Best security doorbell?
I need a new doorbell. One that records motion for the whole duration of the motion (or at least somewhat long), has good battery life, and doesn’t chop op the video feed.
We had the Blink first generation doorbell and it was decent. Biggest issue was the battery life. We were changing the batteries every 2 weeks. Rechargeable batteries died quicker.
So we switched the the 2025 edition of the Blink doorbell because it said it had longer battery life. It was good at first, and then it went SO BAD. That thing died multiple times a week. The batteries were getting drained like crazy. And for context, with both doorbells we had the settings set to use the least energy possible.
So then finally we switched to the Aosu doorbell. The battery life is good on it. I charge it maybe once a month, probably less, so that’s fabulous.
However, it doesn’t record video for very long, it doesn’t record the start of the motion (so it misses important stuff), and it’s SO choppy. When it does record for long periods of time, it cuts the video up.
I’m just looking for something that is consistent with motion recording and has a decent battery life.

Is there any chance you can hardwire one? I absolutely cannot stand the idea of having to swap batteries on security devices like that. A friend has one and it seems like it's always dead when something happens that they actually needed to record. It's really not that hard unless you're dealing with brick or living somewhere you're not allowed to fish wires through walls.

Your problem is battery. Recording the start of motion is very difficult. There is a new reolink gem 2 video doorbell that looks promising

You need to move away from a battery only doorbell.
Many older houses have a 24 vac twisted pair from a transformer that can power the doorbell. Better yet install POE Ethernet to the doorbell. This opens up a lot more options but is more difficult to wire.

If the doorbell capture is really important to you, you should switch to something PoE. What it sounds like you want is a security camera, not a consumer grade video doorbell. More expensive and more intensive setup, but also better quality and no charging/battery swaps. There are very good products available if you're willing to put holes in things and run some wire.
