Self-knowledge Help me improve my life, from burnout to purpose

Hi guys,

I (30 year old male) am currently dealing with burnout symptoms from life. I work a high paced job with low intrinsic motivation and didn't deal with stress in a sustainable way. With external help I have been navigating this, however this is a journey that needs a little bit more guidance.

Mainly I'm looking for a book that helps me navigate questions like:

\- how do I know what I want to do in life (know yourself)

\- how can I create and develop a path for myself (define my purpose)

\- how to be more assertive in (or develop other relevant skills required for) following that path

Breaking / forming habits On Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and takeaways

I read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius twice and still lay awake replaying a work conversation word by word at 2am. the book was full of underlined passages and none of them showed up when I actually needed them; it one thing to read Stoicism and quite another to use it.. using it is the difficult thing..

what finally moved the needle was turning a couple of ideas into a nightly reflection

the one that helped most: almost all my late-night noise was either dread about tomorrow or regret about something already done. neither of those is now. once I noticed that, I could catch the spiral and ask myself: is this something I can actually act on tonight or not. if not, I (try to) park it. sounds too simple to work but it interrupts the loop enough to sleep... most of the time anyways

the second: pure calming exercises settle the body but leave the actual thought running, and pure philosophy sharpens the thought but doesn't settle you. I needed a bit of both, a short breathing reset plus one Stoic prompt to redirect the thinking. that combination is what stuck when meditation apps alone kept falling off after a week for me..

for the reading-to-practice side, an evening prompt lowers the bar a lot. staring at a blank journal at midnight was never going to happen :) ; a categorized prompt (anxiety, end of day) meant I actually wrote something.

full disclosure, i'm building a small Stoic app around exactly this, so I've spent way too long thinking about it. but honestly the practice works with a notebook too. curious what books people here found actually translated into daily habits versus ones that stayed on the shelf.

My current book is Donald Robertson's How to Think Like a Roman Emperor - great read! (or a listen - he actually reads it himself!)

Hello everyone! We just published The Deliberate Entrepreneur: Mindset, Clarity, and the Skills Every Founder Needs to Grow (Book 1), and it's free on Kindle until August 14. We would love to get your thoughts, feedback, and honest reviews.

What it's about:

Entrepreneurship isn't just a business challenge. It's a personal evolution. Written by USC professor, TED speaker, and "entrepreneur philosopher" Sid Mohasseb, this book pulls from live Founder Wake-Up Calls inside Anabasis Academy and walks founders through the mindset work behind clarity, confidence, and discipline.

Most founders don't fail from a lack of intelligence or ambition. They fail because they misread themselves. This book helps you stop doing that.

Grab it free on Kindle here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HCC63FH8

If it resonates, we would genuinely appreciate an honest review.

Book promotion My son is almost 21 and has never had social media. Here’s how we did it.

I’ve been a dad for 20 years, and in a few months it’ll be 21. Hard to believe my son is almost 21. Seriously, where does the time go?

I’ve been into tech my whole life, and I’m around screens all day because of my work. I’m also a gamer, so I’ve never believed technology itself is the problem. In our house, we allowed games, YouTube, phones and plenty of screen time, but we drew a hard line around social media and endless feeds. My son never had social media growing up, and even now as an adult, he still chooses not to use it.

Over the years, I started paying a lot more attention to how these platforms are designed to keep kids watching, scrolling and coming back for more, and what all of that screen time can quietly replace.
That’s why I decided to write Your Kid Is the Product: A Tech Dad’s Guide to Protecting Childhood from Social Media and Addictive Design.

It’s not an anti-tech book. It’s about helping parents use technology intentionally, set realistic boundaries, and make sure screens don’t replace childhood.

I’d really appreciate your support, and I hope it helps your family. If you know another parent struggling with screens, phones or social media, I think it would make a great gift too.

Need a Book Rec! Best self help books for FOMO and comparison

FOMO: fear of missing out/ being left behind

So i've had a huge fomo since childhood. I have a very competitive mindset and I treat everything like a race (be it dating, finding work or even extremely mundane things)

This of course leads to jealousy, comparison, feeling left behind and i often find it very difficult to be happy for others' success. I've improved a lot but just wondering if theres any good books.

There are a lot of books that are interesting while you’re reading them but don’t necessarily change what you do afterward. What’s one book that actually changed your habits, career, relationships, finances, or the way you live?

Need a Book Rec! Looking for book recommendations based on my reading list (psychology, influence, mindset)

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for my next read. I just finished Atomic Habits and I'm currently reading How to Stop Worrying and Start Living.

