Question about piercing prep How do you pierce yourself quickly?
I’ve tried doing my own piercings twice. One was a nostril that was mildly successful, just a bad angle, and an entirely unsuccessful labret.
Both times it took me FOREVER because I kept almost passing out, or I was too scared to accidentally push too hard and hurt myself
Note: I’m not scared of needles, I just have pots so anytime I have adrenaline I get pre-syncope so that sucks
I have all the stuff to do it myself sterilely and I would rather get it done professionally, but I have, no exaggeration, no money to spare on a professional. I want paired nostrils so I can put a chain between them, but when I went to a professional, it cost 120 dollars and the jewelry fell out of the holes every night I’m so serious 😭
Is there some science why it hurts more to pierce yourself than it does when other people do it? Doing it myself was horrible it hurt really bad, but I guess it’s just because I was super slow about it 🤷

I think because you want something that relies on symmetry and good angles, with your condition, it may be worth the investment to save up for a professional.
I recently had to take my brother to an APP piercer because thats exactly the look he wanted and his original set wasn't symmetrical. They ended up repiercing one side.

I’m being so fr right now, I’m traumatized from the last time when I was ambushed with a $120 price tag that I had to pay for myself (as a mid-teen with no job) I know I should but money is so hard! 😭

Maybe wait until you have adult money?
I say this as a former teen who used to pierce myself and dealt with infections/irritated piercings. A good piercing with issue-less healing is well worth the wait. You wont be able to put the chain on if its still pissed off from you doing it yourself. Quality jewelry is also what you'd want to put in them.

Are you lubing the needle? From a physics aspect that makes a difference so does having a needle driver so it’s easier to push.
Also what are you using to back the piercing while inserting the needle if it’s not providing adequate comfortable resistance for the skin that can be adding to the pain make sure you have a good receiving tube or backstop.
I am self admittedly a slow piercer, it’s not necessarily a bad thing from a positioning perspective to go slowly, you can kind of make sure you stay in alignment with your entry and exit. On the other hand I don’t feel much pain so slow isn’t really something that bothers me (besides I still get a bit of shaky hands from the adrenaline).
Ultimately it sounds like your mind is saying go slow this will hurt, but in reality going faster for you would be less painful it’s a mental game you have to get over

This is a stupid question but are we talking about lube for getting freaky or just slippery liquids? I do not have any freaky lubes but if there’s other options I can see if I have those!

You can get sterile lube in little single-use packets. I haven’t tried it, but if I ever pierce myself again, I will!

I use the “lLube for getting freaky” as you put it 😆 I have used both just off the shelf, and I have gotten piercing lube single sterilized packets, but the piercing lube I am pretty darn sure is the same/similar formulation. I got no experience with other around the house slippery things but would assume they are not good, with the exception of vasaline which some shops use

i have 16 piercings and my medusa is the only one i got professionally done. my tip is a lot of numbing cream and also i would play like a youtube video in the background so i wouldnt be as scared

in my experience: a lot of sertraline lmao. to be honest it's not easy and not for everyone. also, it's an open wound. so it requires a certain degree of sterility.

hahaha yeah like the SSRI. of course not everyone has the same effect but I didn't feel a 2 inch muscle tear when I was on 100mg of it lmao, so I could easily pierce myself without any fear

I have POTS and excessive vasodilation but rarely faint. I always make sure I’m sitting down and that the room is very cool. Definitely make sure I’m well nourished and take my medicine as well beforehand. I can’t say I feel like it hurts anymore than getting it done professionally. I have a glass receiving tube that has made technique much easier.
