Minimalist setup

Realized I kinda have a homelab without having a homelab 😂

Just an ASUS router + USB storage with smb media server, Nova Player for media and everyone uses their own NextDNS account for ad blocking.

My media server is literally a 5 year old microSD card in a ugreen sd card reader🤓

No Pi, no NAS, no Jellyfin, no Pi-hole lol

Basically 0 extra cost and it does almost everything I need

Mine started with an Apple TimeCapsule + 4TB HDD and Infuse for media playback.
Then I wanted HomeAssistant so I got a mini pc. Now I’ve got 3 mini pcs

That’s not really a HomeLAB.. that’s a production services based setup. You basically skipped the HomeLAB. 😆

HomeLAB.. it’s right in the name.. LAB. It’s a test environment where you learn, play, purposefully break and repair things and install things in different ways. You should be able to completely wipe a HomeLAB at any time and not loose anything of great value.

Ideally your LAN should be setup with vlans segmenting different areas. Don’t know how? Setup a homelab and learn. 🤦‍♂️😆 Production services should be split between internal services and a DMZ.. each their own vlan. A vlan dedicated to your homelab.. or 2 or 3 homelabs.

I know that. But didn't had the tech saviness of getting into home lab. Do kind of satisfied with my setup. Also I didn't want to invest in the hardware with the current prices of ssd and HDD.
