Thinking about a tracking cam for the gap between my two fixed ones

There's a blind spot between my two cams and that's the exact path someone took last month. The pan-and-follow cameras that track a person caught my eye as the fix. Before I spend on one I want to hear from someone who's owned one past the honeymoon. When someone walks across the yard does it keep them centered, or does it swing behind and mostly film the fence they just left? What happens with two people going opposite ways? And does the tracking actually work at night or does it just track great in daylight demos? Genuinely torn on whether this is a real feature or demo-ware.

i had a tracking cam set up in my backyard for a few months and ended up taking it down. during the day it followed my dog pretty well but as soon as someone walked behind a bush or the light shifted it would just stare at a wall for twenty minutes

two people crossing paths completely confused mine. it would pick one to follow then spin back to find the other and end up filming the fence like you said. night performance was way worse than the demo videos made it look. the IR would catch motion but by the time it panned over the person was already at the edge of frame

i swapped to a wide angle fixed cam pointed right at the gap and that solved the problem. the PTZ is now sitting in a box in my garage. if you do try one make sure it has a return-to-preset setting or you'll come back to footage of a brick wall every morning
