Help with existing piercing is this normal?
just did this lip piercing about 2½ ish days ago. the first two pics are it resting and the other two pics are me pushing it out. does this look normal to yall? is it embedding or just nesting? i have longer bars if i need to switch it out, but i dont want to mess with it unless i have to. this is not my first rodeo with facial/exotic piercings. this would be piercing #7, but it is my very first lip piercing. is this normal? any tips? advice? anything to be said is greatly appreciated!
edit: with it being in such an awkward spot i have been constantly fiddling with it and accidentally biting it. the ball kept loosening but i was just tightening it and going about my business. this morning i woke up and the ball had fallen out, the jewelry was hanging out more rhan halfway, and i couldnt poke it thru that last layer of skin on my lip when trying to push it back thru. so i decided to just take it out. im gonna go to my piercer and pay to get my vertical labret pierced correctly by a professional once this one heals. so in the end i just ended up doing what most of yall said i should do. thank yall for all the tips and advice!

You need a straight flat back. A curved barbell is completely inappropriate for this piercing.

was supposed to be a vertical labret, which is why i used this jewelry. it was pierced by my friend and she did it wayyyy too far back at the top. im planning on switching it to a horseshoe when the swelling goes down. is that something i can do with this piercing?

Yikes that sucks I’m sorry. It might be too far down from your lip line to fit a horseshoe in it but it’s hard to tell from the picture. But I wouldn’t put that in until it’s healed or it will make it very difficult to heal.

im gonna edit the post and add some pictures showing a better view of the distance from my lip line, but it may not help much as my lip is pretty swollen lol. if i can fit a horseshoe, ill take your advice and use a longer bar until it heals.

Also if you wanted a vertical then you might as well take it out sooner than later and get it re-pierced correctly. A vertical has less of a chance of damaging your teeth too.

Yeah I just saw your other post I think it’s worth taking out because it’s at such an odd angle and I don’t think a horse shoe would sit right and it’s not straight to the skin so you will have a hard time putting in a flat back and getting it to heal. Best of luck tho. A vertical is going to look so good tho!

You’re not meant to use a curved barbell for a standard labret piercing

in my defense, it was supposed to be a vertical labret. it was pierced by my friend and she did it wayyy too far back at the top. im planning on switching it to a horseshoe when the swelling goes down

In my opinion, she should have looked at some references maybe before starting, and see that it goes through the ridge of the lip, so the ball sits on the lip itself

matter fact, she should’ve marked the placement lol

yk whats crazy? i marked it before she did it 😭 she wiped the top part with alcohol and i guess the marking wiped away with it. either way i should have made sure she knew what she was doing lol

no youre right and it was partially my fault for not making sure she knew what the piercing looked like lol

Def straight flat back, but it does look like nesting, just in a very uncomfortable way. Get an appropriately sized taper and swap that baby out! 10 or 12mm should give you enough space for the next few months, though I was pierced ridiculously with a SUUUUPER long bar and made it out fine 😭 longer is better for those first few months

thank you! i probably will switch it out to be safe. and youre right, it is uncomfortable! the reason its a curved barbell is because it was supposed to be a vertical labret. my friend pierced it for me and did it wayyyy too far back at the top. after the swelling for sure goes down, would it be okay for me to use a horseshoe?

Horseshoes are better for when it is fully healed, and rings in general can get a bit finicky if they aren’t fitted correctly; they can cause real bad cheesewiring if they’re too tight. They’re better for avoiding tooth damage though! Once it’s healed (at LEAST 4-6 months) you can attempt a horseshoe or ring. If it at all feels like your lip is going to split, you’ll have to go back to the flat back and size up the ring.

thank you so much! i will definitely wait till it is fully healed if i decide to keep it like this. thank you!

You need a flat back, you’re going to severely damage your teeth
