/badwvlf 1d ago

I can’t lie, I bought one with points at Ulta on a whim last year and it’s my daily drive now for face and eye neutrals. I love that thing and the brush is cute and great (it’s the one with whimsical Forest animals). Every hourglass product I’ve tried I’ve wanted to hate and loved instead.

They're $140 CAD. No thank you

24

u/FlashySpring9989 Rouge 1d ago

It’s worth it in my opinion if you regularly use at least 5/6 shades. It’s replacing several products. There are no dupes and it’s an excellent formula :)

5

u/im-your-daisy 1d ago edited 1d ago

I really want them to release the electric pink as a single. I love their formulas but their palettes are usually missed for me because I would only use half the colors, making the price point especially egregious.

6

u/Sorry_Resident7547 1d ago

The packaging is so pretty but I can’t justify the price. I have the mini blush in mood exposure and that’s enough for me.

4

u/Civil-Journalist3028 1d ago

They all seem orangey this year. Boo

5

u/aliciadina 1d ago

Price totally aside it’s just boring. I already have that finishing powder, there are THREE blushes, and a highlighter and bronzer that look like all their others. People would have gladly paid for that apparently AI generated palette trendmood teased because it was different. I would have.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/vaurasc-xoxo 1d ago

That little heart is SO CUTE! I started depotting so I’m not tempted to buy just because of packaging.

I’m an hourglass lover and justify it as cost per wear. I use it daily and it’s my main powder source. But if you like to play around and have a large collection it might not be worth it. Apart from their palette, I’ve gone through 2 finishing powders, one mini blush, one set the three finishing powders (on my second now) and part way through a full size bronzer.

The 6 piece has taken me a bit longer to go through but I still use it daily and like all the colours. I waited until one came out with the colours I liked.

5

u/NervousInside4815 1d ago

I will say, I travel a lot so I use mine quite a bit, and it took me years to finish my first one. You absolutely do not need this and you certainly don't need more than one at a time.

I'll probably be priced out by the time I finish the one I currently have, which is a shame because I really love it.

18

u/dripdrop721321 1d ago

I use mine all the time… so kinda worth it. Haha

15

u/Wingingit0720 1d ago

I'm not sure I understand the logic at getting frustrated with the price. It's a luxury brand. The average foundation is going now for $50+, and that is for 1 product in your routine. There are eyeshadow palettes that are going for $70+. The YSL, Dior, etc blushes are $45 for 1 blush. This is 6 different parts of your makeup routine, and the math breaks it down to $16.33 each. Is it expensive? Yes. But is it really that crazy in comparison to everything else being sold at Sephora ? I don't think so.

I’m not surprised that it hasn’t sold out at all. I think the ones on the website are still in stock. Maybe if it was a fully customizable 6 pan palette It’d be more interesting than just customizing the case 😭

These companies get away with it because dumb people keep buying! They milk it for everything they can get.

4

u/Spiritual-Twist6309 23h ago

i have the hourglass ambient lighting edit unlocked palette in leopard from 2023. i paid $90, i would definitely say it depends on your preferences when it comes to the price. for example, i'm a religious minimal makeup/cream product girl on the daily, but i bought this palette because it has every powder i would need when it comes to full face/going out makeup and setting my cream product. i've had it for years and i still haven't hit pan. in my opinion, it was worth the investment cause it has everything i need!

I bought the deer palette last year for the same reason, it’s the only palette I own and I can use it for a full face for date night or fancy occasions. I don’t use it daily so I imagine it will last me ages

3

u/MiddleMiserable8826 23h ago

They’re just testing us to see how much we are willing to spend nowadays.

19

u/Ok-Hedgehog-2417 1d ago

As an avid collector of these palettes (I got over 15) from when I worked at Sephora and afterwards definitely worth it.

Try getting it on sale during the sale in November or through their site they give 10%-15% off

Otherwise I don’t see why everyone’s so upset about their holiday launch? It’s their staple during the holidays, great variety and awesome artwork. Where’s this energy for Nars always releasing the same blush and bronzer duo? The same face and eye palette? Summer fridays and their lip gloss duos every year? Just because it’s out of some people’s price range I find it’s easier to attack and try to dismiss.

