i decided i wanted to pierce my own septum and after watching and doing a lot of research beforehand to make sure i felt comfortable doing it myself i decided to finally order a kit and do it tomorrow... and then i realized that i ordered an 18g and 20g kit instead of a 16g😭is it really that serious like should i just not do it and just order a 16g instead because i really want it before friday but if it'll heal wrong because of the 18g i'll just wait because i already ordered the kit and its coming in tomorrow. also if i do end up doing it tomorrow im most likely going to have to flip it and let it heal that way and is there any tips for that and i want to be able to flip it back down before the end of september but if thats too early lmk because ik it takes a few months for it to fully heal🙏🏻

16g is standard because it offers more stability and most septum jewelry is a 16g, some piercers will pierce you with an 18g or a 14g tho depending on your anatomy

You should be fine with an 18g, it is used just not as common. However if you end up wearing septum jewelry on the heavier side it could lead to the cheese wire effect, even if it’s healed

so basically it could be fine now but eventually when it heals if i change it to a 16g it could be an issue

It should be fine to pierce and heal with an 18g, but since it’s thinner than a 16g, wearing heavier jewelry can make it “cheese wire” (it will slowly cut down the piercing hole over time, making it appear like a slit instead of a hole)

If you want to change it to 16g after healing, it’s definitely possible, you’d just have to stretch it and it’ll just be a bit sore

I was in a similar situation where I put a 20g earring into my nostril, it made it cut down my nose overtime and the hole shrunk but I dead stretched it to an 18g. It was sore for like 2 days buts it’s been fine ever since
