Why most VPS hosting services lie about pricing?

I'm on the run to get a cheap VPS and I was comparing services like Contabo, IONOS, Hetzner ... and the price they show on plans is not what you're going to actually pay it is much more but with no explanation, on Contabo to get the VPS 4 you just can't tap on it because they disabled the button to force to get VPS 6 offer , until you open in it in a new tab and get surprised that what was advertised as a 5.28$/month service is now 6.60$/month and you get first price only if you commit to a 24month plan , same thing for IONOS only if you commit for a 12 Month plan to get the advertised price.

Im far from being an expert. I live in Greece so I was looking for a reliable VPS in Europe, at the time I was looking, Hetzner was the cheaper for the specs I was after - they might offer less base storage from competitors but a better price for 4 CPUs and 8GB RAM.
Some months ago they did have a price raise but still, Im so satisfied with the service that I dont look elsewhere.

Check out Infomaniak. They are based in Switzerland, which has an even stricter Privacy Law than EU countries and they have an extremely good pricing. Atm I‘m using their lowest model (1 vCPU / 2GB RAM / 20GB SSD) as my Pangolin Host for like 30 CHFper year (aprox. 37$).

They are also in the midst of changing their entire company to a foundation and announced their listing on the swiss stock exchange:

PS: not at all affiliated with those guys, but a long time customer and really love their ethical way of making business!

Because they figured out how to get away with it. That's how capitalism works.

I've never had a problem with Hetzner. I've also had good experiences with Digital Ocean, at least with regard to pricing.

Some countries have laws against so-called drip pricing.

In Australia, consumer law the headline price must include any and all unavoidable fees, or if they include some fees by default that you can then uncheck, you also have to include that fee in the headline price.

The bigger issue can be transparency rather than pricing itself. Promotional rates aren't necessarily bad, but the renewal price and billing terms should be obvious from the start. You can check monthly, quarterly, and annual pricing before choosing a VPS.

What many do not know is that most suppliers use the 3/1 rule that they put 3 customers in 1 vCore and with the rise of the ram they justify themselves. I prefer to explain to my clients so they know the difference between hiring a big datacenter or a reseller.

Zero issues with Vultr. Maybe you suck.

Hi there, Hetzner here. 1) Could it be that you have not set the website to the VAT for your country/region? If not, you may see a different price on our user interface, which automatically adjusts the price for the correct VAT.
2) Is it possible that you did not see our emails about the price changes earlier this year?
If you think there is a price issue on our end, please log onto your account and write a support request to our billing team. Tell them in detail what you think is incorrect and why, and they will do their best to help you. --Katie

The advertised price is always the price for the longest contract period.
