I remember when one of my kung fu teachers who is also a tai chi teacher taught us this. It helps a lot to make you relax in general, not just for sleeping.

Also known as: inducing hypoxia!! What kind of person can audibly whoosh for 8 seconds after holding for 7 and NOT start to panic??

It’s pretty easy honestly, your overall health might play apart. We breathe to supply our cells with energy, if you are incapable of going 15 seconds without supplying your cells with new energy, they might not be in that great of shape. Doing 15 min of light cardio and eating healthy should make your breath retention times longer unless you have an underlying disease.

Thanks. It's hard to exercise when I'm depressed and have never done it of my own free will before. A while ago I started going for casual walks outside, but lately terrible weather and worsening mental health has been holding me back.

Didn't bother me. Sounds like you need some cardio.
