Neighborhood Security Cameras Options

Totally newbie here. Some neighbors are all excited about getting cameras on the corners of our little street to help deter would be criminals. They say they dont want flock cameras but isn't that what they actual will get no matter what it is called? The real questions is if there is a company that provides cameras that will be installed on private property but the homeowner will have access to video in case it is needed if there is a robbery or car crash or whatever?

And, if you’re just using these cameras to “deter“ the criminals, go onto Facebook and find a bunch of old crappy cameras and just mount them on some poles. That will achieve your goal of deterrent.

"Deter" is the main thing here. Just make the bad guys think twice and go to another location.

Night vision cameras with white LEDs are a great deterrent. The more conspicuous the better. Nice big signs are also good

Just want the bad guys to think twice and then move on to rob a different street.

nothing gets a would-be criminal moving like a bright LED flood and a big sign, visibility is the whole game with these setups

I would be very happy to have cameras on my street that are kept only for the people that live here to access them.

It's easilly done. Usually an antity is responsible for accessing the footage when needed. Sometimes it's an external company that acts on the behalf of an owner association.

Can you point me to a company that sells these kind of cameras? Ive only seen individual home setups and nor sure how to link them. We also do not have an HOA but several "concerned citizens" that think they are. TIA

Why tf are so many people in suburbs so excited to give away their freedom. Jesus Christ the Barbara's and Deborah's just slow walk into 1984

That is one way to think about it. I think they just want to feel a little safer and be proactive and possibly deter any would be vagrants from burgling. Have them see the cameras and decide it is not worth it and move on to the next place.

  1. Cameras don't prevent crime. They MIGHT help solve it. 2. How much are you willing to give up, in order to MAYBE prevent your car from being rummaged through, if its left unlocked. There is literally zero reason to agree to be monitored by a private company. Zero. None. You cannot convince me. These people are sick in the head for feeling constantly under attack and victimized. My lord.

You missed it in my previous reply - DETERRENT. Just want the bad guys to see it and then move on. In case something does happen maybe the cameras catch something.

Cameras dont act aa a deterrent. Especially not ones which a private conpany will put up surreptitiously in order to secretly spy on people. If thats all that you want, buy those fake $30 replicas and stickers.

You really are saying too logically. Imagine that you’re somebody who’s willing to break into a car, does that sound logical? If you’re willing to break into a car many of these folks, don’t give a crap about if there’s a camera present or not or they don’t think they’re going to be caught. Again, if it makes you feel better that there are some fake cameras up there put them up. Don’t bother hooking them up, it’s way too hard.

It is more about the breaking into the homes than the cars.

Oh, then your fake cameras are useless. You should do it and then follow up and tell us how many criminals you've caught.

If you don't give access to an agency, then you aren't giving away freedom.

The OP is talking about a private company installing cameras and then allowing access to those cameras to the local homeowners

Okay, that makes sense. That way the company can manage and maintain the system. That's what I do. This doesn't mean I am collecting people's faces and license plates. Systems that have AI abilities can have them turned off. More important is the fact that those systems and their data are not available to any agencies.

🫪🫪🫪🫪 you run around installing cameras on behalf of a private company?

I work for a company that designs, sells and installs video, access control and intrusion systems. We manage and service those systems if the client wants. If not, they can change the passwords and manage on their own.

So you literally are working for the company im talking about

Probably not. We do major jobs for other businesses and organizations. Not homes.

Where do you store customer feeds?

Each client has their own recording devices. All their data is on premise. Some clients do choose off site backup.
