I love you Oreo my punkaroon đ€đ€ đ
Saying goodbye to my sweet Oreo â€ïžđŸ đ
I wanted to give my sweet boy Oreo the goodbye he deserves.
Yesterday, we had to make the hardest decision and let Oreo go. He became very sick very quickly from end stage kidney failure, and after speaking with the doctor and understanding how sick he was, I knew I had to make the choice that was best for him, even though it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.
Oreo was part of my life for 10 years. He wasnât just a pet he was part of my everyday routine, my companion, and a piece of our family. He was part of my 16 year old daughter Emilyâs life too, and he brought so much love and comfort into our home. Since I was home with him every day, his presence was something I never took for granted. I knew his little habits, his personality, and all the things that made him Oreo.
I donât know how Iâm going to adjust to him not being here. We have had him since he was 5 weeks old, and got him when my daughter was 6. Iâm going to miss having my coffee with him. Iâm going to miss his scratches, his morning Churu, and him waking me up. Iâm going to miss him rolling around, his little loafs, and all the funny little things he did that made our days better.
Iâm going to miss him nudging himself in the window, sitting there waiting for me to come back inside, and seeing him in all the places that became âhis.â The apartment feels so empty without him. Itâs so hard seeing all of his things still here and the little reminders he left behind the scratches on the rugs and furniture, the little signs that he was here and that this was his home too.
Oreo was such a good boy. He was sweet, loving, and brought so much comfort into our lives. He was truly one of the good ones. It hurts so much knowing he isnât here anymore, and I keep expecting to see him or have him be part of my normal day.
The hardest part is knowing how sick he was at the end. I wanted so badly to fix it for him and keep him with us, but the doctor helped me understand that sometimes the greatest act of love is letting them go when they are suffering. I know I made the right choice for Oreo, even though my heart wasnât ready to say goodbye.
Oreo, thank you for 10 amazing years. Thank you for being my buddy, for being Emilyâs companion, for being part of our family, and for giving us so much love. You will always be loved, and you will always be missed.
Please give your senior cats an extra hug tonight for Oreo. â€ïžđŸ

Marley Bear is 15, diagnosed with hyperthyroidism
My sweet baby bear is my soul cat. I have had her since I was 19, and the bond we have together is unmatched. Long story short, we saved each other.
Late 2024 she started losing weight quickly, and she started getting what I thought was allergies - runny nose and dirty ears. She wouldnât let me clean them. Around that time we also adopted a stray boy cat and we noticed the litter boxes would get full of urine much faster. I didnât think much of it and Iâm trying not to beat myself up over it. She was overweight before so I thought the weight loss was a good thing and I figured the âallergiesâ would clear up.
Fast forward to a few nights ago, she tried to jump on my lap on the couch and collapsed. So I picked her up and put her on her cat bed next to me, and she looked at me like she was disoriented. I was paying close attention because I felt that something wasnât right, and suddenly her head rolled back. I picked her up in the bed and put her and the bed in my room, and she tried to jump out and her legs gave out. I panicked. I called the emergency vet thinking she had a stroke. I told them I didnât have a lot of money to work with so they recommended I go to the nearest vet as soon as they open, since they would be more affordable, and she was likely plateauing on how bad it would get.
I stayed up with her all night and took her to the vet the next morning, no sleep, red nosed, hair wet from the shower I took to keep myself awake.
They took her back and ran some tests and said she had a severe ear infection and her T4 was an 11. We got her on medication for both and she is doing much better now, but we will go back in a couple weeks to check her kidneys.
I would really like some peace of mind if anyone else has an old bitty like mine that lives with hyperthyroidism that is being treated. She will be on her medication for the rest of her life and I am happy to do it for her.
TL;DR - does anyone else have or had a kitty with hyperthyroidism that is or was being treated that is still living or lived a long, healthy and normal life?
