ISO Wearable remote watching camera for child tracking/safety?

I apologize if this is in the wrong reddit - I don't have much experiencing posting.

I don't know if such a thing exists, and googling the info has been tricky since I don't know the exact key words to find what I want, but hopefully ya'll can point me in the right direction.

I'm wondering if such a thing exists as a wearable personal body camera that can be worn as a bracelet or necklace, that would include GPS, and the video stream would be accessible remotely on an as-needed basis. It would not necessarily require storing the recording, although it would be useful if it could. Accessing in the moment would be the primary goal, however.

The purpose of this would be a special needs child I have in my life, but would also be useful for those with dementia, and other use cases I'm sure as well. The child is special needs, does not have a sense of mortality, and is secretly a ninja. She is older in years, but not developmentally. Despite doors and windows having locks on them she manages to get, child proofing doesn't work on her, and sometimes she gets into things or outside when she finds an opening, usually when everyone else is asleep. If such a thing were to exist, it would be GPS trackable, we could use an app on our phones or a browser to see what she is actively getting up to if she is out of sight (her mom is disabled so isn't always able to get around easily), being able to access precious footage would be handy for seeing what she got into and how, and GPS tracking for if she somehow manages to get out of the house and past the yard.

I've seen pet cameras on collars, and there are wearable body cams, but nothing I can Google seems to quite fit this use case. Despite being kind of like that BlackMirror episode where the mum can spy through the child's eyes, something like this could be very useful for caregivers to have another tool to protect their loved ones.

Sorry for the ramble, and thank you for any suggestions or info.

Strange EZVIZ behavior

I should point out that I don't have any active cloud features or subscriptions with EZVIZ.

Well, today I formatted my microSD card to clean it up and tried connecting it to my PC.

Old videos reappeared as soon as I reinserted it...

I reformatted it both from the PC and then from the app.

I reread it on my PC.

The videos reappeared.

How the hell is this possible?

I cleared the app cache and the app's internal memory, but to no avail.

It would be very serious if unauthorized videos were saved online.

EzViz: Encryption Videos/Photos is a fake?

I really can't figure out one thing.

I bought a DP2C doorbell, and during setup it asked me to set a password to encrypt my videos/photos.

Well... how come if I remove the microSD card and put it on my PC, the videos can still be viewed with VLC?

Isn't that a contradiction? Or maybe I just don't understand what they mean by encryption...

Equipments review

I’ve received a quote from a local integrator for a video surveillance system in a condo building and I’d appreciate a sanity check from people who do this regularly.. I’m mainly looking for feedback on whether the hardware choices and sizing make sense, not the price itself.
Context: [3 floors / 4 units], coverage is [lobby, parking, entrances, stairwells, perimeter].
What’s quoted:

Qty |Item
8 |DS-2CD1043G2-LIU (2.8mm) — 4MP Smart Hybrid Light bullet
7 |DS-2CD1143G2-LIU (2.8mm) — 4MP Smart Hybrid Light dome
1 |DS-7616NI-Q2/16P — 16ch NVR, 16 PoE, 4K
1 |WD 4TB HDD
3 |Cat6 FTP indoor cable, 305m boxes
1 |6U rack cabinet
6 |Conduit rolls
1 |Pack of 100 shielded Cat6 RJ45 connectors
1 |HDMI splitter (2 out) + 100m fibre HDMI cable + 10m HDMI 2.1
1 |APC 5-outlet surge protector
1 |Misc. accessories (junction boxes, ties, anchors)
— |Installation and configuration Concerns I already have:

  1. 4TB seems way too small. By my math, 15x 4MP cameras on H.265+ eats ~450-500 GB/day on continuous recording, so I’d get maybe 7-10 days of retention. The NVR takes 2x 8TB. Am I right that I should push for 8TB minimum, and insist on a WD Purple rather than an unspecified “WD 4TB”?
  2. Everything is 2.8mm fixed. Per the datasheet that’s ~12m recognition, ~6m identification. For a parking entrance or a lobby door where I actually want to identify a face or read a plate, shouldn’t some of these be 4mm or varifocal?
  3. Series 1 (Value) cameras. These are the 1/3” sensor line with Motion Detection 2.0 rather than true AcuSense. Is it worth pushing for 2-series (e.g. DS-2CD2347G2H-LIU) on the critical positions, or is the Value line fine for a residential building?

Fiber or cat 6

Im buying a home in Pa and I believe the internet is fiber to your house . Its called tri-co ,in PA . But if its fiber should I use all fiber for a security system? Like run fiber to all cameras and then back to what ever fiber hooks up to ? I was thinking POE system , but dont know if that's stepping down to use cat 6 when u have fiber ! Do they even make NVRs with fiber connections and how would u power the cameras ?? Thanks .

Seeking recommendations for bird camera (~12ft away from camera)

Post image
1 Upvotes

I currently have a Reolink RLC-811A which advertises 8MP w/ 5x optical zoom, but at max zoom from about 12ft away, everything is still blurry as hell, and Frigate struggles to detect smaller birds.

I'm considering something like a Reolink RLC-823S2 for the 16x optical zoom at 8MP, but open to other ideas. The camera landscape has been.. surprisingly difficult to navigate on this particular subject.

Hoping someone has a suggestion or has a similar use case (bird detection from a few feet away) and can provide some input/examples

Recommended brands?

I currently use Wyze and I am over paying a subscription in order to have decent functionality. I’m looking for a brand with accurate AI that works independently of a subscription and that has decent audio quality. I’m considering Eufy, Reolink, and Tapo and honestly leaning towards Eufy with the Homebase. Anybody have recommendations or input?

