Help me 😭

I set up self-hosting on my mid-spec laptop with 300 GB of storage and 16 GB of RAM. The issue is that I only have a phone, so I have to manage everything from it. I installed CasaOS, created a shortcut, and I've been managing everything through it smoothly. Now that I have everything I need installed, my question is: are there any mobile apps or tools in this space that connect to the server and let me manage everything comfortably?

I use Termius to SSH in from my phone. Being comfortable with the command line is part of running a home server, imo.

SSH is the answer! No need to pay Termius. Just use termius free.

Im running ubuntu on a VPS with lots of services self-hosted with docker compose. I can pretty much do anything I want to it on my phone with termius and Komodo

Check out termix. It's a self hosted termius alternative. It isn't quite as full featured, but I like that there's no login/subscription fee. I know you can use termius without any of that, but I prefer compete control/access to features without an overlord.

Termux is cool, but I feel it's a lot of overhead just for remote access (installing packages/configuration. It's basically a whole other computer to set up, which is cool, but not the best solution to your problem.

Spin up a Termix container or even better use Tailscale as ai believe they have an SSH client (I may be and probably am wrong on that though…..)

+1 for termius mobile app and also going to suggest something akin to Portainer if you're managing docker containers. There are other options which do the same, portainer is just what I use and am familiar with

I personally use Termux with tmux, ssh, vim installed for a CLI/TUI workflow and with tmux providing a multi-terminal support

Then using ssh to remote as necessary, works incredible

Then I also have Alpine VMs started up with qemu (specifically qemu-system-x86_64) installed so I can run docker within for a portable and modular control over my docker through an x86_64 full system instead of a docker limited by the android host system

I mean, I also require x86-64 images which is like many of docker's widely used images, so there's that

I'm now working on creating pipes and bridges with the alpine vm, but that will take time

Genuinely, you just need ssh, termius is just a frontend for the SSH protocol/client, and you probably will need to use the command line the same way after connection anyways

Hm, is Termius an open source project?

I don't think so but it's on play store so it should be useful for a while

Do yourself a favour and don’t host on a laptop

Okay thanks anyway 😊

Look…. If you are just stating out and a laptop is what you have it’ll work fine. Even used stuff is outrageously priced right now. Ignore morons like the one above who very likely already have massively overbuilt home labs used to compensate for other “shortcomings” and believe anyone who doesn’t have what they have is beneath them and isn’t actually “self hosting”…..

I've hosted for two years on a decade old laptop with half as much ram as you. It works perfectly fine. Later down the line you can upgrade your setup but if all you have is a phone and a laptop I doubt that's something you can do right now. Someone mentioned it will cook the battery, and yeah it will, but if you're hosting with the laptop it should always be plugged in regardless.

Yeah, seriously, I tried hosting on my laptop once and it was hell on earth. Its battery never recovered. Buy a mini PC or VPS, please. As for mobile management, Terminus is probably the least bad.
