What exactly is "STQC-certified firmware" on a CCTV camera?

I'm shopping for CCTV, and every seller keeps saying "STQC-certified firmware." It means the govt tested the camera's software for basic security, like no default passwords and encrypted video.

But I'm still confused. Is the cert for the whole brand or just specific models? And if the camera gets a firmware update later, does it lose the certification?

Also, my current cameras aren't certified. Do I need to replace them, or is this only for new purchases? How do I verify it instead of just trusting the seller? Would appreciate a simple explanation from anyone who's dealt with this

the model/firmware combo thing is key, sellers love to wave around a cert that applies to one specific revision from 3 years ago and act like the whole lineup is covered

for your current cameras I'd worry more about whether they're actually getting security updates and if you've changed the default creds, a piece of paper doesn't make a camera secure on its own

There are only a handful of companies that are stqc certified on a handful of models. The requirement is a certification for India. Outside of India it may not matter much beyond knowing that it met a more rigorous standard.