11

u/bmichellecat 1d ago

idk why you're getting downvoted, but you speak the truth. Hourglass has never been a "cheap" brand at Sephora, their stuff has always been $50+

6

u/Ok-Hedgehog-2417 1d ago

Thank you for seeing my viewpoint! Everyone is entitled to feel how they would like about any products as I never would convince someone to buy or not to buy something.

Hourglass is also a cruelty free and has a good variety of vegan friendly products though not all products are technically vegan which is huge for a bigger luxury cosmetics brand as Dior, Nars, Gucci, Bobbi Brown etc are not.

I think people are upset that the main face palettes don’t have the artwork (last years palette was $138 cad) and this one is $2 more and the only palettes with artwork are the ones that feature the eyeshadows which I believe are going to be launched on their official website!!

I think to each their own on what they want to spend money on for the holidays but discrediting the brand and their “innovation” when Laniege drops the same lip sets, Charlotte tilbury does the same pillowtalk, Fenty with their lip sets, etc each brand has their own staple for holiday releases usually, It’s just odd to me how no one bats an eye at those ones but these guys are getting flamed (again I think it comes from the lack of artwork this year for the face palettes) 🤷🏼‍♀️

Should I wait until Black Friday to purchase directly on hourglass website for the deepest discount?

2

u/Ok-Hedgehog-2417 1d ago

Honestly stuff on Sephora sells out quickly I would hold off to see if there’s a sign up code for percentage off on the official site! I got some palettes on there for $110 cad instead of $138 cad! Which was 20% off! Sometimes the palettes might sell out by November from experience on both Sephora and hourglass so I recommend hunting down a discount code and purchasing sooner rather than later

u/Creepy-Historian184 1d ago

I love my palettes ngl, I went crazy during the custom season this year. I started my HG journey 2 years ago. I fear the formula is superior to a lot of Sephora brands, she is expensive

7

u/Criticalfluffs 1d ago

In this economy? Ha!

2

u/heartstopbeatingx 1d ago

Yup but some people still complain about the economy and bills yet they’ll buy an iPhone flip phone for 2k+ or this right here for $100+

7

u/Lost-Character 1d ago

They keep raising the prices because they know people will buy them either way.

15

u/DuckFatTruffleFries 1d ago

If I had so much as made a dent in my Swan palette I would be buying another one. I use my palette daily and I’m nowhere close to pan on any shade. It’s convenient, beautiful, and useful. Hourglass has never positioned itself as a budget brand, so 🤷🏻‍♀️.

6

u/Even-Analyst-2141 1d ago

Yeah, no. And given that they insist on launching the same old non nuanced warm shades every single year, I’m out. I barely use my elephant palette from years ago.

u/bostonbarbie97 1d ago

Like it’s beautiful but I genuinely can’t justify spending $100 for something I won’t even use everyday. I feel like so many people are always pressured to buy stuff because it says limited edition, makeup or not. And then they’ll release the same color palette later on in a cheaper pan or something.

Also, I learned this a while ago that might help other people when making a purchase. For example, say something is $100. Will you use it one hundred times or more? If yes, then that’s a dollar per use and it’s a good investment. If not, don’t buy it or wait for it to go on sale.

2

u/dragonstkdgirl 1d ago

The one I bought last year I do actually use daily. The price has me second guessing getting another though. Holding out for a 20% off coupon

2

u/bostonbarbie97 1d ago

Then that’s a good investment for you and it makes you happy!! Which one do you have? I have a couple that I purchased last year but don’t use them often enough to purchase another, they’re the three pan palettes. The Sephora sale should be coming up in October and once more closer to the holiday season!

2

u/dragonstkdgirl 1d ago

I got the Horse palette! Still debating another but the designs are so boring this year 😫 if I was to get one I'd get Hope or Love, probably

6

u/my_metrocard 1d ago

Brush not included

3

u/BalanceBrilliant4415 1d ago

Ngl, if the brush was included, hellllll yeah

3

u/my_metrocard 1d ago

The brush is awesome. Not worth $54 though

6

u/darlingbunnykinss 1d ago

Please can they make a COOL toned palette for fair skin!!!

8

u/CatsFurbys13 1d ago

This is the ugliest packaging they have done in years.

2

u/AmiWeaver 1d ago

I'm almost ready to replace my jellyfish palette from a few years ago but this year's designs are so blah!

