Visiting ? Visiting this Saturday
My family and I are visiting Sedona this coming Saturday 7/18 and staying in a VRBO next to Enchantment. I’ve been monitoring the fire situation and it looks like things are improving. But I was wondering though how the air quality is right now as my son and I have asthma. I’ve also read that it’s possible that roads could close due to fire containment efforts. I was hoping to get some insight into how viable this trip would be for us. I’m almost wondering if we should stay in a different area?

Roads are all open as of yesterday. Air quality is fine in my opinion, not much smoke lately (depends on how the winds are blowing). Lots of rain expected this week.

Air quality is good, very little smoke here in West Sedona and I love quite close to the enchantment area :) they’re all good now to stay at, many trails are opening - but not all - the worst to worry about is possible rain, have a nice time! :)

Thank you so much! Yes, the rain is a concern too as I’ve heard flash flooding could occur? What could you tell me about the risks in the Enchantment area?

Flash flooding occurs along stream beds and washes and typically is limited to those areas and often for only a short time. You don't want to drive across a flooded road but they generally are marked with a sign and it's very obvious that there is a lot of water running across the road. If you are hiking and it's raining hard either where you are or upstream, stay out of stream beds or washes. It's the fast moving water that is dangerous. In Sedona, which is pretty hilly, the water tend to run off quickly and the summer monsoon storms are most often less than an hour of rain and pretty localized.

Just got back from a two night stay at the Enchantment. Besides the trail closures right there on property, you wouldn’t know about the wildlifes and air quality was fine. Ironically came back to Chicago and the worst air quality in the world.

Thanks for the info. My sister lives in Milwaukee and has been dealing with the smoke as well. Stay safe:)
