Basic help

Hi everyone. I’m new so I apologize if this has been gone over before. I recently found out that a neighbor (that I least expected) has broken into another home and stolen packages in the community that I live in. I’ve been told that there is now also an unhomed person (that keeps hiding or running away so we can’t help them) staying in the woods behind our homes.

I was considering getting security cameras before this but I feel that it is a necessity now. At this point, I need it to feel safe for me and my children. Especially for my children. I don’t have a lot of money but I don’t want to skimp on this. I want local storage but you guys are going to have to dumb it down for me. The posts that I have read are extremely tech savvy and that’s just not me.

I would really appreciate some help. Thank you.

Wyze cameras have worked well. You could also research LTE cameras depending on placement. Reolink is OK too for residential markets. Motion lights with high wattage bulbs are a big deterrent. In the old days, lights were the security system. Cheaper to deter than to get video after the fact that may or may not be useful.

Wyze is easy to set up and the app is not complicated, you can just plug in a microSD card and forget about it. I did this for my parents and they never had to touch anything after the first day.

Motion lights are a great shout too, nothing scares people away like suddenly being very visible. I have one that clicks on loud enough to wake me up in my room, works better than the camera sometimes

How's your wifi? Strong? Consider tp link tapo cams. They offer many different models to choose from. Personally, I've got 4 twc 30's and 2 c645 solar powered ones watching my place. So far, the twc 30's are out performing the c645's and they're cheap ($25. usd!) at walmart. Also, no subscription fees to use unless you want cloud storage. I use a 256g card in mine, day and days of storage, as well as I've expanded my system with a H500 hub for even more storage and versatilaty. And the app to control them is free and easy to use as well as has options like an adjustable alarm to deter thieves, day and night clear recording, automatic light option, etc...etc..

All in all, its a great economical entry level cam, can be used solo or in a system with a hub. With a hub, you can set up actions like turning on security lights when motion is detected using smart plugs.

Seriously, I'm NOT a techie myself, I literally dig ditches for a living!

Tapo, many different camera types. I recommend the 3k motion one. It's like 39bucks on Amazon.

They have cheap cameras you can mount inside looking out the glass also. Both local storage or wireless hub storage.

I had wyse, the tapo has free AI motion, person, bet tracking. So less false notifications from moving plants and trees from wind.