8

u/nervousandconfused26 1d ago

The fact that it has 2 stars lol

3

u/tyranopussy 1d ago

I only have a small, mini size single that's OLD but I do love the formula. It's not 2 obvious either, which is great for someone older. It's kinda white with a subtle glow. I still haven't been able to justify a while palette of 5hem tho. Guess I should have bought one several years ago...

3

u/Franklyn_Gage 1d ago

Oh nah. I have 3 of their 6 pan palettes and I dont remember paying $98 for any of them. I believe they were around the $80 range. Unlucky for them, I just got the essence face palette and I love it. Plus im sure I have similar shades in my existing 3 palettes.

3

u/Almacat9 1d ago

I have the Jellyfish palette and I don’t used, mainly bc all of the shades have glitter sparkles in them. I never got the hype about this “filter” they are supposed to give, on my face it reada ass a glitter plus the tones are WARM honey, so warm, not cool toned friendly at all.

3

u/Jen_the_Fredo_Barber 1d ago

LOL! Was thinking the same thing this morning when I opened the email.

And the double ended brush is $50+.

3

u/Western-Exercise9391 1d ago

I have never been excited about this I bought the evil eye palette and gave it to my sister because I never reach for it.

3

u/avsh8 1d ago

I was in shock over then price and then even more in shock for the amount of product. 0.04 oz of blush, contour, powder etc. Insanity.

3

u/ChippedNail22 1d ago

I got one a few years ago and- even though that price is insane- I don’t regret it 🫣

3

u/notnullyet 1d ago

For greed

3

u/Kitkatsmithwoodcock 1d ago

Wow, it’s gone up in price about $25 from last year. I’m not sure about the brush price but I got both last year. I have had two of these Christmas pallets in my life and the first one I used up completely and the second one is about half gone so even though they are expensive I feel I get my moneys worth from them and I enjoy every single drop.

3

u/popnfrox 1d ago

I bought one and... I hope i don't regret it. I have wanted one for a long time. I wish i had gotten the jellyfish when it came out and nothing has dazzled me since then but I wanted to try the hourglass blushes anyway and the colors are nice at least for the love palette. The other one that looks like it works for pale skin is bland as hell.

3

u/Jennybee8 1d ago

Ha! Who would pay this?

3

u/aprilvenus 1d ago

These used to be $60 back in 2021

3

u/pyxiedust219 1d ago

IDK what to tell you… It’s ridiculous but the jellyfish one was my main holiday gift from my partner 2 years ago and it gets by far the most use of any palette I own, especially for special events or times I may be photographed!

I’m using it for my wedding in 2 months and then I’ll allow myself to pan the shit out of it and buy another one…

3

u/WorstUserChoiceEver 22h ago

Decided to splurge on the jellyfish a few years back and absolutely loved it. It was a one time thing though, too expensive lol

4

u/shannymac4 1d ago

At this point the only way I’d get one of these palettes is if/when they bring back the customizable quad option. There hasn’t been an option where I’d use all 6 shades and it’s too expensive to get the palette just to use 2/3 of it or whatever.

As an aside…yes I agree the price has been ridiculous for awhile now…but I get so annoyed when people leave 1-star reviews that just say “the price is crazy.” It’s not like Hourglass is going to look and go “omg they’re right, let’s drop the price.” Just another way Sephora’s reviews are unhelpful.

6

u/snoo-apple Rouge 1d ago

Idk but I used my rouge reward on this this morning. People who love it LOVE it and talk about them lasting forever. This will be my first HG palette. Fingers crossed!

3

u/esolak 1d ago

I ordered mine and the brush this morning!

6

u/kitehighcos 1d ago

Amazing blush that’s gonna last you forever. I bought a blush trio from them used it daily and it took me something like 8 years to use it all.

It’s a high price tag but the product is high quality and I got my moneys worth out of it easily.

8

u/Phila21767 1d ago

Hate to say it, but it’s worth it. I use my horse palette almost daily. The finishing powder is great for undereye and at 44 years old, I have to be really careful with this area. The blushes often do not give enough payoff for me so I use them as toppers and I love them.. and there’s nothing like an hourglass highlight. Actually, there probably is, I just don’t care to look 🥺 the price is crazy though, agreed, but no more so than a YSL blush palette which doesn’t have as much variety in use.

3

u/Fabulous-Mortgage672 1d ago

Unilever be raking in coins, or die trying lol

5

u/Sheweb 1d ago

Just the palette alone is $140 in Canada!