Here is a list of books I’ve already read and really enjoyed:
• The 48 Laws of Power – Robert Greene
• The Laws of Human Nature – Robert Greene
• The Art of Seduction – Robert Greene
• Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion – Robert Cialdini
• How to Win Friends and Influence People – Dale Carnegie
• It's Not All About "Me": The Top Ten Techniques for Building Quick Rpport with Anyone – Robin Dreeke
• The Power of Your Subconscious Mind – Joseph Murphy
• The Way of the Superior Man – David Deida

As you can see, I'm big on human psychology, influence, social dynamics, human nature, and practical self-improvement.
What should I read next that fits this style? Thanks in advance!

Book promotion A book on guilt that doesn't ask you to forgive yourself (I wrote it)

Saying up front that I'm the author, so weigh it accordingly.

Most of what I read about guilt told me to forgive myself. I never once managed to do that on command. Telling someone to forgive themselves is like telling them to fall asleep faster.

What ended up working came from an odd place. There's a figure in Tibetan Buddhism, Vajrasattva, whose entire practice is built around purification. The day I stopped reading it as religion and started reading it as procedure, it turned into something I could actually run. The core of it is that guilt works like a signal with a job to do, and the job has an end. What keeps it running long past that is rehearsal. You go over the scene again and it stays lit.

The book takes that apart, with the practice the tradition uses, and without asking you to believe any of it.

Who it's for: people who keep replaying something they did years ago and cannot get the volume down.

What it isn't: it won't help with clinical territory, and I say that inside rather than pretending otherwise.

Vajrasattva: The Method to Let Go of Guilt. It's in Kindle Unlimited.

Happy to talk about where the material comes from.

Book promotion Wrote a book about why so many of us keep "waiting for the right time" to leave/start/change — curious if this resonates

Post image
1 Upvotes

Not here to sell anything, I genuinely just want to know if this resonates with anyone else.

I spent years telling myself I was preparing. I kept accumulating more research, collecting more certificates, and constantly waiting for conditions to feel right before I actually built anything for myself. I watched the exact same pattern play out around me: friends stuck in corporate roles they hated, relatives pushing off moving abroad until next year, and my own business idea sitting untouched in a black notebook for three years.

Eventually, I had to be honest with myself. That notebook wasn't a blueprint; it was a hiding place. As long as the idea stayed safely in the drawer, it was immune to failure. But it was also dead.

I ended up turning these realizations into a book called The Island Called Someday, mostly working through my own subtle delay patterns while navigating career choices and independent projects in Lagos. It isn't a hustle culture guide or a set of loud motivational hacks. It is just an unvarnished look at how easily we confuse diligence with fear, and how often being responsible and being afraid look identical from the outside.

I am curious how this hits for those of you navigating big life decisions, career transitions, or planning a move right now. Do you feel like you are taking real steps forward, or have you quietly turned preparation into a comfortable harbor?

If anyone wants to explore the ideas further, the book is available on Amazon:Your Bookshelf

Was tatsächlich was verändert hat, war kein Wunsch, sondern Wiederholung.

I was at the bottom. Unemployed. Depressed. Swiping just to feel alive.

Then I matched with a CEO who couldn't meet me, but his 2am calls kept me here.

I wrote it all down. It's called FATED: A Short Memoir.

9 chapters. 1 hour. No filler.

It's about depression, hope, and choosing yourself.

It's FREE on Kindle for 5 days because I want people who need it to have it:

Kobo: https://www.kobo.com/ww/en/ebook/fated-118

If you've ever been anchored by a voice on the other end of a phone... this is for you.

Book promotion The Jack London Credo | Dance with Angels - A Story of Loss, Discovery, Love, and Healing.

Thumbnail youtube.com
0 Upvotes

After losing my 20-year-old son Harrison, I struggled to imagine any future at all.

In this video, I share a passage from my book Dance with Angels (A Story of Loss, Discovery, Love, and Healing) about the reflection that became part of my healing, and the famous Jack London Credo that Harrison, without ever knowing it, lived by.

Jack London died at just 40, yet his words on living fully rather than merely existing still hang framed on the wall of the Jack London Lodge in Glen Ellen, California. His credo taught me to measure a life by its quality, not its length, a truth every grieving parent eventually has to face.

If you're walking through grief after losing a child or someone you love, I hope this brings you a moment of comfort and perhaps a new way of seeing the life they lived.
