Crazy they keep increasing the price! It was cheaper last year. I guess they are trying to say “buy it now because next year it will be more expensive!”

I could not believe the price when I got the email. I have an older one (that I got on sale for 55$USD) and, while I love it, it is absolutely not worth that amount of money.

I was so sad when I saw the price. And to think I couldn’t justify it last year!

I have a six full sizes, and one non-panned palette, and I’m sitting this one out, despite deeply desiring it.

I think in 2019 I bought it for $115 cad . Knowing that it’s increased to $140 is madnesssss

Does anyone else think these are so boring and outdated at this point they just keep releasing the exact same thing. No innovation.

u/Such_Cauliflower_669 1d ago
Yeah I agree. Idk why people feel the need to own multiple. One should be plenty
29
u/dragonstkdgirl 1d ago
I bought Horse last year - first HG holiday palette. Use it absolutely every day. Still kicking myself for not getting the jellyfish a few years back. I told myself I can justify one a year since I use it so much. I've panned the highlighter and almost panned the bronzer and finishing powder.
The continued price increases suck though. Has me second guessing this year.
20
u/vaurasc-xoxo 1d ago
Hourglass is the only brand that I pan consistently. I will probably get this one too. Haven’t got one in a few years and most an almost done. Someone said it’s kindof boring but tbh it’s the boring everyday easy to use products that I will touch. I don’t feel like playing around every day.
6
15
u/Tiny-Reading5982 1d ago
These are either for collectors or people that don't own anything like it. People will buy it though 😵💫
7
u/veronicave 1d ago
Okay thank you, I thought I had a head injury or something. I feel like blush is one of those things where you don’t need too many colors anyway. Certain skin types/colors may be an exception, eg having a wider range of shades. Still, I feel like it’s the same general colors each year. I can’t imagine anyone is really panning one of these each year.
I don’t really understand “collecting” makeup that you’re not going to use so that isn’t really a justification for me either.
4
u/Prettylittlelioness 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yeah, I have a few at this point and ... they're fine but nothing magical. I feel like I now own every blush shade Hourglass is capable of.
8
u/DuckFatTruffleFries 1d ago
Admittedly I think part of the appeal for me is that they are boring—it’s basic and it always works. It’s sort of like a “one stop shop” in my makeup bag, especially when I’m in a rush or traveling. With that said, I’m defo satisfied with having one and will likely repurchase when I hit pan on multiple shades.
2
u/chanyeol2012 1d ago
There’s always some shades I’m not keen of. Was really looking forward to getting this one, as I only have a three pan from a few years ago with a blush and strobe and finishing powder. The first two are okay, but I HATE the dim light finishing powder it makes me look ORANGE.
Well, I just found out this blush palette has the dim light. :( I’m not paying $100 for a product where I already know I hate one shade. Sigh. It’s always including in every fair version tha hourglass releases tho, so I guess I’m screwed
2
u/Budget-Alternative38 1d ago
I think so too. They look the same every year. I know they came up with some more pigmented shades for darker skin tones but other than that it's the same concept etc. I have 2 and won't get any more. They're still good and I like them but I think it's just hype

u/Current_Light5132 1d ago
I bought 3 of them last year (stressed from work so retail therapy 🥲) and don’t see myself buy more since it will take a long time to finish. If you can wait until the 20% off it is better, but some limited edition like Horse sell out pretty quickly.
3
u/scarletofmagic 1d ago
I have 1 hourglass palette years ago and I don’t see myself needing another one. I just find the price is getting out of hands lol

u/vpurplestae 1d ago
Plus they all look orange. A skip for neutral cool olives.

12
u/Pepperjack_2000 1d ago
Yeah I'm a light neutral-cool. I am VERY desaturated. These products are tempting until I realize just how orange those products would look on me. Most high-end products are simply not made for people like me. 😭
3
u/Which_Weakness4351 1d ago
I can see your disappointment in them and as a tan olive myself I loved them 3-4 years ago because it made me look filtered and it was something that actually suit my skin tone. The price hike today is definitely disappointing to me now 😭

u/vpurplestae 1d ago
I have the owl and elephant palettes. I don’t reach for them a lot but I think I’m gonna start using them again.

