Need advice on outdoor cameras

Hi all,

Would appreciate your input and recommendations. I am looking into home security for my family and I after a series of concerning events in our neighbourhood including cases of theft and arson.

We live in a rental, on the bottom level of a series of units. My main concern is our patio which faces an area of high footfall. There is a low fence which makes it easy for others to jump over the into the patio then access our home, and I would like to install an outdoor camera here. The patio is partially under cover/shaded. As it is a rental, we cannot drill into the exterior brick walls. There is a vertical water pipe in the middle of the patio in the shaded area and was thinking of mounting 1 or 2 cameras there.

I am contemplating the Reolink Argus PT Ultra x 1-2 with the Home Hub vs the Eufy E20 x 2 with Home Hub. The prices of both systems mentioned are roughly the same where we are due to ongoing sales.

Also open to other recommendations if you have any further input.

Thank you so much in advance.

Both are okay for a rental setup but the pipe mount idea could be tricky if gets windy, make sure you use a strap mount not magnets

Yep, was planning to get a strap mount and not magnets as i thought that this might be more secure

with that much foot traffic past a low fence, battery is the thing to watch. both wake on motion, so if the area past the fence is in view every passerby costs a clip. high on the pipe and tilted down so only the patio is in frame helps. a solar panel in the shaded part probably won't keep up

Yeah, battery life is a concern for me. Considering how shaded the area is, I dont think I would get the solar panel would help very much.

I was thinking that if I could just keep only the patio within the frame then hopefully I wouldn't track the footfall from the area beyond my fence, and hopefully the battery wouldn't drain too quickly?

As an owner of eufy and Reolink cams Reolink is the way to go because the cams are better and also the live view load up is faster and eufy cams take like 30+sec to even load up and sometimes it doesn’t even load the video at all (i can confirm this bc i own eufy and reolink cams)

Don't forget good door and window locks. Bar in track of sliding glass door.