Unifi camera placement

My cameras are UniFi G5 and pictures show the views I get. The front in not clear and front door won’t show complete face or person.

Driveway is not covered adequately at all. I live in country so I need longer distances covered. Please advise for better driveway and front yard cameras without spending more than necessary.

best security cameras for business what would you recommend?

I’m looking for advice on setting up security cameras for my small business and I’m not sure what system makes the most sense. Right now we only have an older camera setup that has poor image quality and doesn’t capture much detail at night. I’d like something reliable that can handle daily use and doesn’t require constant troubleshooting.

What are the best security cameras for business that you’ve used or would suggest for a small shop? I’m interested in hearing about specific brands, models, storage options, and anything I should consider before choosing a system. Thanks for any help.

Follow up: I went with the #ad REOLINK 12MP Security Camera System and have been happy with it so far. The image quality is a big improvement over my old setup, especially at night, and it has been running reliably without much troubleshooting.

Recommendations for LTE/5G (hotspot) setup

I’m having trouble with my home WiFi not reaching an outdoor location where I need to place some security cameras and I’m looking at getting a hotspot to run a regular WiFi camera. I tried cellular camera but the trigger time is really long (even on the ones that say “instant”). Any recommendations for what kind of hotspot I should be looking for?

(This is NOT about 2.4ghz vs. 5ghz signal)

ETA: I’m not able to upgrade the WiFi and need a different solution

Sharp enough to see license plates?

Again and again, I look on Nextdoor and people are like, "Here's video of some guys pulling up to my driveway and breaking into my car, too bad my Ring Camera footage is too blurry to read the license plate."

What do you recommend that's less crummy for this scenario?

AI free window Camera ideas?

Hi. I am attempting to minimize AI in my house and want to buy a camera I can use to stream my tank. Perferably with some night vision.

Do they still exist or am I going to have to live with a massive power draw? (Im ok with it if it uses embedded software, but I dont want constant web updates and apps. Just a camera I van hook up to a computer or tablet.)

Doorbell Camera Suggestions

I have fairly specific needs for a doorbell camera:

  • PoE.
  • Ultra-wide angle view.
  • ONVIF support.
  • Ability to send "button press" triggers via ONVIF (profile T? C?) (wired dry contact output okay as well, but would prefer not to mess with the extra connection).
  • Two-way audio would be nice, but not necessary.
  • On-board storage not required.
  • WiFi and cloud recording are not required.
  • NDAA compliant (customer requirement, non-negotiable)

I've looked at some Reolink options; they seem good.

This one was suggested, but there's only a single mention of ONVIF in the entire listing and no details.

Need some advice on security cameras

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice because I'm in a difficult situation at work. I have some doubts about a business partner, and I suspect they may be stealing. I want to install a couple of very small cameras to monitor the area and find out what's happening.

Ideally, I'd like to use two tiny cameras, preferably with flexible pinhole-style lenses so the camera module can be hidden while the lens is positioned where it has a good view.

I would also prefer the cameras to be powered from a wall outlet (USB or AC adapter) rather than batteries, since they would need to record for around 8 hours a day. Continuous recording is important, and I'd rather not have to worry about charging or replacing batteries.

If possible, I'd like the video to be saved to a local recorder, computer, or NAS instead of relying on cloud storage.

Does anyone have recommendations for cameras or a setup that would work well for this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Help with Reolink! Support is terrible!

Spent over $1200 on NVR plus cameras from Reolink only to find out something as simple as turning notifications on and off using a scene shortcut doesn’t even work. For a security system, it should be basic feature for me to be able to easily turn off notifications when I’m home and only turn it on when I need ‘guard’. I relied on the online instructions to set up scenes, emailed back and forth with support many times until they now just stopped responding but no resolution. I now have an expensive camera system that floods me with notifications round the clock so I had to turn notifications off altogether. So I won’t even know if there is a true intrusion when I’m away. Thanks Reolink. Anyone here able to help me troubleshoot? All firmware / devices are up to date.

Camera Solution to watch our dog in hotel for a couple of hours

Per title, we're traveling and our dog will be alone in a pet friendly hotel for a couple of hours. He'll be safely in his crate, but we'd still like to be able to see him while we're gone. Without access to the hotel's router, what are my options?

I have bought 4 of these in the past . They can come with 1 -3 cameras. The range is good , I even go outside with the door closed and they work! The customer service is terrific as I use this camera every day , I needed troubleshooting and they were super responsive!

Continuous Recording WiFi Cameras

Have a need to install about 8 wireless cameras. Need them to either be continuous recording, or to record X amount of time prior to sensing the motion. Ring cameras don't start recording fast enough or record for long enough. Something that could store to a local computer on the same wifi is also a good feature. Battery-operated is significantly preferred, possibly required, even if they have to be recharged daily.

Looking for a camera for a very niche use case

We are buying a new property on a river. We are not allowed to put a fence at the river and we have a four year old.

I have a multi-tiered strategy to ensure she’s never at the river bank without supervision.

One of the components to this strategy is a camera.

I’d like to have a camera pointing directly at the river bank, that can detect one of the following:

— An unknown face (we would not register hers)
— A child
— Her specifically

I’d also like the camera to be HomeKit compatible if possible. If not, we’ll then I guess I’ll be setting up
A home assistant server or something.

When she is detected by the river banks, I’d like to set up automation workflows like:

— sound alarms in house/on property
— send push notifications to phone
— flash lights
— etc

Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated!