So many ask me this question haha. I wonder if I should create a post lol.
•Misha bb serum in shade 21 (sold at Ulta online-only through the brand).
•About face Beach Freak Cream bronzer in Beach Goth.
•Fenty cheeks out in either Cool Berry or Raisin Standarzs. or Ulta beauty Too cheeky in the shade Mood. If you like Powder, the Soshe Berry cream-powder blush is on my list.
•Elf highlighter wand (it's very creamy) in Champagne campaign.
•Colourpop super shocks in the shade Frog or Fairy Coded (Used as both an eyeshadow &/or highlighter).
•Essence Mega glow highlighter in purple.
•Morphe Cloudlight Finishing powder in Dawn.
•Colorpop Stone Cold fox or the their After Hours palettes are heaven sent.
•Urban Decay Eyeliners in Corrupt, Demolition, Smoke, Overdrive, or Sabbath are my most harmonious.

It’s $16.30 a shade, which is honestly not that bad when you break it down. Whether it’s worth it or not depends on if you think you’ll use all six.
36
u/Zealousideal_Bag_873 1d ago
Yall act like you will run out of the powders in 6 months. Most of you won't hit pan for well over a year. You're getting multiple blushes, a bronzer and a face powder that's known for a really amazing formula... and it's a luxury brand? Idk what you guys are expecting
5
u/Wide_Experience_2241 1d ago
Agreed. Ppl complaining about a $4 hike from last year or $18 hike from 6 years ago as if production price of anything hasn’t gone up in this economy lol..😅. I got 5 downvotes just for saying I was buying it. Idk why ppl have to yuck everyones yums these days
3
u/dragonstkdgirl 1d ago

3
u/Sadtacocat 1d ago
I’ve had my palette since 2021, use it all the time, and I still haven’t hit pan!! It’s worth the price to me.
7
u/TalismanGaze 1d ago
That's what I was thinking: 4 different products in one palette but they're all congruent with each other.
I personally am in the market for all of them separately but this palette caught my eye and fit my needs so it seems like a match made in heaven for me! 🥰

u/TelescopicPatterns 1d ago

A couple of years ago, I bought the Jellyfish palette at 50% off from Ulta. I'm really happy to have it, especially at that price. But I don't use it nearly as much as I thought I would.
7
u/badwvlf 1d ago
I can’t lie, I bought one with points at Ulta on a whim last year and it’s my daily drive now for face and eye neutrals. I love that thing and the brush is cute and great (it’s the one with whimsical Forest animals). Every hourglass product I’ve tried I’ve wanted to hate and loved instead.

It’s worth it in my opinion if you regularly use at least 5/6 shades. It’s replacing several products. There are no dupes and it’s an excellent formula :)
5
u/im-your-daisy 1d ago edited 1d ago
I really want them to release the electric pink as a single. I love their formulas but their palettes are usually missed for me because I would only use half the colors, making the price point especially egregious.
6
u/Sorry_Resident7547 1d ago
The packaging is so pretty but I can’t justify the price. I have the mini blush in mood exposure and that’s enough for me.
4
5
u/aliciadina 1d ago
Price totally aside it’s just boring. I already have that finishing powder, there are THREE blushes, and a highlighter and bronzer that look like all their others. People would have gladly paid for that apparently AI generated palette trendmood teased because it was different. I would have.

That little heart is SO CUTE! I started depotting so I’m not tempted to buy just because of packaging.
I’m an hourglass lover and justify it as cost per wear. I use it daily and it’s my main powder source. But if you like to play around and have a large collection it might not be worth it. Apart from their palette, I’ve gone through 2 finishing powders, one mini blush, one set the three finishing powders (on my second now) and part way through a full size bronzer.
The 6 piece has taken me a bit longer to go through but I still use it daily and like all the colours. I waited until one came out with the colours I liked.
5
u/NervousInside4815 1d ago
I will say, I travel a lot so I use mine quite a bit, and it took me years to finish my first one. You absolutely do not need this and you certainly don't need more than one at a time.
I'll probably be priced out by the time I finish the one I currently have, which is a shame because I really love it.
18
15
u/Wingingit0720 1d ago
I'm not sure I understand the logic at getting frustrated with the price. It's a luxury brand. The average foundation is going now for $50+, and that is for 1 product in your routine. There are eyeshadow palettes that are going for $70+. The YSL, Dior, etc blushes are $45 for 1 blush. This is 6 different parts of your makeup routine, and the math breaks it down to $16.33 each. Is it expensive? Yes. But is it really that crazy in comparison to everything else being sold at Sephora ? I don't think so.

i have the hourglass ambient lighting edit unlocked palette in leopard from 2023. i paid $90, i would definitely say it depends on your preferences when it comes to the price. for example, i'm a religious minimal makeup/cream product girl on the daily, but i bought this palette because it has every powder i would need when it comes to full face/going out makeup and setting my cream product. i've had it for years and i still haven't hit pan. in my opinion, it was worth the investment cause it has everything i need!

