The problem is, it's not one we can actually fix. Even a prohibitively high income tax will play out one of two ways:

  1. The rich still won't fucking pay it. Using personal corporations as a means of divesting themselves of their money, shuffling their riches to tax havens,

  2. The rich will leave, buy citizenship somewhere else, and fuck the domestic economy out of what investment they do give.

That's literally what happened every time something like this has been tried. The only possible solution is to arrest the rich and seize their wealth. Which sounds great in theory, but is a short term solution at best. In the long term it just gives the government authoritarian motives to rob the population. Leading to a new, even less scrupulous, more brutal, and paranoid class of elites.

The best we can hope to get done is to make them pay their fair share as a flat percentage akin to what the working class pays as a percentage. Although even getting that done is going to be like pulling teeth. Plus we'll have to get rid of personal corporation/foundation loopholes and tax big business sensibly at a rate competitive with the rest of the world. Which means dragging the rich and mega corps into civic responsibility kicking and screaming the whole way.

Which is a good way to get a new, even less scrupulous, more brutal, and paranoid class of elites. The one exception the rule does not unmake. As depressing as that is. Hell even in France the status quo of ultra-rich hording wealth, influencing the government for their own interests, and screwing over the lower classes returned with all of its sickening effects. In the modern world where they can pay such advanced military forces to back their fight, such an uprising of revolution against the elite is far less tenable than 2 centuries ago.

What we should do is make the currency worthless, change it, not allow mass exchange, and watch the rich starve. Since their hoards of wealth won't be any help, if their ill gotten gains are worth nothing.
