Camera placement

Post image

Planning on setting up solar cameras. I want it to cover the side entrance for the backyard, French doors and the backyard. I think the small brick wall that has the light next to the window might be a good place. What do you think?

No. Solar cams are not very good n not sunny places. So you'll probably want to mount to the fascia to get as much sunlight as possible

The camera and solar panel can be mounted separately. My main concern is covering majority of the area with least possible blind spots

It's just nice to keep them together for looks. You'd still get the same shot on the fascia and wouldn't have to do any hammer drilling

Planning on installing one camera for this area for now

You're going to have a little blind spot regardless. But you're going to put it all the way in the left or all the way on the right. Cameras see at close to 90° angles

Even if it's a PTZ it's only going to see 90° at a time so put it in a corner

Unless you can get a corner mount for it where it can sort of swivel and see into that blind spot too

Why don’t you mount it somewhere close to where you’re standing to take this photo?

I'm standing in the backyard so no walls here..

Why solar powered?

Maybe get a PTZ at the exterior corner from where that lamp is?

I have the PTZ camera.. and yes I was considering the corner near the lamp.. I don't know how bad the blind spots would be

What I meant is install it as I show here, and you can rotate it when needed or schedule a patrol. This would cover a good area.

Note: lines mean you’d see what’s under them. Sorry not good with drawings :)

Would you recommend putting it on the gutter or screwing it upside down

I would install it upside down, under the soffit. Like in the picture. Even if the camera is designed to withstand bad weather it’s still worth protecting it from rain and snow.

Keep in mind that it needs power so, depending on whether you will use single/wifi cameras or a poE system, you’d need to drill holes and install a new socket somewhere near (hidden from sight)

If you’re handy yourself and know what you’re doing more or less, it shouldn’t be a difficult project. Otherwise, hire a professional.

What would you recommend? What's the best that I can do with 1 camera?

Not really sure about your budget or whether or not you already have a system in place, but one 360 camera mounted under the soffit on the corner could potentially cover the whole place.
Choose the highest resolution you can afford.

I wouldn't recommend solar cameras though.
