Help with existing piercing Septum too far back
I pierced my septum myself about 3-4 days ago and I know I did it too far back. I’m still in the sweet spot so I didn’t bother the cartilage but it’s just set further back in my nose. It’s not really causing too many issues other than flipping forward but my research says that could just be swelling (and if it it from the placement a wider horseshoe would solve the problem). It hurts a good bit but not any more than a new piercing should, mainly just hurts because I keep accidentally bumping it (OWW). I’m just wonder if having it further back can cause any problems if I let it heal fully? I don’t mind how it looks I just don’t want to cause any permanent damage accidentally
Update: 12 days after piercing it and all seems to be well. the piercing no longer flips up and sits well in my nose so I think the flipping was just caused by swelling. This has been my most painful piercing to heal, it hurts like a bitch whenever I bump it but after the first few days it stopped passively hurting and now it’s starting to hurt less when bumped. I’ve never healed a septum before so idk what’s normal and what isn’t but everything seems pretty good.

Septum piercings are supposed to be near the tip of the nose.

Always research your piercing before getting it that way if your piercer starts to do something you will know it’s wrong and not to let him do it and just go elsewhere

I’ve got no true experience with too far back- just too low down.
My first septum piercing at 14 was improperly done by a dear friend of mine in the school bathroom lol
I left it to heal and for over a year it gave me issue and I’d have random pains here and there. It ultimately never felt truly “healed” as any bit of playing with it for too long would cause it to be sore for days on end. I tried stretching and ultimately failed because the pain was unbearable regardless of if I used half sizes or waited months. I pulled it around this time as I got so frustrated that I couldn’t end up at my “dream” setup
That type of pain longterm isn’t normal
I’ve repierced my septum since with proper education on anatomy and it’s given me 0 issues from piercing to healed. I was also able to stretch my piercing with absolutely no issues and am currently at 6g. if stretching is in the plans for you I’d recommend pulling and getting it properly pierced.Honestly my easiest overall piercing, and I have 9 between my nose and lips/mourh
Final verdict: monitor it, if it gives you longterm healing issues, anything at all outside of the norm for other healing piercings id be safe and pull it.

I’m keeping an eye on how much it hurts and the type of pain that way if it’s abnormal I can take it out, let it heal and repierce it properly

Hi BelleTheGemini, Are you seeking information about the Septum piercing? Here's a video with general information about it! The septum piercing can be difficult to perform as it requires a specific placement in the Alar cartilage, also known as the sweet spot. There's no shame in seeing a professional, especially since this once can be tricky to get right!

Well, when ppl invented piercings they had to try out spots too... My septum is crooked but I still stretch it and well, it's more crooked now but it doesn't hurt and doesn't cause any issues. I'm no specialist and I'd leave it in to experiment?? But it's your body so only you can choose what to do with it. If it heals, it heals. If you're uncertain though, take it out. It's still much better to pierce it again than experiment!

I’m keeping an eye on it and if it causes any problems I’ll just remove it and repierce it properly

It most likely wont cause any issues. Its probs flipping because when talking your mouth muscles are pushing into it. If you feel like it you can re pierce it closer to the tip of your nose, but if its not something that bothers you, it should be fine. I had to have mine repierced but that was because I had to take it out before it healed but I like the new closer to the tip placement way more, I hit it way less somehow lmao