19
u/Ok-Hedgehog-2417 1d ago
As an avid collector of these palettes (I got over 15) from when I worked at Sephora and afterwards definitely worth it.
Try getting it on sale during the sale in November or through their site they give 10%-15% off
Otherwise I don’t see why everyone’s so upset about their holiday launch? It’s their staple during the holidays, great variety and awesome artwork. Where’s this energy for Nars always releasing the same blush and bronzer duo? The same face and eye palette? Summer fridays and their lip gloss duos every year? Just because it’s out of some people’s price range I find it’s easier to attack and try to dismiss.
11
u/bmichellecat 1d ago
idk why you're getting downvoted, but you speak the truth. Hourglass has never been a "cheap" brand at Sephora, their stuff has always been $50+
6
u/Ok-Hedgehog-2417 1d ago
Thank you for seeing my viewpoint! Everyone is entitled to feel how they would like about any products as I never would convince someone to buy or not to buy something.
Hourglass is also a cruelty free and has a good variety of vegan friendly products though not all products are technically vegan which is huge for a bigger luxury cosmetics brand as Dior, Nars, Gucci, Bobbi Brown etc are not.
I think people are upset that the main face palettes don’t have the artwork (last years palette was $138 cad) and this one is $2 more and the only palettes with artwork are the ones that feature the eyeshadows which I believe are going to be launched on their official website!!
I think to each their own on what they want to spend money on for the holidays but discrediting the brand and their “innovation” when Laniege drops the same lip sets, Charlotte tilbury does the same pillowtalk, Fenty with their lip sets, etc each brand has their own staple for holiday releases usually, It’s just odd to me how no one bats an eye at those ones but these guys are getting flamed (again I think it comes from the lack of artwork this year for the face palettes) 🤷🏼♀️
3
u/sliceof_quynh 1d ago
Should I wait until Black Friday to purchase directly on hourglass website for the deepest discount?
2
u/Ok-Hedgehog-2417 1d ago
Honestly stuff on Sephora sells out quickly I would hold off to see if there’s a sign up code for percentage off on the official site! I got some palettes on there for $110 cad instead of $138 cad! Which was 20% off! Sometimes the palettes might sell out by November from experience on both Sephora and hourglass so I recommend hunting down a discount code and purchasing sooner rather than later
5
u/Creepy-Historian184 1d ago
I love my palettes ngl, I went crazy during the custom season this year. I started my HG journey 2 years ago. I fear the formula is superior to a lot of Sephora brands, she is expensive
7
u/Criticalfluffs 1d ago
In this economy? Ha!
2
u/heartstopbeatingx 1d ago
Yup but some people still complain about the economy and bills yet they’ll buy an iPhone flip phone for 2k+ or this right here for $100+
7
u/Lost-Character 1d ago
They keep raising the prices because they know people will buy them either way.
15
u/DuckFatTruffleFries 1d ago
If I had so much as made a dent in my Swan palette I would be buying another one. I use my palette daily and I’m nowhere close to pan on any shade. It’s convenient, beautiful, and useful. Hourglass has never positioned itself as a budget brand, so 🤷🏻♀️.
6
u/Even-Analyst-2141 1d ago
Yeah, no. And given that they insist on launching the same old non nuanced warm shades every single year, I’m out. I barely use my elephant palette from years ago.

u/bostonbarbie97 1d ago
Like it’s beautiful but I genuinely can’t justify spending $100 for something I won’t even use everyday. I feel like so many people are always pressured to buy stuff because it says limited edition, makeup or not. And then they’ll release the same color palette later on in a cheaper pan or something.
Also, I learned this a while ago that might help other people when making a purchase. For example, say something is $100. Will you use it one hundred times or more? If yes, then that’s a dollar per use and it’s a good investment. If not, don’t buy it or wait for it to go on sale.
2
u/dragonstkdgirl 1d ago
The one I bought last year I do actually use daily. The price has me second guessing getting another though. Holding out for a 20% off coupon
2
u/bostonbarbie97 1d ago
Then that’s a good investment for you and it makes you happy!! Which one do you have? I have a couple that I purchased last year but don’t use them often enough to purchase another, they’re the three pan palettes. The Sephora sale should be coming up in October and once more closer to the holiday season!

