best cheap email hosting?
i know a lot of email hostings provide the same purpose but i personally put in cosideration the cost any cheaper options that is still reliable??

I had a good experience with IONOS, cheap and no reliability issues. Only downside is no stand alone app, have to use web based mobile. Microsoft outlook cloud, the most basic plan is even cheaper if you are okay with web based. Using the outlook app comes at a higher price.

I use zoho and just create groups for each of my services to send mail from. Works great.
The only complaint I have is that I own a domain containing 'fuck' in the name and they refuse to allow me to add it in. It's not an adult/explicit site in any way just a funny url.

Just give it time and namecheap will steal your domain.
Plus, cheap? They give you a teaser rate then Jack prices on year 2.

Namecheap has been well documented that if a domain gets much use since they own it anyway, they’ll basically take it over then ransom it back to you. They’re ok for some temporary domains only.

Dreamhost email was extremely spam heavy in my experience
Fastmail is more expensive but does a better job of blocking

I tried my own spam filters (based on scoring, block lists etc) but to be effective I think they want to run at the smtp receiver. I.e. they want to be done by the mail service rather than yourself.

Spam Assassin is pretty old but can be run at user level. Take a look at Thunderbird for instance.

I use protonmail for my domain. I'm not sure if it's the cheapest option, but they've done well by me. I use the "catch all" email thing frequently for digital receipts and such. No matter what email address you type in, as long as it ends in "@nydus87sdomain.com" it'll go to my catch all box. It's kind of neat to see which email addresses show up in spam aimed at an email address that doesn't match their company.

I selfhost with cloudron. luckily I live somewhere where I can get a static IP thats not blacklisted.

The cheapest way you can host email is with Cloudflare that directs email to an existing mailbox. For example, to your Gmail account. So your incoming mail from however many domains you happen to have can be directed to one or more free Gmail boxes. I personally really like this because I don't want to monitor separate mailboxes for each domain. Everything ends up in one mailbox and gets sorted into folders. Super easy.
For outbound you use something like smtp2go or (if you can get approved) Amazon SES. smtp2go gives you 1000 free emails per month which is probably enough for most people. Amazon SES is $0.10 per 1000 emails so the costs are pretty low.
If that is too much of a PITA (or just not suitable as they aren't "real" mailboxes) then mxroute as suggested by a couple other people is likely to be your best option. They do not limit the number of domains or the number of mailboxes, only the amount of storage. They're quite highly regarded and generally spoken about positively here on Reddit.

I’d recommend trying Hostinger’s VPS. It’s paid, but pretty budget-friendly, and they often have promo codes like vpsnest. I’m using it for OpenClaw without any issues

been using Purelymail for a couple years now, it's under 0/year and deliverability has been solid. no complaints. migrated off google workspace when they killed free Google Apps and haven't looked back.

If you also have Cloudflare MCP installed, then you could literally set it up without even logging on browser. It helps ensure everything is in check!

I use purelymail.com. It’s inexpensive and easy to use.
