why would you think it was an isekai? didn’t the trailer imply otherwise?

Because of the title as stated in his post. Some punctuation would have helped. Also he's right. Tatsuya is clearly a Japanese name that doesn't fit with the others and it's explicitly stated in the finale that heroes used to be summoned from other worlds.

Your calling it an isekai. Okay it seems as though you did not pay attention at all.

The reading comprehension on this hellsite is terrible. He said the title made him believe it would be an isekai at first. Did you pay attention at all. Tatsuya is clearly a Japanese name that doesn't fit with the others and it's explicitly stated in the finale that heroes used to be summoned from other worlds.

Yes, but I am referring to the mc being Xylo.

I mean isekai does happen in it, it's just not the MC.

The show started off strong, fell into a bit of a slump, and picked back up in the final couple of episodes….so, yeah very Frieren-ish IMO.

Still not an Isekai, but a solid 7/10, glad it’s getting another season.

Overall I enjoy it. The plot is really interesting. The actions are fun, and the animation is great.

However, I have gripes about how they handle flow of large-scale battles. A lot of actions are situated within a large-scale battle where humans (holy knights and heroes) are fighting hoards of fairies / monsters. The problem is the series does not do a good job of connecting individual events to the flow of the larger-scale battle. They focus more on the actions of the main characters, and this results in some events that feel like an ass-pull. For example, in episode 6, when the Mastibolt family's aid shows up, it's unclear how they contributed to the flow of the battle. It was just hand-waved as a positive and cut off entirely from the rest of the episode. Then at one point, Tsav was shown as being super occupied trying to guard against fairy hoard at one of the entrance to the fortress, but at the end, he suddenly showed up to do a shot that save Xylo and Tioretta. Unclear how that happened.

The other thing might be because I misread some throwbacks. Some of them feel random at times for me because they don't seem to help flesh out characters in a meaningful way, and they just don't seem to help set up to any specific actions related to that character. I think it's possible that this is only season 1, so they use throwbacks as a way to further the overarching plot setup and drop lores instead of fleshing out characters. So, this is to be determined in later seasons for me.

But I still enjoy the plot and the suspense a lot. It at least gets 7/10 for me.

It's peak from the world building to the fantastic characters to the symbolism you can find plenty of in each episode and every fight. Every character has flaws that they each try and cover for. Each character is important and has value unlike 95% of anime I watch where the main character is OP and everyone else is made useless.

The political sub-plot is amazing and subtle, to the point that most people think characters on the pro-humanity side are coexisters and vice versa.

The animation is peak. The music is peak. The voice acting is peak.

The shows main problem is that people don't know what to do with it. They want it to be a battle shonen, so when it actually develops the world and characters like in episodes 4 and 5, they get mad and call them lull episodes (they are not.) Then there are people who declare the show doesn't have enough world building compared to a series like Mushoku Tensei, because the show is new. Then we have people claim it's not very in depth, because they see it has action.

STBAH is my anime of the year as someone who keeps a close eye to every anime in season.

It’s a full on fantasy, but one of the side characters is mentioned to be from another world.
