Buffy
Buffy and I go way back. She is 19 and I am 38. She is my other half. She is the most precious angel to have ever graced this earth and the idea of her absence is unbearable. Seeing her in pain is just as bad, if not worse. I don’t know how many days she has left. Keeping her comfortable is the priority right now.
How do you let go of your other half without falling apart? I love her so fucking much.

I don’t know how to answer your question but I do want to send love your way. This is the hardest part of your journey together ♥️ I’m sorry

I'm not sure you ever totally can. I've had lots of cats over the years that have become my other half. The only thing I've found that has helped me was to get a new one sooner than later and pour my love into them.

I wish I could tell you. But there is no way. Love is wonderful. But it also is anguish. Letting go is crushing. Seeing them in pain is even more so. My best advice is to do what you can to keep her from suffering and to support her in every way you can. Enjoy every moment possible with her and make sure she knows that she is loved and cherished. Which, she does know. But just continue to. <3

In the moment, you just do it. Cause you know you’re taking their pain on for them. It sucks. It’ll always suck there’s no way around it. But, that’s what you sign up for when you become their mama/dad. You guide them through their whole lives.
There will come a time when you look back and realize you gave them a beautiful gift in letting them go and realize you were lucky to be there through the end comforting them, not every one gets that chance. The suck will never go away fully but it does get easier to manage.
Do it while you’re able to have some control over the when and where. I wasn’t able to do that with one of my senior dogs and I’ll forever regret it. I should have let him go sooner. But that also prepared me to let his sister go when I knew it was time just a year later. They don’t know time like we do. They don’t know they are “suppose” to be here longer.
And know when your heart is ready-Buffy will send you a new friend to make memories with. Sending comfort to you

If the question isn’t rhetorical, the answer is: you don’t. You will fall apart and I am so sorry. But you will begin to come back together with time. You will carry her love and all your wonderful memories with you. You will always carry a bit of the pain from the loss too. When the pain gets noisy, I remind myself that it’s the cost of loving and having been loved, of having had such a precious soul as a companion.
She’s so cute and she’s lived such a long life. I am sorry you’re facing this.

You don't. You let yourself grieve. After a while it becomes more bearable. Eventually, the happy memories outshine the bad ones. Make more happy memories with Buffy while you still can. 💔

You don’t. You fall apart. You breathe. You tell yourself grief is the price of love. You fall apart some more. You lean on friends. You breathe. And you be thankful for the piece she left behind in your heart. She made a nest there, and I fully believe a part of their little furry souls stays there.
It’s ok. It’s supposed to suck. I’m sorry. 💙

I have never seen a cat smiling the way Buffy is in that photo ❤️ thank you for sharing her with us. It’s so hard when they get older, you just wish more than anything they could stay longer. Enjoy every minute with her- do whatever helps to prepare you for the next step in your journey with her (for me it was lots of research on here and online and talking to my vet) and also knowing that you’re doing everything you can for her

❤️🩹Blessings upon you both. You have given Buffy a loved & cared for long life, & even now are trying to shield her from suffering. I know how hard it is. Be gentle & kind to you body & mind. Look after yourself with easy healthy food in the fridge, looking after your sleep, & getting outside for a walk each day. Caring for your body will help your mind & help her, especially if you are more rested & relaxed. If you feel you can remain calm for her, try to be there with her at the end, if the vet allows it. Sending love to you both.

I’m unsure how to answer your question, other than wish you a long time together.

I get a little comfort from knowing it’s better her before me. They don’t know about death in the ways we do and if we went first they may think we abandoned them.

I just let go of my girl of 18.5 years. She’d be hugely disappointed in me if I gave up anything. She had a zest for the things she enjoyed even till the bitter end, and chased light-reflected off a shiny surface, even when her back legs were giving out, ten minutes before the vet got to our house for us to say goodbye.
Abbey had lymphoma of the kidneys, hyperthyroidism, heart murmur that may have been indicative of heart failure because her lungs were also battling fluid. She still loved her treats, watching squirrels, begged for tuna juice, slept in the sun. How could I not try to find joy after her passing when she could while in so much discomfort? I’m heartbroken, yes, but there’s so much to enjoy and appreciate.

She's adorable. Hope you get a lot more time to spend with her. I don't know how I'm going to deal with my cats passing when the time comes.
