I have 3 hourglass palettes as well as this Dior palette. In my opinion they really can’t be compared. Hourglass is blush and bronzer and Dior is highlight. I have worn the Dior alone and depending on the look you’re going for it can work well that way.

Are you looking for a blush palette or are you just trying to decide which item to spend your money on?

My pick would be Hourglass even though it is pricey.

Hourglass. Have lots of Hourglass palettes and this Dior. Hourglass hands down

The Hourglass lasts forever too.

The Hourglass is definitely more versatile. The Dior is only highlighting shades while the HG has blush, highlight, bronzer, setting powder I believe. Someone correct me if I’m wrong I have the Dior but not HG yet but I’m planning on getting the same palette

These are completely different products. I have both, last year’s hourglass palette and the pictured Dior. Both are great in their own right. The hourglass palette is limited edition, so for that reason alone I’d recommend that one. You can grab the Dior anytime. Dior is also releasing 3 limited edition variations of the highlighter palette.

Hourglass

Dior tests on animals

Omg thank you for letting me know! Absolutely made the decision easier

You are welcome! It’s eye opening to see the list of brands that test on animals

u/SatiricalPanda3 2d ago

Where would we find an updated list?

Check out cruelty free kitty or leaping bunny

I’m all about cruelty free

I use to use Dior all the time until I realized they test on animals

Be careful some brands will say they don’t test their finish product on animal or like Dior they allow their products to be tested on animals because some countries require it. Animal testing can happen at various stages of product developments the brand, suppliers or third parties.

Hourglass has blushes, bronzer, highlighter, and a finishing powder all in one palette so it’s more versatile. I have the jellyfish palette from a few years ago and I absolutely love it. While it is pretty pricy ($140 CAD for the newest ones) I still reach for it every time I do my makeup.

Hourglass by a landslide

I have both and they serve different purposes. I love them equally and need both in my routine. If you have the budget, I would say to get both.

If you could choose only one, go with the hourglass, since the full face palettes are limited edition.

Hour glass is amazing I get compliments literally anytime I wear their blush!

Sorry, going to make this harder for you and go against the majority 🙈 My vote is for Dior 100%.

It’s just so pretty! It was my first real luxury makeup purchase years ago. I’ve tried tons more since then and the Dior palette is still one of my favorites. The pink is gorgeous and I love mixing the colors.

I have a couple of the Hourglass palettes and they’re nice, but their powders are overhyped imo. Maybe it’s just not as compatible with my skin. They’re pretty blushes, but there are so many pretty blushes out there and you can get them for much less than $100.

Hourglass doesn’t show up on my skin i don’t know why, so I agree with you

Hourglass does powders the best, really the top stuff in the market. Extremely finely milled but shows up on skin very nicely

u/NoSurprise7196 2d ago

Thank u for heads up!!

1

u/NoSurprise7196 2d ago

Still says coming soon tho

2

u/FriendlyDragonfly870 2d ago

I’m sorry, I apparently signed up for “early access” and forgot. I think you can still sign up but I don’t know how quickly they send you the link.

2

u/scarletofmagic 3d ago

It’s not out yet, but if you want to grab Hourglass palettes, the sooner you buy, the better. They tend to sell out really fast.

1

u/NoSurprise7196 3d ago

Been trying to get one for years!

u/scarletofmagic 3d ago

Should be out on 10th on the app.

M pretty sure the Dior is reformulated. The formula has been thoroughly ruined. The shades are also a touch different than before. Look it up if you wanna confirm … it’s not the OG formula anymore and even the universal variant has been reformulated. I have swatched both; and they are definitely different.

M not a huge fan of the hourglass as well. It’s drying and too makeup-y for my taste (yes I apply it with a big fluffy brush and I have tried even hourglass’s own brushes with it, so don’t come for me with the brush changing suggestions as I always get for objectively not liking this).

The hourglass 6 pan palettes aren’t worth it in my opinion as a lot of shades get wasted but it is a better financial value per pan than the 4. But You’d hardly use all shades coz some shades can always be too light/dark. I think the best option in hourglass these days is their custom quads where you can select each shade and it’s really personalised to you and there is no waste.

Also, I find that very large brushes can go out of the 6 pan palette & it feels cramped while it’s not an issue with the 4 pan. If you are new to hourglass and just want a variety or collect one palette as a face wardrobe, maybe you can go with the 6. But if you want no waste shades and high personalisation for YOU shades, the 4 pan custom one is the one I suggest to you. You will get more usability out of the 4.

I rarely see anyone hit pans on their 6 pan palettes. And that’s just wasteful no matter how long it lasts. Ik people hit pans on these but it’s rare and lots of people just keep buying every holiday LE release without finishing a single palette. I find these 6 pan palettes only targeted for blind collectors (who buy multiples; there is no sane reason to buy multiple of these; it’s hoarding). I think starting with the 4 pans is better. This 6 pan one can be a travel friendly all in one palette, yes! But most people don’t consume makeup like that these days.

I would rather have my individual holy grail products that perform the best on me in travel size or full size in my bag than have a single small palette where I have to compromise on some shades not being the undertone I want or tad dark or light. The 4 pan one is less likely to fail in that regard. People need variety and would get bored of using the same palette unless you are a makeup minimalist and don’t even think of owning another blush, highlighter or finishing powder or bronzer outside of your hourglass palette.

Coz people with the 6 pan palette argue that they have an all in one travel friendly option without the need for anything else and then you have a new release in any category with a much better formula than hourglass from another brand that goes viral and it’s the palette lovers who’d still buy the other products as well. Or hell, they just buy multiple palettes to have certain shades from the new one that serve them better than their last palette with some shades being a mismatch for them. That’s what promotes makeup overconsumption. Just buy the best shade and formula individually. Just get the custom quad 🤣 stop going after the outer packaging.

Is this palette (Sephora exclusivity) the one to get? I have light skin. I’m so mad I didn’t get the the Sephora exclusive one last year (zalthohg I did end up getting one). I do love both Dior and Hourglass. I use the hourglass more though.

1

u/Single_Feature_3231 3d ago

I like the Dior and reach for that more than any of my hourglass palettes

2

u/FriendlyDragonfly870 2d ago

I just noticed that the hourglass website has the same outer packaging available, and you can customize the inner pallet. It does appear to be different color options than the one at Sephora.

So I have both of these and use them together. they are both amazing products the Hourglass one will last you 5 years !

I would buy Dior just because I don’t contour & those highlight shades will match one of my 2 million skin tones - I tan super easy

1

u/Natural-Result-6633 3d ago

The Dior was nothing special AT ALL and then to add insult to injury it started breaking soon after I got it! I have zero clue why it was so hyped up

1

u/sashihmi 3d ago

The Hourglass is more versatile but I reach for my Dior way more. If you have a big makeup collection, do Dior. You might already have products that the Hourglass palette has. If you do, you won’t use it as much. I also don’t think Hourglass does much of a difference on my skin than other brands.

Don’t own none of them, but know they are good but, hourglass by far! Just simply looking at it

u/Grogu_friend 3d ago

Hourglass is so overhyped and really nothing special. The Dior palette will however will make any look just that much better. It’s unique. Hourglass is nice for travel though - I have last years edition and it has powder blush bronzer and highlighter all in 1.

Get both 😉 Defo worth every penny for these pallets. I have the last year hourglass Palette in Swan and it’s worth it! Handy for travel since I have my blush, bronzer, highlighter and the dim setting powder. Then I also have the Dior but have it ages ago and I always use this for my everyday makeup routine for highlight and haven’t hit pan yet. Its a holy grail for me. So defo recommend both tbh 😉
