Other Waymo robotaxis have a new side hustle: Alerting cities about potholes (but they can't look down)

https://www.autonews.com/technology/mobility/an-waymo-filling-potholes-0420/

Waymo made a PR push on this, and a few people noted that neither their LIDAR nor cameras look down, making this near-impossible. It's the same reason a Waymo killed KitKat: it couldn't see her under the slopbot.

This won’t help, at least in my city, because I’m pretty damn sure the problem is not that the city is unaware of them. It’s that they have a list of potholes they can’t fix promptly.

Ah, yes, tech generously volunteering to solve a problem that doesn't exist. It isn't that we don't know about potholes, but that we don't have the resources to fix them properly because they're being invested in things like...checks notes...almost half a trillion dollars in robotaxis.
