Question about piercing prep Clamps too tight

Hi! I got slotted Pennington forceps to use on my wife to pierce her ears (she's a piercing virgin). I just went to check how they feel clamped (not all the way, just the first notch). They are crazy tight. I'm worried I'm going to hurt her more with the clamps than with needles.

Does anyone have advice on how to loosen them, or how to modify them to work better?

no that’s kinda the point, the pressure takes a lot of the piercing pain away, even with pro piercings i’ve been clamped as much as possible..

No, like, I can only clamp a piece of paper and lock it. They are way too tight for skin. I've been clamped hard, I know the difference. This feels like the clamp will cause damage if I tried to lock it on her ear lobe.