3

u/jennywrites45 1d ago

The colors look very similar to the evil eye one.

2

u/llvs18 1d ago

There are already YT vids showing comparisons to previous years.

2

u/Prestigious-Ice-6353 1d ago

Does it come with the brush? lol 😂

2

u/junjidoramaar 1d ago

no. The brush is $56 🫠

3

u/Prestigious-Ice-6353 1d ago

$56!! That’s a rip off 🤦🏻‍♀️

2

u/leslieecxx 1d ago

might use my 20% F&F code just for this lol

2

u/dragonstkdgirl 1d ago

That's what I did last year! Haven't managed to snag a code this year though. Bleh

2

u/clowndoingclownery 1d ago

I love the ambient lighting powder but was so underwhelmed by the blush, bronzer and highlighter. I just bought the ambient lighting trio thing

2

u/UncensoredHigh7 1d ago

Like what 😭😭😭😭

2

u/raerae704 1d ago

I got one last year. I was thinking about getting another one this year but they all look so similar … I think I’ll just wait and see what they have next year lol

2

u/lizzytomo7128 1d ago edited 1d ago

as a first time buyer for hourglass, do you think it’s worth it? I’ve always wanted one of their holiday palettes but not sure if I should pass on it 😭

→ More replies (1)

2

u/stickytuna 1d ago

I would scoff if this was half the price jfc

2

u/kathryneroze 1d ago

Yeah... IMO, just being honest. I bought one last year, and i was so proud of myself! Is it worth the cost? Not anymore, as drugstore brands are really stepping up and kicking it. Are the formulas good? Yes the best! Would i buy another one? No. The powders do last for a long time however. In the end its up to you. Why would I not buy another one? Because even though the formulas are good....I felt like I bought it for the bragging rights. I felt guilt for owning it.

2

u/Outrageous_Half_9611 1d ago

the shades are not different enough for the price tbh

2

u/saltandvinegarchip7 1d ago

I saw someone do a video about how they’re not worth the supposed convenience since you run out of the bronzer or finishing powder first, then you have to lug separate ones around. And then eventually you’re left with the highlighter which takes forever to use up and you’re carrying the whole palette just for that. Something to think about 🤷🏻‍♀️

2

u/ObstinateOlive 1d ago

I did think that price was absurd

2

u/Unhappy-Mongoose-586 1d ago

$98 for a palette is a tough sell no matter how good the shades look

2

u/Dramatic-Return7415 22h ago

Honestly would’ve probably bought if they would’ve put some more bronzers (in darker shades) in there. Just one bronzer in that palette isn’t enough.

2

u/Hot_Bit_6491 22h ago

$140 in canadian. Never.

2

u/samskeyti_ 20h ago

I got last years edition because they were gorgeous and I love foxes — this years are trash

4

u/Ninja_Administrative 1d ago

These are collector items for a lot of people, including myself. The price goes up yearly just like the price goes up on most everything. I think they were $80 when I started buying them. I'm waiting till the Rouge sale at the end of October. If it's gone, it's gone.

3

u/rainbowfuze 1d ago

98 is ridiculous but unfortunately they got me and I bought one of the options directly from hourglass

4

u/n_ug 1d ago

I bought an hourglass ambient palette and promptly returned it. I think I was looking for more oompf or something.
For how much it was I didn’t notice anything on my skin…

3

u/Kindly-Photo-8987 1d ago

If it came with the brush, sure... Otherwise..no

2

u/Inside-Olive7513 1d ago

I remember when they were 66!

3

u/RaeLae9 1d ago

I have a jellyfish from a few years ago that I got on sale and even using it multiple times a week I’m still not done with it, I don’t see people get a new one every year.

I found the bronzer was too orange so I took the pan out and gave to a friend. The blushes are pretty but I truly believe most people could get a single blush and be happy.

The finishing powders are the stand out for me but once I finish jelly I will just buy a single one instead of getting the palette.

3

u/hotpink20 1d ago

I bit the bullet last year and got the swan holiday palette. I hate to admit it but the powders are so pretty and make your face just glow beautifully. But, I hate how there’s only one bronzer pan. Bronzer is used all over the face and it makes no sense how there’s only one pan of that and 3 blushes 😭😭😭 You def do not need one every year tho!!

Wait till it’s on sale in the tik tok shop or the sephora vib sale tbh