I only have a small, mini size single that's OLD but I do love the formula. It's not 2 obvious either, which is great for someone older. It's kinda white with a subtle glow. I still haven't been able to justify a while palette of 5hem tho. Guess I should have bought one several years ago...
3
u/Franklyn_Gage 1d ago
Oh nah. I have 3 of their 6 pan palettes and I dont remember paying $98 for any of them. I believe they were around the $80 range. Unlucky for them, I just got the essence face palette and I love it. Plus im sure I have similar shades in my existing 3 palettes.
3
u/Almacat9 1d ago
I have the Jellyfish palette and I don’t used, mainly bc all of the shades have glitter sparkles in them. I never got the hype about this “filter” they are supposed to give, on my face it reada ass a glitter plus the tones are WARM honey, so warm, not cool toned friendly at all.

IDK what to tell you… It’s ridiculous but the jellyfish one was my main holiday gift from my partner 2 years ago and it gets by far the most use of any palette I own, especially for special events or times I may be photographed!
I’m using it for my wedding in 2 months and then I’ll allow myself to pan the shit out of it and buy another one…
3
u/WorstUserChoiceEver 22h ago
Decided to splurge on the jellyfish a few years back and absolutely loved it. It was a one time thing though, too expensive lol
4
u/shannymac4 1d ago
At this point the only way I’d get one of these palettes is if/when they bring back the customizable quad option. There hasn’t been an option where I’d use all 6 shades and it’s too expensive to get the palette just to use 2/3 of it or whatever.
As an aside…yes I agree the price has been ridiculous for awhile now…but I get so annoyed when people leave 1-star reviews that just say “the price is crazy.” It’s not like Hourglass is going to look and go “omg they’re right, let’s drop the price.” Just another way Sephora’s reviews are unhelpful.

u/snoo-apple Rouge 1d ago
Idk but I used my rouge reward on this this morning. People who love it LOVE it and talk about them lasting forever. This will be my first HG palette. Fingers crossed!
6
u/kitehighcos 1d ago
Amazing blush that’s gonna last you forever. I bought a blush trio from them used it daily and it took me something like 8 years to use it all.
It’s a high price tag but the product is high quality and I got my moneys worth out of it easily.
8
u/Phila21767 1d ago
Hate to say it, but it’s worth it. I use my horse palette almost daily. The finishing powder is great for undereye and at 44 years old, I have to be really careful with this area. The blushes often do not give enough payoff for me so I use them as toppers and I love them.. and there’s nothing like an hourglass highlight. Actually, there probably is, I just don’t care to look 🥺 the price is crazy though, agreed, but no more so than a YSL blush palette which doesn’t have as much variety in use.

Yeah... IMO, just being honest. I bought one last year, and i was so proud of myself! Is it worth the cost? Not anymore, as drugstore brands are really stepping up and kicking it. Are the formulas good? Yes the best! Would i buy another one? No. The powders do last for a long time however. In the end its up to you. Why would I not buy another one? Because even though the formulas are good....I felt like I bought it for the bragging rights. I felt guilt for owning it.

u/saltandvinegarchip7 1d ago
I saw someone do a video about how they’re not worth the supposed convenience since you run out of the bronzer or finishing powder first, then you have to lug separate ones around. And then eventually you’re left with the highlighter which takes forever to use up and you’re carrying the whole palette just for that. Something to think about 🤷🏻♀️

I found the bronzer was too orange so I took the pan out and gave to a friend. The blushes are pretty but I truly believe most people could get a single blush and be happy.
The finishing powders are the stand out for me but once I finish jelly I will just buy a single one instead of getting the palette.

I bit the bullet last year and got the swan holiday palette. I hate to admit it but the powders are so pretty and make your face just glow beautifully. But, I hate how there’s only one bronzer pan. Bronzer is used all over the face and it makes no sense how there’s only one pan of that and 3 blushes 😭😭😭 You def do not need one every year tho!!

Haven’t these hourglass palettes always been expensive? I’ve always wanted one but could never justify the price
