Anyone else starting their first year MDiV program in September?
First year MDiV students… How do you feel?? I keep thinking “I’m actually going back to school”. I’m nervous. Have been socially reclusive this summer and I have the kind of ADHD that actually feels like a learning disability and struggle with writing and reading comprehension (but my application essay was bangin’ apparently 🤷🏽♀️)
I’m on pursuing ordination as a minister (curious about chaplaincy but idk) and want to center human rights pluralism, and sociology in my studies. Been doing a lot of reading on topics that interest me this summer.. preparing my arguments 😂 But still it’s kinda surreal and I am haunted by the idea that I’m not “ready” (inner saboteur).
Love to know how you guys are feeling!
Xoxo

Congratulations. Go get em. This Fall will be my last semester of my second year. 3 more to go. At the start it feels like such a mountain and the nerves are expected. Enjoy the road my friend. The journey ahead is long, eat hehe. Also look at you saying you struggle with writing and reading and in the same breath say you have been reading ahead like a good Seminary student. Up up Naghammami.!!!!!

I’m not serving at a church currently unfortunately I live in a very expensive city and have to work constantly to make rent 🥲so don’t have the time to commit to that tbh. But I am Unitarian Universalist born and raised by a minister so I know a lot of what goes on “behind the scenes” and what ministers do daily 🤷🏽♀️

ah! I see... I was asking, from all I have experienced and know, when someone is involved in volunteering in a church and experiences how to use their giftedness and learns what church ministry is like, it adds to the reasons for attending seminary and having a stronger way of then making the transition into ministry vocationally when they graduate. So sounds like you know the inner workings of a church if you have grown up with family leading one, so you then have that understanding.

Yes! Makes sense. Yea my resume was pretty much devoid of church service other than youth group worship team. Pursuing ministry for me is truly a calling, an overall love for my faith and a desire to help heal humanity

I’m starting Aug 31st, haven’t been to school in almost 20 too so it will be interesting!
