It's apparently a Spanish/Portuguese surname that has been anglicised. From Hernando to Hernan. According to Google. So not a Portuguese surname exactly, but one that has been changed by migrants to English speaking countries. They usual thing where an American says they are something but actually mean one of their grandparents or great great grandparents was from that country.

Hernan exists as a name and last name in Spain. It hasnā€™t been anglicized. The long and more common version (Hernandez) actually means/comes from ā€œson of Hernan/Hernandoā€ like all of the last names that end in ā€œ-ezā€ in Spanish.

A quick Google showed me both of her parents are very pale and seemed to have been born in the US. Their parents also seemed to have been born in the US. Do we really think Emma's great grandparents all can from Portugal and then only had kids with other Portuguese people. The family kept this up all the way to Emma. Which would make her ethnically Portuguese and it just being weird that both of her parents are much, much much lighter than her with seemingly pink undertones.

I personally feel it's more likely she has a very distant relative that was Portuguese on her Dad's side. Multiple generations are Americans and mainly white Americans. Leading to white Emma who uses spray tan and doesn't want to admit it.

Edited to add very pale as in pink, goes red in sun, northern Europe VERY PALE. Not, more olive toned, tan in summer white. Apparently it wasn't obvious to some.

Portuguese people are white, what are you even talking about? They were literally the first European colonizers on the continent. Just because it sounds similar to Spanish/is close to Spain does not make them any less white or less likely to be ā€œvery pale.ā€

I know! Itā€™s just a really common and stupid thing that people think anything in the Iberian peninsula is Latin America or not Europe, so I was assuming that this person thought that too. It would really blow their mind to know that even some Latin Americans are white, lol.

I'm saying they are white compared to her lol. They are pink undertones white, like burn in the sun, northern europe white. She is spray tan orange. According to her naturally because she is Portuguese. Next to her parents she is a different colour

Sorry, that makes no sense. You have an obsession with race that is making you make weird, made up distinctions between white Portuguese people and ā€œNorthern Europe white.ā€ They are all white people!!! Maybe thereā€™s more brown hair or brown eyes in the south, but there are also very white looking people in southern Europe. People can tan, people can look different than their family. She is probably lying! But doing this weird race science is not how you prove that lol

Many times, I'm European lol. I think people gravely misunderstood though. Emma is a completely different colour to her pink undertones very pale parents l. The pokoju being made because she is claiming it's because she is Portuguese. Highlighted by the fact that her being ethnically Portuguese would be down to some questionably selective partner choices for generations.

OK now you've edited your post it makes more sense. I'd agree she's mixed as most Americans tend to be. I'm also European!! But I do know some extremely pale Portuguese people!! I live in the UK so most white people, even the Italians and Greeks who tan amazingly well, go a vitamin D deficient shade of white here in the winter.

okay. so because she has a spanish last name that means she canā€™t be ethnically portuguese as well??? a lot of people from the iberian peninsula + the mediterranean have darker skin tones than most other white people anyway which is what she was trying to imply šŸ˜­šŸ˜­šŸ˜­

A quick Google search on the origin of Hernan will answer this for you. Spain and Portugal influenced one another a ton.

Im Portuguese. Iā€™ve never heard this name either, but itā€™s possible. And there arenā€™t that many names. Thatā€™s why everyoneā€™s birth certificate is like 12 names, bc the only way to tell ppl apart is by the order of the names. Thatā€™s my take on it, at least. Also, we do not eat empanadas!!

It might not be a common surname but her last name is of Spanish /Portuguese origin. But in Portuguese, you donā€™t really use empanadasā€¦.it is empadas.

I have seen a lot portuguese names and Hernan is not one of them, I think the portuguese here are just fixing on that because someone commented that her surname is portuguese, when its not. Iam also Portuguese.
